Seawheeze Runners Brunch: Barefoot Bistro Vegan Overnight Oatmeal

by Cristina September 4, 2017
written by Cristina

I’m not vegan, but there are so many vegan recipes that I really love, so when the  Bearfoot Bistro Vegan Overnight Oats Seawheeze Runners Brunch recipe was shared on the Seawheeze group page (it’s so good!!!)  I decided to give it a try. As you know, I’ve started the IIFYM Diet on September 1st, so I’m meal planning a little bit and getting back into the groove of calculating recipes for macros. It’s also ‘back to school’ week so I wanted to get a head start on having a pre prepared breakfast on hand.  Since it took a fair bit of time for me to calculate the macros on this one I decided I would share those with you in case you were curious about the approximate nutrition data on this. Keep in mind it’s approximate, and based on the brands I chose (So Delicious Coconut Beverage, Silk Fermented Coconut Yogurt, Western Family Oats and bulk chia seeds).

You can easily figure out nutritional data for your recipes using the MyFitnessPal app recipe builder, by inputting each individual ingredient and then dividing the completed number by the grams of your completed recipe. I actually use the MyMacros+ app, and I just figure out the recipe data on paper. For this recipe as I made it (with precise measurements as shown below). **I substituted 28g of honey instead of 28g of Agave:

per 100 gram serving
157 Cals

2.3 g protein

15.2g carbs

3.7g fat

Recipe posted with permission from the very generous Bearfoot Bistro who also catered the Seawheeze Half Marathon Runners Breakfast. Thank you Bearfoot Bistro!!

So many of our guests at this year’s SeaWheeze half marathon have been asking the recipe of our now “famous” Vegan Overnight Oatmeal recipe… Here it is, but don’t tell anyone you got it here ?

Vegan Overnight Oatmeal

260 g cultured unsweetened coconut yogurt
90 g large flaked rolled oats
375 mL unsweetened coconut beverage
50 g white or black whole chia seeds
28 g Agave syrup

Combine all the ingredients together and mix well. Refrigerate for a minimum of 4 hours or overnight. Enjoy with fresh fruit and berries.

There you have it!

Guest Fit Review: Press Pause Pullover, Etch Hail Speed Up Crops, Noir Pant, Box It Out Jogger and More

by Cristina September 1, 2017
written by Cristina

Thanks to Mrs. O for doing such an awesome fit review today of all the pieces we’ve been wondering about from this past upload. I know a lot of you were wondering about the Press Pause Pullover and the Box It Out Jogger specifically, so this is great information for those of us who haven’t seen it in store yet. My store has neither of these two items.

The worst thing just happened by the way. I was just finishing up putting this post together which was about an hour and a half of work, and I was thinking to myself ‘I should probably save this’, and moments later my computer froze on me and then crashed. When my computer restarted, my blog post came back but it was completely empty. I said so many swears. Luckily the second time around it only took me 20 minutes because I already had all the photos saved and labeled. I’m not ready to replace my computer just yet so I’m going to have to get used to saving my work every 5 minutes.

Press Pause Pullover Press Pause Pullover

Wunder Under HR Press Pause Pullover

Press Pause Pullover + Wunder Under Hi Rise Tight Noveau Starlight

I wanted to check out the fit of the Press Pause Pullover.  Surprisingly, I sized down from my usual pullover size 6.  I tried on what I thought was my TTS but it was too baggy and bunched up in the arms.  Once I tried on a size down, it fit perfectly.  I really liked the slim fit in the torso but there was enough room around the shoulders to make it fairly easy to get off.  I find that LLL’s terry doesn’t have much give in the seams around the shoulder and armpit area like other.  The side seams along the torso is made from a stretchier fabric to give it a relaxed fit.  It was very cozy and warm.  The collar was just high enough to cover the entire neck but not too tall to get in the way.  It also scrunched down and stayed down.  It would probably fold over nicely.  I loved the length because it covered the bum and hit at the right spot on the lower hips.  As much as I liked it, this pullover is not a must have for me.  So, it’s going on my wishlist and I hope if and when it goes to WMTM, my size will be left.
As you know, I have a love hate relationship with floral prints.  I love it on everyone else but hate it on me.  Well, I think I finally found a floral print that I like on me.  I loved that the print was muted (unlike the black and white).  The pattern was printed on a light blue background.  It was fully opaque and TTS.  I liked that it came in a 1/2 tight; I tend to favor patterns in a crop tight.  I splurged and took it home with me.
Noir Pant Noir Pant Noir Pant

Noir Pant + Amalfi Swiftly Tech SS

I finally found a local store that got the Noir Pant and the Amalfi Blue Swiftly.  (As timing would have it, my order also got delivered today).  Cristina was right.  The Amalfi blue swiftly is so vibrant and the color is very saturated.  I couldn’t resist!  The teal green is equally as vibrant.  I’m a blue person so I got the blue.
I was really excited to try on the Noir Pant.  I’ve been hoping to find a dressier pant from LLL.  (Why do the men get dressier styles?)  It is such a nice lightweight pant made of swift fabric.  I tried on my TTS and a size up.  The size up was too big in the legs (especially since it’s already a wide legged pant).  The only thing about my TTS was the waistband.  There’s not as much elastic on the sides so it was a bit snug getting them over my hips because there’s not enough give in it.  But it also could have been because it was so hot and I was sticky.  Once on, the waistband fits perfectly.  As I expected, these pants will definitely have to be hemmed.  I think these pants would look better with a cropped top or a top tucked in because they are very high waisted.  I’m not sure if the high waist will flatten my bum out.  I didn’t inspect it enough to tell if it did.  I’m going to try on the ones I received and ask my hubby what he thinks.  I think I will definitely be keeping one pair.  The question is what color.  Most likely the black pair.

Speed Up Crop Etched Maxi Speed Up Crop Etch Maxi
Speed Up Crop Etch Hail Midnight Navy

I know Cristina already did a fit review on these crops but I wanted to check them out for myself.  Mainly because I like the pattern.  Also, many of you were commenting on the fit of the new Speed Up Crop/Tight so I thought I would give them a second try.  Like many of you described, the Speed Up Crop is a much tighter fit than the Speed Tight.  It was really hard for me to pull them up in my TTS.  When I finally got them up, it was still a bit snug in the waist.  I was told that the speed ups are not double paneled in the back because they are a run tight.  So, I was worried it might be a little sheer.  I felt that in my TTS, the pattern faded a bit.  Surprisingly, I found them to be a 9/10 in opaqueness.  The pattern is printed on a light blue background.  Because the waistband was bothering me, I tried on a size up.  It was still difficult getting them over my hips (just slightly easier).  Once I sized up, the waist was comfortable for me and didn’t dig in.  I also thought the pattern looked richer because there was no fading at all.  I did like the denim-y color of the crop.  But because I got the blue floral print, I left these behind.  I’m also unsure if I like the way the speed up crop fits.
Box It Out Jogger Box It Out Jogger

Box It Out Jogger

I really wanted to love these joggers.  Joggers in nulu are luxurious!  I hated the elastic waistband.  Although it didn’t dig in and laid flat on my waist, I could tell if I wore them for long periods of time (like I would want to) the waistband would start to cinch in (like all elastic waistbands do).  The length was perfect for me and the zippers at the ankles were a nice touch.  I can see how it would be functional for boxing workouts for ease of removal.  Generally, I size up in joggers because I like a looser, relaxed fit but these I could stay in my TTS.  If they would have stuck with a regular waistband with an infinity, internal drawstring, it would have been perfect.  I may consider them and deal with the elastic waistband issue if it is marked down drastically.  It may work better for the hourglass shaped ladies out there with the teeny tiny waists.  And if it does, I’m going to be envious!

Vivid Vision Wunder Under Hi-Rise Tight Vivid Vision Wunder Under Hi Rise Tight

Vivid Vision Wunder Under Hi Rise Tight + Vivid Vision Energy Bra

I decided to be brave and do a fit review with the matching set in the vivid vision print.  If I had rock hard abs like Ms. M, I wouldn’t even hesitate.  But I thought you would like to see how the set looked on a non-model figure.  I was undecided on the print.  I can’t decide if I love it or hate it.  When you examine the print closely, it looks like a forest with flowers.  What caught my attention was the vibrant hues of purple and lavender.  The online photos (and my pictures) doesn’t show the richness of the colors.  I was also worried that the pattern on the bottom of the pant wouldn’t work for me because WU tights are generally too long for me.  But they were perfect and did not scrunch at the bottom.  Both the bra and tight was TTS for me.  I tried the tight in a size down because nulux WUs slide down on me because of the waistband.  It’s the reason why I buy Fast & Frees instead. The pattern faded ever so slightly but the waistband was so much better.  The ed thought the pattern barely faded but it bothered me enough to stick to my TTS.  Although the pattern is printed on a white background, it was fully opaque in my TTS and size down.  Tags will stay on so that I can ruminate on the pattern.  Because it’s black on the bottom and black on the top of the bra, I think it makes my waist and hips look wider.  I know it’s just a trick of the eye and not real but who wants to look wider?!  I’m also debating whether I want to deal with a sliding tight.  Perhaps if I limit the types of workouts I do in them, it won’t bother me as much.
The Energy Bra had nice support with a bit less compression than the non-nulux versions.  I was surprised that the price point stayed the same.  I think the other nulux bras are priced a bit higher but I could be wrong.  The bra was TTS.
(On a side note, I saw the dark olive Fast & Free tights at the Beverly Hills location.  They didn’t have my size but the ed searched and found them in several stores in the US.  For those of you that can’t wait for the upload, call GEC and ask which stores have them in stock and do a phone order.)

The Chitty-Chat – Starting IIFYM Again

by Cristina September 1, 2017
written by Cristina

September 1st! It’s that time of year again. For everyone else, it probably means Pumpkin Spice Lattes, but for me, it means I need to get my health back in check and renew my commitment to being a regular at my gym. I’m starting IIFYM again! Why? Because real estate stress is no joke! We thought our little real estate endeavors would be done and wrapped up in June and it ended up taking over the entire summer. This means that life stress and the disruption of home buying and selling has challenged my eating habits, and interfered with my gym time, but also it’s interfered with my quality of life habits. When you are in survival mode (and I use that term very loosely because our stress is so minor and for positive reasons compared to what’s going on in the world this week) you prioritize survival and the first things to go are your quality of life habits. Gym time, preparing and eating food with intention, proper sleep, taking care of yourself, having fun. For some people that may mean unwelcome weight loss, and for others, it means weight gain. I’m definitely in the camp of ‘life stress = weight gain’. Our life disruption isn’t quite complete because we are moving at the end of the month (yay!), but at least we now know where we are going, and we can see the horizon, and the selling our house portion of the equation is over.

Because of all this stress going on over the past 3 months, and disruption to my entire routine, I’ve gained 10lbs. Ten.Pounds. I am so unhappy with how my body feels in clothing, and I feel so scared to get back to the gym because of how out of shape I’ve gotten.  My stress level and lack of proper nutrition have resulted in a horrible summer cold this week and I just feel overall miserable. It’s going to be so hard getting back to the gym and I’m so scared of regaining my cardio.  I’m starting today with my calorie counting, weighing and measuring food and macros and on Monday (hopefully) I can get back to my gym routine.

I was kicking around the idea of starting a whole 30 today, or doing the IIFYM diet (weighing and measuring, macro targets) and I opted to take it easy on myself and do the IIFYM. The whole 30 would have been perfect as a reset because clearly, I need it, but it’s also a level of stress that I can’t handle at the moment. I need to just get back in the habit of eating regular nutritious meals. It’s not that IIFYM is the easier option, but it’s the easiest to maintain during a month where my entire kitchen will be in disarray as we pack. I know both eating plans would work well for me as far as weight loss because really what it is is re establishing proper eating habits. I know how I got here, and I know what I need to do to get the weight off. I just actually have to do it and stop feeling sorry for myself.

I’ll keep you guys posted on how it’s going. Hopefully, I can do a weekly post or occasional check-ins. I always find talking about diets and weight loss so boring, but maybe there will be a little sub community of people here in the same boat as me and we can keep each other motivated.

Are any of you starting eating plans this month? Do you gain weight during periods of stress in your life? Tell me I’m not alone in this.

August Favourites

by Cristina August 30, 2017
written by Cristina

I think this is a pretty small and random ‘favorites’ post by most blogger/vlogger standards but these were the standouts for me this month that was worthy of sharing, and worth a chitty-chatty sort of a post.

I purchased my Barefoot Dreams cardigan(s) during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and hadn’t planned on de-tagging it until the fall, but we went away on a trip where I knew we would be in frigid air conditioning a lot of the time so I took the cardigan along with me. I have not stopped raving about this cardigan to all of my friends since I detagged it and I am absolutely obsessed with it. I love how soft it is, and how flattering the drape of the bamboo knit is, but I REALLY love the grey ombre tones. It’s washed like a dream and is even softer now. I know it’s not an elegant sophisticated outfit choice but if you are in need of a cozy cover up that is a step up from sweats, do yourselves a favor and go to Nordstrom and try one of these on. Barefoot Dreams Wrap + Align Tights is the most sublime combination of fabrics.

Barefoot Dreams CozyChic

Donna Karan Cashmere Mist Deodorant

The Donna Karan Cashmere Mist Deodorant is another item that was available at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, but I didn’t purchase it during the sale. Every year I read so many reviews of people purchasing the three pack during the NSALE and I have always wanted to try it. This year, like every year, it sold out right away so I was not able to purchase the deeply discounted 3-pack. Instead, I decided to purchase a single one at Sephora and give it a try for a month and then decide for next year if it’s worth purchasing. I hoped I would hate it because it is quite pricey. The perfume scent isn’t exactly a favourite of mine and I wouldn’t purchase the perfume, but I do like the scent in deodorant form and prefer the scent to conventional deodorants. I have a huge problem with skin sensitivity and get very rashy, razor burned armpits. I don’t like natural deodorants because they seem to make my skin issues worse, while the aluminium based seems to create a barrier for me the same way a diaper rash cream does. My two requirements for deodorant is that they are strong and long lasting and that they feel comfortable on my skin. This deodorant blew my other deodorants out of the water for both my requirements and my rashy razor burned skin has cleared up in the 3-4 weeks that I’ve been wearing it.  I’m certain that the reason it has cleared up is simply that it’s created a conditioning barrier. I’m very curious to see how long one stick lasts me vs. my usual (secret and mitchum), and if it lasts longer it may be worth buying this regularly.  I know many of you may not like this deodorant because it is not natural and it has more aluminium than some other conventional deodorants, but I really like it a lot. It’s expensive though so I will re purchase this during the Sephora sales, and I’ll stock up next year during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Apparently, the three pack lasts all year, so if that’s the case the price won’t be that offensive to me.

Vaseline Lip Tint Pink Bubbly

Do you guys stock up on lip balms the way I do? When I find a lip balm that I like, if it’s a cheap and cheerful price (the under $5 variety, not the $20+ variety) I like to buy a bunch and stash them in my handbag, car, nightstand, and if it’s not tinted and I’m feeling nice sometimes I give one to my husband. I really like rose scented lip balms and I didn’t realize this was a rose tinted one when I purchased it. I tried it on in my car and then ran back to purchase a few more because we can’t get these in Canada and I just loved the scent. I don’t find this lip balm especially healing but my lips have been dry from wind/sun and it creates a good barrier with a really nice scent and tint.

This seems like such a silly and basic recommendation but I really wanted to mention it because it’s made a huge difference to some of my favorite shoes. I haven’t purchased new shoes in a long time but I’d been meaning to resole some of my favorite ballet flats so I took the time to do it now while it’s flip-flop season. Good leather soles wear down pretty quickly and are also quite slippery on smooth surfaces so I’ve been avoiding wearing my favourite shoes so that I don’t wear them down too quickly. I found a really great cobbler nearby and he specializes in high-end shoe repair so I took in a few pairs of my nice shoes and had these topy soles put on. I was so worried that they would look obvious and ugly and change the look of the shoe but he shaped the soles so nicely so they fit with the shoe, and he even coordinated the topy soles to match the color of the soles already on the shoes. They are now really grippy and they don’t slip on certain surfaces and that’s actually made the shoes even more comfortable to wear and slightly more cushioned. I highly recommend resoling good shoes.

The Lululemon Upload is up!

This is now week four of Lululemon pulling old stock from last year into What’s New Rotation. The Brave The Cold Jacket and No Shivers Bomber, Wrap It Up Sweater, Vivid Vision Wunder Unders. If you missed out on these last year, now is your chance! I’m toying with getting the Mink Berry Wrap It Up Sweater because I love the color, and I love the quality of Lululemon Merino Wool. I just wish this Wrap It Up Sweater had the arm patches like the original version of the sweater from several years ago. I’m also toying with the Box It Out Joggers. Nulu joggers sound like a nice thinner version of my Ready To Rulu Joggers. Did you order anything today?

Sneak Peeks: Lululemon Australia Upload

by Cristina August 27, 2017
written by Cristina

The Lululemon Australia Upload is up! Lots of sneak peeks but for some reason the Japanese floral print I posted about yesterday did not upload. Some of you where asking if the blue based floral print was Melanite and I was hoping to find out with this Australian upload. I think the blue was not grey enough to be Melanite but it’s possible that it is. I’m really loving the Aero Blue Swiftlies, although I’m not sure which one I’d pick. Either the Short Sleeve or the Long Sleeve.

New In Store! Floral Print Speed Up Tight, Wunder Under and Textured Wunder Unders

by Cristina August 26, 2017
written by Cristina

Lots of new goodies coming for this Tuesdays upload! The Robson St. store which is the flagship store for Canada had an early product drop with some great new prints.

Loving this new Japanese floral print. I’m not sure what it’s called but the black/white colorway comes in the Speed Up Tights, and the blue version of the print comes in High Rise Wunder Under Crops. The Speed Up Tights felt pretty snug going up and because of this the print faded a bit, so definitely do not size down in these. They were opaque though in store lighting but I’d need to test that in natural light to be certain. I think I want to try a size up in them, or try another of my regular size in another store just in case these where miss labelled. The Wunder Under Crops felt perfect and stretchy.

These are the Speed Up Crops we’ve seen many sneak peeks of on the Lululemon Website. They were cute, but I favoured the floral prints.

I don’t typically like any of the jacquard prints but these new black/white denimy print was really nice, and incredibly soft and stretchy.

Guest Fit Review: Raise The Barre Tank

by Cristina August 25, 2017
written by Cristina

Thanks to Mrs. O for submitting a review of the Lululemon Raise The Barre Tank! It looks beautiful on her!

Raise The Barre Tank
Raise The Barre Tank Raise The Barre Tank

Raise The Barre Tank

This was one of the tanks that I wanted to try on because I’ve been really loving my Barre classes and I can see how this tank would be functional for me.  I liked the fact it had a built in bra with pretty straps and a very feminine back.  My TTS for tanks with built in bra is a 6.  Like many of you, I was concerned about the strap that went across the back of the neck.  I don’t like things pulling down on my neck or traps like some of the racer back bras.  Surprisingly, the strap did not bother me at all.  But then again, I didn’t work out in it or wear it for an extended period of time.  The only problem with the size 6 is the front of the tank is looser than I like.  But the size 4 didn’t fit so well in the chest area because of the bra.  The drape wasn’t as low on me as some of the online pictures.  I liked the length of the tank.  I’m trying to cut back on spending so this tank will go on my wish list.  If I happen to get some extra cash, I’ll get it and hopefully by then, it will be on markdown.  Definitely get your TTS bra size.

Fit Review: Zella ‘HATHA’ HIGH WAIST CROP LEGGINGS

Zella Hatha High Waist Crops Burgindy Stem Camo Pixel Print

I got to try on these new Zella Hatha High Waist Crops Burgundy Stem Camo Pixel Print the other day and was really impressed at how soft and breathable they are. They are so much like old luon, but what really impressed me is that it’s a print + old luon. It’s so unusual to see a soft, matte luon with a print on it that isn’t high polyester content. They are breathable and soft and I definitely can see myself wearing these for a workout, especially since they are 100% opaque for me.

Camo prints are right up my alley, and so is the ‘it’ color of the year, blush. This was a nice combination of the two for me. There where some great blush colored Zella leggings on sale during the Nordstorm Anniversary Sale but all over blush leggings are a bit scary for my curvy figure, and this camo is a nice safe alternative for me with the added bonus of camouflaging my flaws. I think the pricing for these Zella leggings are a steal and I would have purchased them but I think I prefer the blush space dye gradient ombre zella leggings (shown below) but my store didn’t have them in yet. If I can get my hands on those to try on I will do a fit review and let you know how they fair as far as opacity and feel. I’ll definitely be looking more at Zella for my plain black high waisted leggings since they fully meet the function I need for Crossfit, are nicely affordable and great quality and wash really well.
