Summer Beauty Essentials

by Cristina June 24, 2017
written by Cristina

I love checking out other peoples makeup bags so I thought I’d share with you what was in my makeup bag including my summer makeup essentials. When I travelled to Las Vegas this month, since that was the kick off for my ‘summer essentials’ makeup routine and my need for special beauty product considerations, I took some time to switch out my beauty products, streamline it and also take out products that I don’t use in the summer.

My #1 essential item is sunscreen of course, especially since I have rosacea which is seriously aggravated by hot weather and sun exposure.

Now that I’m 37 I’ve clung to my sunscreens and am as fanatical about not leaving the house without sunscreen as I am about not leaving the house without wearing pants.  My La Roche-Posay is great because it’s so thin and liquidy that it goes on quickly and easily and feels like I don’t have anything on.(Ulta currently has that sunscreen on for buy one get one 50% off). I’ve read that this particular sunscreen makes for a great makeup base and I agree. Another item I found really helpful while on a sunny vacation was my It Cosmetics CC cream because it really had great coverage without looking matte, and had the benefit of SPF 50. I really didn’t need concealer when I used the CC cream because it fully covered the redness on my right cheek from rosacea, so this was nice.  I love having high coverage but without a caked on makeup look, so the fewer products used to achieve full coverage the better.  The packaging of this CC cream is also very ideal for a travel bag since it comes in a tube with a pump at the end, and a lid. I highly recommend streamlining your products like this foundation + SPF combo when you travel. Another streamlined item I keep in my makeup bag is my Bite Beauty Multi Stick in Mascarpone and Papaya (love both of these colors and yes I need both on me at all times!). This multi stick works as a lipstick, blush and eyeshadow and it’s really very functional for all three. I love the matte stain I get on my lips with it though and that’s my main use for it but I like having an eyeshadow option in my bag just in case.  I also recommend using your Sephora points perks for those mini makeup pieces like my blush and my mascara – I save those for travel!

Two more items that travel with me and get constant use in my summer bag is the Deciem Sanskrit Saponins Cleanser and the Photography Fluid. This cleanser is really unique and something a lot of people struggle to get used to – it doesn’t smell pretty, it smells like coffee or bread. It stings your eyes if you get it in, and it needs to be washed off with a wash cloth. High maintenance for those of you not super serious about cleansers. I love it though because it washes off all of the oil from the surface of my skin and the pores and makes my skin feel super clean, matte and poreless. After a few minutes my skin starts reproducing oil again so my skin doesn’t feel dry or tight, just extremely clean and rebalanced. Perfect for sweaty sunscreen skin in the summer! You can also use this cleanser as a mask, which I do about once a week. The photography fluid is something I put on as a primer under my foundation and it gives a really pretty glow and blur to my pores and imperfections. I especially love this primer for when I know I’m going to be in a lot of pictures.

The rest of the products shown are a nice dry shampoo, setting powder and the Caudalie Beauty Elixer is a really nice setting spray for makeup that is also very cooling. When I use face powders I always use a setting spray like this that also has glycerine in it so that my makeup blends together and doesn’t look cakey or powdery.

You can click on icons on the image below to go to the full product page for each item.

Fit Review: Adidas By Stella McCartney Train Miracle Tank Top

by Cristina June 24, 2017
written by Cristina

I tried on some Adidas by Stella McCartney the other day and was surprised I really loved some of the designs and I’m really looking forward to hunting down more Adidas by Stella McCartney to try on. Some of items are way too out there for me (avant garde sweat pants, very long hoodies etc.) but the more athletic items are very elegant, and the colors and floral prints are really beautiful. The material Stella McCartney uses, climalite,  is my favourite and I believe it’s also used by Varley or at least made in the same Italian factory but called ‘microfibre compression fabric’.  It’s a really light weight, smooth and compressive luxtreme like material with a really tight knit weave.

The thing I really loved about this tank was how the front neckline really shows off shoulders and enhances your bust shape in a sexy way without exposing tons of cleavage. The armholes are really carved in which I usually hate, but in this case it created a really flattering look around the bust. I really loved the combination of Cherry Wood and Bold Blue. The fit of this tank was on the snugger side. I take a size 10, so I tried on the L and this was a snug fitting L. I think it’s because it’s meant to be a compression tank because I tried a few other SM pieces and they fit well. It wasn’t by any means an uncomfortable snug, it felt really nice on, it’s just clingier around my middle than I usually like.

I didn’t buy this tank because I wanted to see what other tanks I could find around town to try on, but I regret not purchasing it. I’ve posted below a pink tank called the Run Tank in White/Shock Pink and I’d love to be able to get that one to try on but it’s currently sold out in my size. I’ve also become obsessed with these Adidas Ultraboost X + Stella McCartney + Parley but they are out of my price range for sneakers. I’ve had my Parley Ultraboosts X a month now and I have to say they are the best sneakers I’ve ever had. They are so comfortable for walking – the ultraboost soles feel like you are walking on extremely plush carpet with wooly socks on! I definitely can’t wear these for Olympic weightlifting (unless we are working on light drills or warm-ups) but they are great for crossfit workouts and for travel when you are doing tons of walking.

Have you tried on Adidas by Stella McCartney?

Lululemon Canada 150

by Cristina June 23, 2017
written by Cristina

The Lululemon Canada 150 Special Edition items have been added to the website!

These special edition love tanks are themed with ‘We Are What We Practice’ and a tiny little red maple leaf, and then Love, Solidarity, Peaceful and Positivity. Two of the four of these are in French. These are to commemorate Canada’s 150th birthday on Saturday July 1 – so sadly these likely won’t ship out in time to arrive before Canada Day (actually I’m seeing a header that says it will!).  I’m actually surprised that Lululemon didn’t put more into these since many retailers (MAC for example) are making really great commemorative Canada 150 items. Ivivva got some really great Canada 150 items last month – red and white leggings and cool racerbacks.

I’m not purchasing one because I have a luon Cool Racerback from a few years ago that says ‘Home Is Here’ with a larger maple leaf on it.

*Ok I lied. I just purchased the Positivity one.

Sayang Collection from Carbon38

Sayang Collection

noun: darling, dearly loved or lovable (person or thing)

Carbon38 just released this new Sayang collection which has the most stunning crochet detailing. I’m especially loving the jacket and the leggings. I don’t often get blown away by design concepts in athletic apparel but these pieces are just so stunning. I especially LOVE that the hoodie that I’m eyeing up is made of Micro Modal which is a fabric that I adore. It’s incredibly silky and soft and drapes just beautifully. The beige color is beautiful and will look gorgeous on dark skin tones, or high contrasted paler skin.

Have any of you tried the Carbon38 house brand before? I’ve tried many of the items they carry but not the Carbon38 brand itself.

I just love the detailing here and the amount of ventilation you get without being totally exposed. This is a much fresher take on mesh paneling.

The Lululemon Upload!!!

The Lululemon upload is up!

Nothing for me today but I was tempted by the Love Tee Overdye that the US got sometime mid last week. I was hoping Canada would get it today, along with last weeks Energy Bra in Shell Pink but sadly that didn’t happen. Sheesh, it seems Canada is getting only a tiny amount of products lately while the US is getting a more normal upload. It doesn’t just seem like they are short on colors this year, it seems like they are much shorter on product overall.

I’m also liking the Fast & Free Crops in Adobe so I’ll probably order those since those get a lot of use in my closet. A lot of people have had seam issues with the Fast &Free crops but I haven’t yet so I feel safe taking a chance, although I think it’s only a matter of time before my black pair starts to unravel. Alouette is a nice print and I think that’s going to sell really well tonight, but I’m not drawn to it. I think I’m just black-white splatter style print fatigued.

What about you guys? Did you order anything? What do you think of the new items?

Lululemon UK Sneak Peeks

by Cristina June 20, 2017
written by Cristina

Some Lululemon UK Sneak Peeks are up!

I’m liking the Chase Me Onesie, and as you know from my post yesterday, I’ve been shopping for summer jumpsuits. Lululemon onesies are usually too short in the inseam for me but I definitely would like to give this one a try and see. I’ll probably size up in it so it’s loose fitting and not strangling my long torso.

I HATE this Entwined Print WU. I know they are popular and they’ve been hyped up in some of the groups but this print to me is so extremely unflattering. I don’t mean to roast a design that I know a lot of you may be excited for but I really, really hate the way the pattern curves around the butt and around the outer legs. Lululemon was known for their butt flattering pants. They would lift, shape and enhance your natural shape. The Lululemon omega seam used to be so flattering but lately their rear seam detailing and pattern placements  have been so incredibly unflattering on even some of the perkiest butts. Flattening, elongating and proportionally distorting. Please, tell me I’m not alone in this. The Pushing Limits Crop is another one of those designs that I just shake my head at. Is this the style now? are we having another cultural shift in what is preferred in butt shape? Perky bubble butts are out, long butts are in?

Guest Fit Review: Lululemon Shaped Short

by Cristina June 19, 2017
written by Cristina

Wonderful Mrs. O who we are all super grateful for has delivered another fit review for us! This time it’s the Shape Shorts. I’ve been so interested to try these lululemon shorts on because I love my spacer fabric sweat pants Embrace The Space Pant (currently marked down), but none of the stores near me have gotten these in yet. Check out her review below!

Mrs. O’s Lululemon Fit Review

Shaped Short

shaped short

I went to 3 local stores looking for the Shaped Short.  None of them had it.  I was thinking it might be an online item only.  I even called stores out of state.  But as I was checking out at LLL, the ed told me he thought someone made a return and the store might have them.  Well, they did!  And in my size.  These shorts are made of spacer fabric and feel nice on the skin.  The back of the short lays flat in a flattering way.  Like always, because of the pockets, the fabric pulled across the front a bit.  But no matter the size, it always happens to me.  These were TTS.  The ed thought they fit the way they should and thought a size up would look too big, especially from the back.  My only gripe is the waist.  It is a bit tight but I suspect they will stretch over time.  They created a very tiny muffin top but not unlike the speed shorts on me.  I think the spacer fabric will stay smooth throughout the day and will not wrinkle like other shorts.  These were a tad less relaxed than the On the Fly Short made of full-on luxtreme.  But not by much.  I ended up buying them because they are a nice pair of casual shorts that aren’t sporty.  I’m going to order a size up online just for a comparison.

Summer Jumpsuit Tend: Gap Sleeveless Jumpsuit Tencil Culotte

by Cristina June 19, 2017
written by Cristina

This is an unplanned post for today but I just had to share an exciting new  Gap Sleeveless Jumpsuit Tencil Culotte purchase with you today, so that you could take advantage of the sale as well, which ends tonight.  Normally this post would have gone up over the weekend. I’ve been very interested in the jumpsuit trend but haven’t seen a cut that would work well for my short, curvy stature. I like the idea of a jumpsuit though because it eliminates my need of wearing a pair of shorts under my dresses or skirts because I get thigh friction. These Lululemon shorts are perfect for that by the way! What I’ve been wanting was something that at first glance looks like a midi dress and not culottes which are just a disaster shape for short legs. I think a bigger problem is culottes with a top because that really cuts my body in half, vs this style which is all one look from top to bottom, with a v-neck.  I was scrolling on the Aritzia site since they have their client sale going on right now hoping to find a jumpsuit and I also checked Zara, H&M, Mango and then I wondered if Gap would have something. All of these retailers have jumpsuits but I really wanted something cropped length, not super short, and no tappered legs.

I was so excited to see the Gap Sleeveless Jumpsuit Tencil Culotte particularly because its’ made of tencil which I love. Tencil is really similar to modal, but it’s crisp like silk. I am constantly hunting down the tencil modal tops at Aritzia because I find those are the far superior quality pieces, and they are so lightweight and airy for summer. I don’t think I’ve ever seen tencil used at the Gap before, so this is an exciting revelation. It’s as exciting as my silk/cashmere blended sweater find at Lole on clearance the other day!

Anyways, my size was sold out online even though they have regular, petite and tall size runs, and an extended size range  –  but they have a really great feature where you can search to see if any stores near you have the item. I was able to do a charge send from a local Gap store which had one in my size (on sale!) so hopefully later on this week I can do a fit review for you of this jumpsuit and let you know if it was a great purchase or not, and if this was the right silhouette for my shape.  I may actually order the red one tonight too before the sale ends because I’ve been really gravitating to tomato reds this summer.

Mesh On Mesh Jacket
Fit Review

Fit Review: Mesh On Mesh Jacket

by Cristina June 19, 2017
written by Cristina

I’m so sorry for the late fit review of the Mesh On Mesh Jacket. I ordered this from last weeks upload but for some reason, by Friday afternoon my order was still in processing. I contacted GEC a few times but they were swamped with calls from the Lululemon website issues so it took a lot of time. When I did eventually get through I was told that unfortunately my order had glitched and it was stuck in processing and would not complete.  I was promised that if I re-purchase the item I ordered, my original order would absolutely not go through. Guess what just arrived on my doorstep! Oh well.

I really like this Mesh On Mesh Jacket. It’s a nice soft mesh and I really like the cuff detailing on the hem and the wrists. I also really like that it’s got a hood. This is TTS 10 for me and I would not size down in this at all as it’s just shy of being a short length on me. I know someone else who purchased this jacket and sized down for more of a bomber look, but I’m long in the torso so I can’t sacrifice length. My only complaint about this jacket is that I’ve now tried on three of them and they all have sticky flimsy zippers. At $125, the zippers should be higher quality. I like the jacket though so I think I’m going to keep it and hope that the zipper holds up – but it’s a pain having to take things back to the store for quality issues. Before I decide if I’m keeping it, I really want to check this Gap Mesh Bomber Jacket which is priced at $54, (I believe the 40% off sale is still going so it will actually be $32) and see if the zipper quality is a bit better.

What do you guys think? Have you had a chance to try this jacket on yet?

I have another review coming this afternoon courtesy of Mrs. O – so stay tuned for that!!
