The Seawheeze 2017 Showcase Store Lowdown

by Cristina August 11, 2017
written by Cristina

So this year my seawheeze writeup is from the perspective of someone NOT running, that did NOT lineup overnight for the showcase store and just wandered in sometime around noon to see what product was left after all the runners had made their purchases, and to see what the lineup was like. If you’d like to see what product was available at the Seawheeze 2017 Showcase store, click the link to see the preview.

As I said, I wandered in to downtown at noon today with both of my kids and came in with low expectations of being able to find anything at all, or that my kids would be patient enough to wait in a line with me. I had been watching online the past few days and sadly the showcase store lineup started at 8am on Wednesday morning, a full 48 hours before it opened. The much hyped and anticipated reflective items where so limited that Lululemon only made 600 pieces of them, and had a 3 item limit per shopper. That is 200 items available (no guarantee of your sizing) for 10,000 runners, plus the public shoppers. Not surprisingly the items where gone in 25 minutes (mostly to aggressive resellers and angels) and even if you had waited in line since Wednesday morning you probably missed out.

I put the blame of that squarely on Lululemon. They knew these would be hot sellers, and they made them in seriously limited quantity. Had they made 5000 pieces of these, they still would have sold out. If they’d make this design for the general uploads, they would sell out. Lululemon has the ability and creativity to make these fun and exciting designs that we’ve all been begging for, but they withhold them in favour of the drab monochrome items we’ve been seeing all year.

As you can see in this first picture here, Lululemon had a display of the reflective items where people had to lineup to get their limit of three items. Lululemon also did not allow the hoarding of piles on the floor this year so you had to sort your items quickly and give back what you didn’t want. This was a great proactive move by Lululemon and I’m hearing that the volunteers and eds where so on top of redistributing clothing. There where still pile hoarders but Lululemon handled them as best they could. The overall shopping limit was 10 items per person, but resellers chose to spin that as 10 items per check-out.

Enough of that though. I would have been remise not to report everything I could about this event, including the negative,  but now I want to focus on the great stuff I found, because there was a lot. I was really curious to experience the showcase store as someone who would not have lined up, or had very specific shopping list items so I’m really glad I did it this way this year, and got to bring my girls with me.
I was really surprised that by the time I got to the store there was a 5 minute lineup to get in, and plenty of ‘good’ product available that you could at least find one treasured item. I found plenty, and I put stuff back at the now empty display which was being used as a trade in station. I first saw the Tofino Shell Gather Me Lightly Jacket in a size up for me, and it was the only one so I grabbed it. 20 minutes later I was able to swap it for my correct size. The black/white printed version of the jacket where plentiful and although it was not my first pick between the two, I ended up liking that one the best.

These are the items I ended up purchasing. I really shouldn’t have purchased two jackets, but I couldn’t choose in store and thought I’d decide at home. I really like them both though so I think I’m going to keep them. The Swiftly was also a maybe since it’s sort of plain, but I LOVE the color on. Such a pretty sky blue.

The wildcard for me in this pile are the Speed Tights. I didn’t love this print at first but most of the eds working were wearing these and they where so pretty on, very flattering and nicely contrasted.  I decided to stalk around for them and it took some work of loitering by the fitting rooms before I found my size. I didn’t try them on until I got home and when I did I fell absolutely in love with them. These are my favourite purchase.

After this my kids where done with the showcase store so I quickly checked out (5 minute lineup) and headed outside. This was my kids favourite part! They loved the entertainment, especially the racoons on stilts. They also where given bubble wands by an awesome Ed, and my kids blew bubbles for as long as they wanted. Then we wandered the stands and the kids got to pick out some fruit and check out more of the fun entertainers. We where at the showcase area for an hour and a half tops, start to finish and I’m really happy with the hole experience. I’d definitely like to run next year as I’ve done most of the previous years but this just wasn’t a good year for me to sign up. We are in the middle of real estate stuff which has taken up our entire summer and I know I would not have been able to spend this entire weekend enjoying seawheeze festivities. It was great being able to take an afternoon away though and distract myself a bit.

If you are running tomorrow, have a fantastic run!! Soak up every second of it because it is a truly amazing experience. Start hydrating tonight, especially if you where in that crazy lineup. Hydrate with electrolites, eat well, rest!

Guest Fit Review: Athleta Blossom Intuition 7/8 Tight, Shadow Camo Relay 2.0 Capri, Tropical Precision 7/8 Ankle Tight

by Cristina August 9, 2017
written by Cristina

Part 2 of Mrs. O’s Athleta fit review! Mrs. O did a ton of fit reviews this week and I’ve broken them up into various posts. Huge thank you to her!! I love her feedback on items and we’ve become great shopping buddies.

Blossom Intuition 7/8 Tight

This is a powervita tight.  I just noticed (while doing this fit review) that Athleta 7/8 tights fit like 7/8 tights on me.  I’m 5’6″ and have short legs compared to my torso.  And LLL’s 7/8 tights fit like full length tights unless I get them hemmed.  This is a nice surprise.  I also noticed unlike the pictures on the website, the tight I’m wearing doesn’t have any of the floral print on the back of the tight.  That’s odd.  It would have been nice to see the floral print from behind.  Otherwise it just looks like another mesh black tight from the back.  Maybe it was the pair I tried on.  I liked the fit of the waist band.  This is Athleta’s ultra high waist band but I didn’t think it was that high rise.  It fit just below my bellybutton.  Again, no roll down like some of the WUs I have.  But I also did not bend over or try to imitate workout moves.  I like the style of this tight but again my hesitation is the floral print.  I know a lot of you ladies will like the floral print, which is why I selected these to try on.  This tight is a no for me but if there is a similarly styled tight, I will try them on.  One thing I do have to comment on is that the mesh on the tights I tried on seemed a little delicate to me.  I was afraid to pull up the tight from the mesh to adjust the fit.  I don’t worry about LLL’s mesh on tights.

Shadow Camo Relay 2.0 Capri

Of all the tights I tried on, this one is the most likely one I will purchase.  I love camo prints.  This tight had two side leg pockets and one back zippered pocket.  It also had reflective details.  This tight is also made out of recycled polyester.  I didn’t feel as hot as the other tights of the same material because of the mesh ventilation behind the knees and it’s capri length.  There is a seam along the bottom of the pant leg.  I know some of you have commented that it is a bit tight around larger calves.  I’ve always believed I have large calves but I didn’t feel like the bottom cuff of the capri was tight at all.  The waist band was very comfortable and fell slightly below my belly button.  I will likely buy these tights and try them out for a workout.  I do love Athleta’s guarantee.  You can work out in their gear and if it doesn’t work for you, you can return it.  I’ve been able to do the same thing at LLL but I think it depends on your store (and I do go in often and spend way too much money).  But with Athleta, you know it won’t be a hit or miss thing depending on the store you go to.  That is a great guarantee and the fact that you can return sale items unless marked as final sale.  This tight is a buy for me and will allow me to get over my bias and give Athleta a chance.  LOL, I just wish I found a pair of tights in a pretty bright color!

Tropical Precision 7/8 Ankle Tight

This tight is a polyester/lycra mix.  It felt hot to me.  The mesh at the back of the leg helped with the hotness factor.  This is the one tight I really didn’t like.  First, the floral pattern placement in front and back was not flattering at all.  It didn’t do anything for my figure and I think it made me look ill proportioned.  The front pattern placement is livable but the back pattern and seam placement is awful.  From the back, it made my torso look long, and my butt short and wide.  It did not create a “lift” like LLL tights.  This tight from the back is the reason why I have been so hesitant to try Athleta tights.  I have many friends that swear by Athleta but many of the tights my friends wear are not flattering to their figure.  Their butts look like mine does in this tight.  It could just be they are purchasing the wrong tights.  I do too many squats and butt exercises to wear any tight that will not enhance my rear.  I also did not like the two different types of mesh in the back or the mesh placing.  What I liked about this tight was the color scheme.  If it was a different pattern (non-floral), different rear seam placement in the same color scheme, I know I would gravitate towards it.  This tight is a definite no for me.  LOL, I wanted it to work because of the price point.
Because so many of you love Athleta gear, I’m going to keep trying and find something I will like and wear often.  There were a couple of other modal pieces I really want to try on.  So, I’m going back to Athleta this weekend and will likely purchase the camo tight, unless I find something I like better.

The Lululemon Upload is live!

Nothing for me yet but I’m still considering the Round Trip Jacket in a size up. I was hoping we would see the Pink Cool Racerback (Candy Pink) that I shared in The Sweat Edit Group (thanks to Ms. B!), or the pink (Candy Pink?) swiftly Tech SS that we’ve seen previewed. The Down & Around Bomber is very interesting and I’d love to try it on in that cedar color. I would have probably ordered the Press Pause Jacket if it had uploaded in Pelt, but unfortunately the stores have only gotten olive and black.

Did you order anything or try anything on in store today?

Guest Fit Review: Athleta Threadlight Relaxed Tee, Mesh Shine Salutation Tight, Paradise Floral Chaturanga Tight

by Cristina August 8, 2017
written by Cristina

Mrs. O has provided some really great fit reviews for us on some of the Athleta pieces I was window shopping in a post last week. I’m so grateful because I’m not easily able to order Athleta items in Canada as it’s expensive to ship, so if I order something I have to be absolutely certain. I’m really hoping to get to the Athleta store in Seattle this summer but I don’t think it will be in the next week or two. Thank you Mrs. O for the fit reviews!! She has several more from Athleta so this is part 1, and I’ll have the part 2 post up a little later.

After seeing Cristina’s post about Athleta window shopping, I decided to go to Athleta before meeting my friends because I had time to kill.  To be honest, I want to disclose my bias against Athleta.  I’m not sure how helpful my fit review will be for you, other than showing you how some of the items look on a “normal” person that doesn’t have a model’s figure.  So, for those of you who love Athleta, my fit review is not a commentary on your opinions or styling and is in no way meant to dismiss your honest personal opinions about Athleta gear.  When I first tried Athleta (when they first entered the market), I absolutely hated the styles, fabric, sizing, etc.  Because so many of you rave about Athleta, I decided to give Athleta another chance and keep an open mind.  But I agree with many of you, they have really upped their game.  My fit review is coming from the perspective of self-professed Lululemon snob.  LOL.
The lighting in Athleta’s dressing room was very dim.  So, I apologize for the darkness of my photos.  When I used the flash, it made the picture worse.
I really love modal and have many, many non-athletic modal pieces.  I tend to wear modal pieces as athleisure wear rather than workout gear.  I just find that it gets in my way and isn’t technical enough.  It’s the same with some of LLL’s pieces, i.e., the Another Round Tee is an altheisure piece for me.  But I may consider trying a modal tank to workout in.
I am a size 4 in LLL tights and most tops, except tight tops (size 6) and shorts (size 6).  In Athleta, I was a size xs.  The sales clerk did not recommend I try on a size small because she said the fabric loosens up over time.  She said the size xs fit perfectly on me.
The Threadlight Relaxed Tee was very flattering, especially the color.  Athleta also offered it in black, heathered gray and silver gray.  It was very comfortable and I liked the length.  Quality-wise, I’m not sure it is comparable to my designer (non-athletic) modal pieces I wear.  But I didn’t do a direct comparison, which I intend to do sometime this weekend.  It is definitely higher quality than GAP’s modal pieces.  My only hesitation with this tee is the fact that I had “bat wings” under my arms when I lifted my arm.  Although I don’t have a picture of it, I liked the shirt when I adjusted the neck to side so it was close to being off my shoulder.  I am undecided on this piece because I have so many similar modal pieces which are higher quality.
The Mesh Shine Salutation Tight had a slight shimmer to it (the fabric next to the mesh).  I could not tell if it was sheer in the navy (which had a similar tint to jaded).  I felt it was a bit sheer, maybe 8.5-9/10, but I know so many of you have commented that powervita is completely opaque.  So, it may have just been the lighting.  I need to try it in natural sunlight.  I would describe powervita as a cross between nulu and luxtreme.  Soft like nulu (with a brushed feel) and compressive like luxtreme (but not as compressive).  I felt the mesh was a slightly delicate.  The shine from the fabric above the mesh seemed like the shininess you get if you’re wearing a LLL luxtreme tight that is too small for you.  (You can’t see it in my picture.  So, definitely check out Athleta’s site (Mesh Shine Salutation 7/8 Tight).  I wish they had the mauve color in my size.  I don’t think this is the right tight for me to really gauge my opinion on powervita.
So, the tee is a maybe and worth a second look.  The tight is a no for me.

High Rise Paradise Floral Chaturanga -Clear blue

First, my pictures don’t do any justice for the color of these tights.  It’s a beautiful sky blue with bright contrasting flowers.  This tight is made from recycled polyester.  It is similar to full-on luxtreme but it felt hotter to me.  This pattern is printed on a white background.  When you bend your knee or do the bend text, the pattern whites out a bit but I don’t think it was sheer.  It seemed fairly opaque to me.  I liked the pattern placement on the front of the tight but not so much on the back.  I think the left leg had too much pattern on it.  The pattern on the tights is not as even as the pattern placement on the model online.  I really loved the colors in this tight.  It was so refreshing against the dark colors we’ve been seeing everywhere.  I can tell many of you will like this tight.  I am not really a floral person although I love it on other people.  It was also a very comfortable fit.  I can’t remember if there are any waistband pockets in this tight.  The waist band was not too high so there was no rolling down factor (at least from my brief try on).  There are two reasons why I did not purchase these tights.  First, it felt too hot to me.  Today is a very hot and humid day so I know that was influencing my opinion.  Second, as much as I love the colors, I’m not sure I would wear these tights often enough to justify the purchase.  I think I’d wear them a few times and then they will go to the bottom of my list.  Sort of like my LLL kindred spirit multi black WUs.  If I really want to give Athleta a chance, I need to find a tight I will go to often.  This is not one of them.  But, I’m still undecided.  So, it’s a maybe and worth a second try on.  I’m definitely going to have to go through the stack to find a pattern placement I like.

Lululemon Hong Kong Sneak Peeks are up! I did a fit review of the Round Trip Jacket this past weekend. My recommendation was to size up in this jacket, and that was validated in the comments with some of you that have tried this jacket on and purchased it. My store only had pelt and olive but here is melanite and black.

This is an updated version of the Dance Studio Jacket and other similar iterations of swift jackets, but this one is made of Swift Ultra Fabric which is softer and has a different drape and it’s not reversible. I love the length of this jacket and some of the pleated detailing in the back, but for me the fit of this jacket was snug, not slim. Keep in mind though that I’m (temporarily) up 4lbs from my usual so I may well be properly a size 12 in jackets now and not a 10, but to me this fit like a Define Jacket and I always size up in Defines to a 12. Unfortunately I only grabbed size 10’s to try on so I wasn’t able to compare fits between the two sizes but I’m comfortable telling you to size up if you have a larger bust, wider shoulders or are curvy. This jacket is fitted so it will still look great sized up and it will feel more comfortable. As I said, I really love the length of this and the feminine details. I probably would have picked pelt, but I think I want to wait and see if this comes in Pow Pink or some other vibrant color.

Guest Fit Review: Speed Up Short

by Cristina August 4, 2017
written by Cristina

Huge thank you to Mrs. O for sharing her fit review of the Speed Up Short. I love being able to share with you guys a good variety of fit reviews and since this is a new short style replacing the speed shorts, I think it’s especially great having a variety of perspectives.

Speed Up Short Speed Up Short

Speed Up Short

After I saw the upload and saw the new Speed Up Short, I wanted to try them on.  The ed confirmed they will be phasing out the Speed Short by the end of the year and replacing it with the Speed Up Short.  I have a love/hate relationship with the Speed Short because of the waist band and liner.  It just depends on my mood and if I’m having a “fat” day.  When that happens, I wear my 8s.  If I feel fine, I wear my 6s.  I was curious to see what was different about the Speed Up Short.  The waist band is thinner (not the rise but the construction) because it is lined with mesh. It has a bit more give in it than the Speeds.  The pocket in the waist band is larger.  I think the back zipper pocket is the same length.  There was two big changes.  The leg seam for the liner was thinner!  Yay!  No more VPL.  The placement of the joining sides (front and back) made the short lay flatter in the back, i.e., it didn’t pucker as much along the back seam where the fabric is not joined together.  The “v” connection at the side of the short is a little higher than the Speeds.  The legs felt a bit tighter to me but I think they will stretch out after wearing.  Although the inseam is the same (2.5 inches) the Speed Up Short felt shorter because the back of the short is not longer like the Speeds.  (I tried taking a picture so you can see the back).  I thought I would like the pattern (culture clash multi black) but it seemed too busy for me.  Maybe if the pattern was on a smaller scale I would like it more.  I’m undecided on these shorts and will try them on again to see what I think of them.  For those of you who love Speeds, I recommend you stock up on them before the end of the year.  They are definitely going to be phased out this year.

Lululemon Pelt, and Culture Clash, Speed Up Shorts in Rose Quartz

by Cristina August 4, 2017
written by Cristina

Some great photos this week of Lululemon Pelt and Culture Clash prints. I ordered the Speed Up Crop in pelt and I’m torn because I really love the color, but something about the seam details on the back waist I’m not liking aesthetically. I need to try them on again this weekend and decide but I’m leaning towards keeping them because this color is amazing. The pictures here are very color accurate.

I’m hoping to have a beauty product post later this evening and some other fashiony posts and I have another Speed Up Short fit review from Mrs. O, so stay tuned! Lots of posts coming up for this weekend.

Athleta Window Shopping

by Cristina August 4, 2017
written by Cristina

The Athleta Fall 2017 catalogue came out the other day and I’ve been trying to convince my husband that we should drive down to Seattle for a day trip, with the hidden agenda of checking out the Athleta store at the University Village. I could always order some of these pieces and pick them up in the US, but I would much rather see and try all of these new pieces on in person. Athleta is just killing it lately with prints and colors, and the new Powervita fabric. I’m loving so many pieces lately and so wish I had access to a store.

I’m loving the Mesh Shine Salutation Crop which is that mauvey, almost millenial pink I’m crazy about lately, but am especially excited that it’s another Powervita item. I have one pair of powervita crops from Athleta and I adore them. They are on constant rotation. The Chaturanga Tights are incredibly beautiful in this print, I need to try them on though because a light color like that could be trouble for me. Another thing I’m loving at Athleta this season is that they have a new capsule called ‘restore’ and it’s full of items made out of my favourite fabric, Modal.

Have you guys tried any of these new fall pieces on yet? What do you think? Worth a drive to Seattle?
