#What To Buy At The Sephora VIB Sale

by Cristina April 21, 2018
written by Cristina

04/21 – Hey guys! I’m reposting this Sephora VIB Sale post from last week while in Dallas. Sorry for being MIA!  I haven’t blogged since Tuesday, I had no idea the conference was going to be as intensive as it has been. I’ll post all about my time in Dallas when I get back. In the meantime, I wanted to let you guys know that the Sephora VIB Rouge sale is now open to VIB and Beauty Inside level. If you have a Sephora card, you can now access the sale HERE. I’ve made two purchases so far – I got the Makeup Forever Aqua Lip Liner in 3C and 14C. I love both but 3C is the prettiest nude that matches my lip color while 14C is a pretty rose color that matches all my nude/rose lipsticks. So far I’m really loving the formulation of this lipliner and it’s stayed on all day for me during this conference. Highly recommend!

Sephora VIB Sale

Here are my notes for you on What To Buy At The Sephora VIB Sale which starts this week. Here you get the details on the sale dates and codes, and my shopping notes that include some of the past purchases that I use daily, some items on my wishlist, possibly some things that will graduate to my shopping cart, and things that will magically appear in my mailbox. One of those items is the Foreo Issa which I reviewed recently.

Are you shopping the Sephora VIB Sale? It’s so annoying that all these great sales happen in the same week. First the Shopbop Sale, now this. I’ve prioritized a spring clothing refresh with the Shopbop sale (light wash jeans) but I will probably get a few items from this sale – probably stock up on my tried and trues vs. venturing out and trying new things. I’d love to know what’s currently sitting in your shopping basket so let us know what your ride or die Sephora items are in the comments.

The Lululemon Upload is live!
Last weeks post – What To Buy: Shopbop Sale, Weekend Report: Sephora, Lululemon Fit Review, Store Photos, Sephora VIB Sale (I’ve purchased a second lip liner in 3C), last weeks Lululemon Upload.

Nothing for me this week, although I’m really eying the dragonfly Sculpt Tank. I’m traveling to a blogger conference this week in Dallas, Texas, so if you are interested in Dallas travel, behind the scenes blogger stuff, or fashion bits, check out my upcoming posts throughout the week. This is my first boondoggle to a blogger conference so I’m super excited. I always felt like I missed out on the exciting travel portion of the Seawheeze Half Marathon which a ton of you come to Vancouver for yearly,  so this definitely makes up for it for me. I get to mingle with an amazing community of bloggers, I get to learn from the best, and I get to travel to and explore an amazing city. I’m really excited to possibly meet Amy Song of Song of Style, and of course a local celebrity, Jillian Harris.

Let me know if you’ve been to Dallas before or if you live there, and if there is any specific thing you think I should check out. My exploring time will be very limited but I’m committed to making the most of any free time I have.

The Weekend: Sephora VIB Sale Haul, Lululemon Fit Review, Lululemon Store Photos

by Cristina April 14, 2018
written by Cristina

Because I have a bunch of odds and ends that don’t quite make up an entire post, I decided to throw them into a new feature I’m naming ‘The Weekend Report’. Here I’ll add more chatty information for you and tips and information that I may not otherwise get around to posting, or if I do it usually goes to my The Sweat Edit Facebook Group  (lots of info gets shared in that group), or Instagram (the_sweat_edit)  Hope you like the hodgepodge post.

  1. Sephora VIB Sale Haul

I didn’t spend very much this year at the Sephora VIB Sale (yet, but probably won’t spend much more). I forgot that I have been wanting to try the Makeup Forever Aqua Waterproof Lip Liner so I picked that one up in 14C. It’s a really pretty rosewood color. It’s my birthday month so I also got the Bite Beauty birthday gift, and I used up points for the really great points rewards they have this month. When I see rewards of items I already love I like to get multiples and use the minis for travel. I was really excited to see that one of my Sephora VIB Sale recommendations, the Living Proof styling product was available so I got three of those. I also really like the Clinique Take The Day Off Balm so I opted to try the liquid version. Pretty big haul for spending just $20! Ha!

3. Lululemon Fit Review – Time Out Crew

I tried on the Time Out Crew and really loved it. I was surprised to see it was Pima cotton and modal. If you click on ‘Fabric’ on the website it tells you it’s 4-way stretch, but not that it’s Pima and Modal which is a huge selling point. It’s incredibly soft and comfortable to wear. This is a very relaxed fitting sweater and even my TTS 10 was loose around the chest area and arms, and around the midsection. I tried on the size up initially because I worried about the cling factor on my midsection in my TTS, but sizing up made it way oversized and the TTS was just right. In the photos below, the Deep Indigo/Hydrangea is my TTS 10, and the Bleached Coral/Medium Grey is a size up. I came home with this one in the Deep Indigo/Hydrangea.

What To Buy At The Shopbop Sale!

by Cristina April 11, 2018
written by Cristina

The shopbop sale is live! The promotion is good NOW through Saturday, April 14 –  use code EVENT18 at checkout! This has become one of my favorite sales to scope out because of all the amazing brands they carry. I’m surprised at how many Canadians shop this sale especially. I’m so late to the Shopbop bandwaggon having discovered it only last year, but I’m so glad I finally did.  There was a conversation at my gym the other day and one of my workout buddies was telling me that she frequently orders from Shopbop and that the shipping is really easy. It’s one of the few US online retailers that do free shipping and free returns to Canada. You can even upgrade to free 1-3 day shipping, but then return shipping costs $30. Not a bad deal though if you are certain you are keeping an item and you want it fast.  I purchased my P.E Nation tights at the Shopbop Sale last year and really love them.

Here are my favorite fashion-activewear items I’ve snitched out.

The Lululemon Upload

The Lululemon Upload is live!! Lots of posts this week! Check out: Athleisure Style Staples, Fit Review: Adidas SST Track Jacket, Levi’s Wedgie Fit Jeans, Move Lightly Pant Fit Review and Store Photos, Review: Rapid Lash, Guest Fit Review , lululemon Shoes Launching Tomorrow.

By the way, I’ve spent a few sleepless nights figuring out how to install push notifications for you (and me of course!). Did you get a push notification request when you came to my site today? It should be live for today’s upload post. Let me know in the comments. If you find these things annoying you can just decline it (it will pop up once each browser), or approve it and change the settings later if you decide you hate it. This will be invaluable to you if you want to stay on top of the Lululemon upload, or any other blog related breaking news. I love feedback (even when it hurts) so let me know what you think of this feature. I am a bit invested in its success because of the aforementioned sleepless nights (and dread of installing new codes) but I still want to know if this works for you.  You should only ever get a push notification for a new blog post going live, not like CNN ‘breaking news’ notifications.

What’s New At Lululemon

by Cristina April 10, 2018
written by Cristina

Thanks to reader Ms. K for showing us What’s New At Lululemon today, ahead of the upload.

I’m really liking this Time Out Hoodie. It looks like it’s the same material as the Time Out Crew. I tried the Time Out Crew yesterday and hopefully, I can post a fit review of it soon. It will probably be tomorrow though. The website gives no information about the fabric but if you are a fabric snob like me, it’s 68%Pima Cotton, 23% Tencil, 8% Lycra and 1% polyester. Despite that 1% polyester the material is really lovely.

Look at this! They are back to posting the cute little slogans inside shirts. I love this little detail. This one says ‘My Race, My Pace’. The colors are really pretty too!

I ended up returning the Just Pleat It SS which I reviewed here this past week. I really love it but the price was too much as many of you suggested so I’m going to stalk it for markdown. I will definitely get it on markdown because it’s really cute, the price is just too high for it.

Adidas Ultraboost Aero Blue Aero Blue/Noble Indigo

Last week I shared with you my athleisure staples wish list which included a few sneakers I was coveting for my birthday. I think I’ve narrowed my choice down to my ever favorite Adidas Ultraboosts although I’m still coveting those leopard print sneakers.  too. In that post, I showed you the Adidas x Parley which is very similar to these ones here. The Parley are a higher price point though and I think the colors are almost the same. The parley has a lot of contrasting white woven in the sock while these have pink contrasting the blue. Both are equally pretty and eye-catching. I love the Parley collaboration line from Adidas and I have this pair from last year but this year I opted for the regular Ultraboosts.

Adidas Ultraboost AERO BLUE/AERO BLUE/NOBLE INDIGO

AERO BLUE/AERO BLUE/NOBLE INDIGO

I take a size 9 in most of my shoes and it’s no different for Adidas Ultraboosts. I was a bit hesitant on these at first because my Ultraboost Parley’s from last year are a sock version which I find really flattering on the ankle and extremely comfortable. I was worried that these ones would come up higher on the ankle but actually, Adidas made this just as flattering and low profile as the sock version. I really love the scoop at the ankle. My Ultraboosts are the most comfortable sneaker I’ve ever worn, and the reason is of that odd nubbly sole. The soles have a really cool thermoplastic technology that you can read about here, but basically, it’s extremely cushy and shock absorbing. I also find the structureless sock design very comfortable. You don’t want shock absorbing or cushy for something like weight lifting, but for running or studio workouts these are perfect.

Guest Fit Review Speed Up Crop Tidal Speed Up Crop Tidal

SPEED UP CROP

I noticed two of the more recently released prints at the mall Lululemon so I stopped in to try them on.  They didn’t have these prints when I went earlier this week.  While I don’t particularly like the Speed Up Crop style, I was drawn to the blues in this print.  Blue is my favorite color.  As you guys have noticed, I’ve lost a bit of weight so I no longer need to size up in the Speed Up Crop/Tight.  The difference between my TTS and size up is the fact that the waistband no longer creates a muffin top.  That’s the reason why I would size up in this style of tight.  It is still very compressive!  This print is backed on white.  I did not notice any fading in a bend test.  I forgot to do a deep knee bend to see if there was any fading.  I was pleasantly surprised that I liked this print.  This print comes in the Train Times Tight (my favorite), which I will purchase.  The Speed Up Crop is now TTS for me.  But for those of you in between sizes, I’d recommend sizing up.

Guest Fit Review Fast & Free Crop Pixel Fast & Free Crop Pixel

FAST & FREE CROP II

As you know, the F&Fs are one of my favorite styles of tight.  When this print uploaded, I was drawn to the different shades of green.  The print is definitely more vibrant in Nulux than in the Swift Ultra fabric (Choose a Side Short).  I believe this print is also backed on white (or a very light lime green).  Sorry, I can’t remember.  Nevertheless, I did not notice any fading.  I did notice a bit of fading in the size down when I did the bend test but not across my hips while standing.  The pictures are of me in my TTS and if I were to get them, I’d get my TTS.  Although I liked this print online, I didn’t like it as much in person.  But I did like it in the short.  I think this might be a print I’d like in a tank.

Choose a Side Short in Pixel Haze Multi Black

CHOOSE A SIDE SHORT

The Choose a Side Short is a new style of short that is reversible.  It is made from Swift Ultra Light with a 3″ inseam.  These shorts were very lightweight and felt like I hardly had anything on.  It would probably be great for long runs.  Because it’s reversible, there is no lining.  The waistband was comfy and adjustable.  The side slits were not too high.  These shorts were a roomy TTS for me.  Generally, I size up in shorts but I haven’t tried any shorts in my TTS since I lost weight.  These are my first pair and probably not a pair of shorts that would be a good judge of what my actual size should be.  I’m thinking in the Speed Up Short or Hotty Hot Short, I’d still want to size up.  I may consider getting a short in this style rather than in the Tracker Short.  But I’m going to have to do a side by side comparison to really know.  These are definitely shorts I would love to lounge around in.  I think a lot of you ladies might really like the Choose a Side Short.  If you’re considering them, you should definitely try them on.   Sorry I didn’t take a picture of the other side.

Wake Up & Go Sweater Wake Up & Go Sweater Wake Up & Go Sweater

WAKE UP AND GO SWEATER

I wanted to try this sweater because it was made from Cashlu (Lululemon’s version of washable cashmere) and the fact that it was a zip up sweater.  The fabric was very soft and the knit didn’t seem like it was so delicate that I’d fear snagging it everywhere.  What I’m not sure about is if the softness will fade after washing.  Does anyone have experience with this fabric?  My pictures make the color Starlight look more grayish lavender than it is in person.  It is a pale blue and a very beautiful subtle blue color.  This sweater is definitely a roomy TTS and I suspect many of you will size down.  I should have grabbed the size down but I was too lazy.  I would probably have walked away with this sweater but the price tag stopped me.  I think it is a bit much at $128 USD plus tax.  If it goes on markdown, I will consider it.

Play Off The Pleats LS Play Off The Pleats Long Sleeve

PLAY OFF THE PLEATS LONG SLEEVE

I wanted to try one of the pleated items and this was the only new thing I could find.  I did find the Play Off the Pleats Tights but those were already on markdown.  The store didn’t have the Can You Feel the Pleat Pant (Lululemon’s take on the paper bag pant style).  On the hanger, I thought the LS looked very plain from the front and I wasn’t sure how much it would bag out because of the pleats in the back.  This LS is TTS but the sleeves felt a bit snug.  But because the fabric is the same lightweight UV fabric as the Water Bound Hoodie, it felt comfortable and there was enough give in it that it didn’t feel too restricting.  Otherwise, the LS is a roomy TTS.  When I tried it on, I thought the front looked too plain and it didn’t hang on me as nicely as I thought it might.  Lengthwise from the front it was just right.  I thought the LS was much cuter from the back.  But the back of the shirt is shorter than the front.  Because of its shape, it would be very forgiving for most of us.  I also think there’s enough space in the chest for larger busted ladies.  It wasn’t bad but it’s not something I’d spend $88 USD on.  The part I liked most was the color; especially, in this fabric..

Sweat Time Short Sleeve Sweat Time Short Sleeve

SWEAT TIME SHORT SLEEVE

I wasn’t sure if I’d like where the sleeves would hit my shoulders in this shirt.  Shirts with an “in between” cap sleeve doesn’t usually work for me because I have broad shoulders and it hits in the wrong place.  But this shirt surprised me and I thought it was flattering and feminine because of the gathering at the shoulders.  I also really loved this color.  It is definitely more orange than red.  The fabric was very lightweight and breezy.  This shirt is a roomy TTS that hangs well and is just long enough that I think it would work for both tall and short women.  My only hesitation is the price tag of $68 USD for a shirt that I wouldn’t work out in.  I think I’d rather spend that money on other types of street/casual wear.  But if it goes on markdown, I’ll be all over it!

Move Lightly Pant Move Lightly Pant Move Lightly Pant

MOVE LIGHTLY PANT

I wanted to try the tencil items because Cristina and so many of you love the fabric so much.  I agree with all of you; it’s a very soft and lightweight fabric that has a silk look to it.  Although Cristina already did a fit review on the Move Lightly Pant, I wanted to see how it would look on my body type.  I don’t think the side pockets worked on me either.  Like Cristina mentioned, if the pockets were a bit higher and didn’t bag out, this would be a nice casual pant.  I tucked my shirt in so you could see the waistband.  I thought this pant was a roomy, relaxed fit TTS for me.  I would have loved this pant if it didn’t have the cargo pockets.

Move Tightly Short Move Tightly Short Move Tightly Short Move Tightly Short

MOVE LIGHTLY SHORT

I also tried on the Move Lightly Short.  I think the short was overwhelming on me because of the relaxed fit and length.  I’m wearing my TTS and didn’t think to try a size down.  It did nothing for my figure.  Ordinarily, I probably would wear it with a form fitting tank that was tucked in but I didn’t have one of those tanks in the dressing room.  I tucked my shirt in so that you can see that the waistband was the same as the pant.  When my shirt was untucked, it just looked sloppy on me.  I thought it looked like pajama shorts on me.  I tend to think sportier or more structured shorts work better for my body type.  This style short doesn’t work for me at all but I think it would work for many of you curvier ladies.  The fabric drapes well and feels nice against your skin.

RapidLash and Rapid BrowReview

by Cristina April 7, 2018
written by Cristina

This post is in partnership with RapidLash who very kindly sent me both of these products to test out a few months ago in exchange for an honest review. I’m so glad I accepted their offer because had I seen this product in the store, I would have been very curious to try it out given my lash issues from PCOS, but I would have talked myself out of purchasing it expecting it to be a gimmick. I think I always put the lash enhancement category of beauty products in the same spot as cellulite creams and boob enhancing products. Things we all wish would work but aren’t worth the money or hype.  I’m really glad to share that this product worked really well for me. Turns out the ingredients are polypeptides which protect against breakage and vitamins and moisturizers which help strengthen. Breakage is the issue I was having with my lashes, so that is why this product worked so well for me. This product won’t give you the effect of lash extensions or cartoon eyelashes, but if you are like me and have had a declining lash volume or a change in lash texture due to hormones or illness, this is a safe and effective option worth considering.

Rapid LashRapid Lash and Rapid Brow

Rapid Lash, Rapid Brow

Check out the different brushes on each product. The brow has a spoolie brush and the lash brush has a detail brush.

You’ve probably seen me mention a few times that I have PCOS and rosacea. Becuase of PCOS, I’ve been steadily losing lash volume over the past few years. It seems that after having my kids, my lashes went really light and fluffy and stick straight after years of enjoying long dark lashes. I remember noticing my lashes a few months after having my youngest, and thinking they were such an odd light color. The weird lash texture lasted a few years and then they started falling out really easily whenever I wore mascara or rubbed makeup off with makeup remover, or just rubbed my eyes.  I first noticed hair falling out around my hairline, and then I noticed the outer edges of my eyebrows were also getting lighter and thinner. I have Rosacea which affects my eyes occasionally and when I had a particularly bad episode on my skin, I lost a section of lashes right in the center bottom, and they never grew back. My lashes didn’t look terrible, but to me, it was a huge difference from what they where pre-kids, pre PCOS and pre-rosacea. I was so self-conscious about it that I considered getting lash extensions. I have friends that do lash extensions regularly and they look amazing but there are some horror stories out there and because my lash line seems to be really sensitive, I was too scared to try it.

I started using the RapidLash for the prescribed 6 weeks with the expectation that it would be total rubbish, and that I’d get bored of using it after a few days of not seeing results and then give up. A few days in, my lashes were getting darker and thicker. This was enough to keep me going with my nightly bedtime routine. The brows took a bit longer to see any difference but because I was seeing subtle changes with my lashes and it’s all part of the same routine I kept at it. I didn’t see any new growth in my eyelash gap until about four weeks in, but even before that new growth came in my friend noticed my eyelashes looked longer and darker. At the end of six weeks, the gap is now fully grown in. My eyebrow didn’t grow a lot thicker but they grew a lot faster to the point that I’ve had to trim them a few times between eyebrow threading. One odd thing is that in certain areas where my eyelashes grew especially long, I had weird bends and crimps in some lashes. I also now have an unruly eyebrow hair that I have to tame with gel.

I am now running low on the eyelash serum and I definitely plan on purchasing. I will get it at either Costco or Shoppers Drug Mart. I think it’s slightly cheapest at Costco but if you collect shoppers optimum points you can get 5x the points if you purchase between May 20 – 26.

By the way, it is so hard to get a good eyelash selfie. The angle has to be just right so you can properly see the length of the lashes. This is zero makeup so please forgive the haggard look.

Rapid Lash

My bottom lash right in the center on the right side of this picture is where I had a section of missing lashes about an inch long. You can sort of see the new lash there that is bent a bit, and then some shorter new lashes next to it.

Rapid Lash

You can see the bent lashes a bit better here on the right.

* For Canadian shoppers, RapidLash and RapidBrow is available at Shoppers Drug Mart. If you purchase between May 20 -May 26 you get will receive 5x the loyalty points

You can buy RapidLash and RapidBrow several locations in both US and Canada. In Canada, I’ve seen it at Shoppers Drug Mart, Bed Bath & Beyond and you can order it from Ulta. In the US you can find it at Ulta, Walgreens, CVS. Here is the store locator link.

Fit Review: Move Lightly Pant (With Store Photos)

Lululemon Move Lightly Pant Lululemon Move Lightly Pant Lululemon Move Lightly Pant Lululemon Move Lightly Pant

Move Lightly Pant

I ordered the Move Lightly Pant in two sizes anticipating that sizing up may be necessary. I love tencil because it’s so soft, silky and lightweight but it has no stretch at all so sizing up is typical unless it’s very relaxed fit. These are straight leg and high waisted so the fit issue for me in my TTS was in the upper thigh and hip area. Size up (the photos shown in this post) was perfect though and super comfortable. I’m so tempted to keep these but one problem I had with them is the cargo pocket really puffs out, and that is so unflattering on a pear shape. I love cargo pockets but they have to lay flat so that they don’t create bulk, and they need to be higher up on the leg for me.  Lululemon avoided the bunchy pocket issue elsewhere by removing the side pockets and the back pockets. I hope Lululemon makes a pocketless, relaxed fit cropped jogger in tencil because I’d be all over that.  Despite the fact that these didn’t work for me, I still really recommend them as a try-on if you are in the market for a cute pair of summer crops to wear with a nice pair of sandals and a cute top. If they also don’t work for you, try these linen crops from Aritzia instead. I got the Errol Pant last year and really love them. It’s a nice quality linen that doesn’t wrinkle a ton and it’s just as nice and cool as the Move Lightly Pants.
