Guest Fit Review: Lululemon Shaped Short

Wonderful Mrs. O who we are all super grateful for has delivered another fit review for us! This time it’s the Shape Shorts. I’ve been so interested to try these lululemon shorts on because I love my spacer fabric sweat pants Embrace The Space Pant (currently marked down), but none of the stores near me have gotten these in yet. Shaped Short

I went to 3 local stores looking for the Shaped Short. None of them had it. I was thinking it might be an online item only. I even called stores out of state. But as I was checking out at LLL, the ed told me he thought someone made a return and the store might have them. Well, they did! And in my size. These shorts are made of spacer fabric and feel nice on the skin. The back of the short lays flat in a flattering way. Like always, because of the pockets, the fabric pulled across the front a bit. But no matter the size, it always happens to me. These were TTS. The ed thought they fit the way they should and thought a size up would look too big, especially from the back. My only gripe is the waist. It is a bit tight but I suspect they will stretch over time. They created a very tiny muffin top but not unlike the speed shorts on me. I think the spacer fabric will stay smooth throughout the day and will not wrinkle like other shorts. These were a tad less relaxed than the On the Fly Short made of full-on luxtreme. But not by much. I ended up buying them because they are a nice pair of casual shorts that aren’t sporty. I’m going to order a size up online just for a comparison.

Summer Jumpsuit Tend: Gap Sleeveless Jumpsuit Tencil Culotte

This is an unplanned post for today but I just had to share an exciting new Gap Sleeveless Jumpsuit Tencil Culotte purchase with you today, so that you could take advantage of the sale as well, which ends tonight. Normally this post would have gone up over the weekend. I’ve been very interested in the jumpsuit trend but haven’t seen a cut that would work well for my short, curvy stature. I like the idea of a jumpsuit though because it eliminates my need of wearing a pair of shorts under my dresses or skirts because I get thigh friction. These Lululemon shorts are perfect for that by the way! What I’ve been wanting was something that at first glance looks like a midi dress and not culottes which are just a disaster shape for short legs. I think a bigger problem is culottes with a top because that really cuts my body in half, vs this style which is all one look from top to bottom, with a v-neck. I was scrolling on the Aritzia site since they have their client sale going on right now hoping to find a jumpsuit and I also checked Zara, H&M, Mango and then I wondered if Gap would have something. All of these retailers have jumpsuits but I really wanted something cropped length, not super short, and no tappered legs.

I was so excited to see the Gap Sleeveless Jumpsuit Tencil Culotte particularly because its’ made of tencil which I love. Tencil is really similar to modal, but it’s crisp like silk. I am constantly hunting down the tencil modal tops at Aritzia because I find those are the far superior quality pieces, and they are so lightweight and airy for summer. I don’t think I’ve ever seen tencil used at the Gap before, so this is an exciting revelation. It’s as exciting as my silk/cashmere blended sweater find at Lole on clearance the other day!

Anyways, my size was sold out online even though they have regular, petite and tall size runs, and an extended size range – but they have a really great feature where you can search to see if any stores near you have the item. I was able to do a charge send from a local Gap store which had one in my size (on sale!) so hopefully later on this week I can do a fit review for you of this jumpsuit and let you know if it was a great purchase or not, and if this was the right silhouette for my shape. I may actually order the red one tonight too before the sale ends because I’ve been really gravitating to tomato reds this summer.

Fit Review: Mesh On Mesh Jacket

I’m so sorry for the late fit review of the Mesh On Mesh Jacket. I ordered this from last weeks upload but for some reason, by Friday afternoon my order was still in processing. I contacted GEC a few times but they were swamped with calls from the Lululemon website issues so it took a lot of time. When I did eventually get through I was told that unfortunately my order had glitched and it was stuck in processing and would not complete. I was promised that if I re-purchase the item I ordered, my original order would absolutely not go through. Guess what just arrived on my doorstep! Oh well.

I really like this Mesh On Mesh Jacket. It’s a nice soft mesh and I really like the cuff detailing on the hem and the wrists. I also really like that it’s got a hood. This is TTS 10 for me and I would not size down in this at all as it’s just shy of being a short length on me. I know someone else who purchased this jacket and sized down for more of a bomber look, but I’m long in the torso so I can’t sacrifice length. My only complaint about this jacket is that I’ve now tried on three of them and they all have sticky flimsy zippers. At $125, the zippers should be higher quality. I like the jacket though so I think I’m going to keep it and hope that the zipper holds up – but it’s a pain having to take things back to the store for quality issues. Before I decide if I’m keeping it, I really want to check this Gap Mesh Bomber Jacket which is priced at $54, (I believe the 40% off sale is still going so it will actually be $32) and see if the zipper quality is a bit better.

Gapfit Reviews: Wonder Woman Shield Leggings, Sculpt Compression Tights

Guys, thank you so much for recommending the Gapfit Breathe Tie Back Tank. Because of your recommendations I ended up stopping in at the Gap today and exploring their Gapfit department, and I found these amazing Wonder Woman tights. My daughters and I LOVED the movie by the way, and a few weeks ago I saw that Gap had some Wonder Woman merchandise online. I really liked the look of the women’s tights online but I couldn’t tell that they where a luxtreme like material, and that the embossed shield and lasso print was actually a rubberized gold – and really nice quality. I thought it was silkscreened. For some reason I had a bit of a bias thinking that the merchandise would be inferior quality so I didn’t order when it was all available online. I also took for granted that there would be so little wonder woman merchandise in general available. What is up with that!! I am so excited that I found these in store today (online return) and that they where part of the sale markdown pricing, and that the quality and fit where amazing. Unfortunately for Canadians I think these are sold out online (nope – there is a size M available in the lasso version), but you can do the store search and find them in several Canadian stores. For US shoppers though you have two legging options available, as well as some more women’s clothing. I wish I’d snatched up the bra when it was online last week.

The fit of these are comfortable TTS with a lot of stretch, but full opacity. As I mentioned above, the material is like a luxtreme but soft on the inside like nulu – they don’t feel too warm at all despite being full length leggings. The rise is higher with a wide waistband. I take a size 10 at Lululemon and these are a size L. With the sale they came out to $41.97!

These are the GapFit Sculpt Compression Capris in the color Royal and they are the most vibrant jewel tone. These fit snugger than the leggings above, but that was expected in compression tights. They are a luxtreme like material with a slight bit of sheen but full opacity in a deep squat. These where not included in the sale but I loved the fit and feel of them and at $69, they where still a bargain.

This is the Gapfit Breathe Tie Back Tank that so many of you recommended and I definitely have to agree that this is the better purchase. The neckline is lower and much more comfortable, the material is nice and soft and there are dozens of colors to choose from. The price point is great at $29.95, but the sale price was even better at $17.97.

I’m not doing a very good job of narrowing this list down. I love the cut of this waffle knit sweater, and I love that it comes in bright colors as well. I love that it has a v neck in the front and in the back.

Father’s Day Gift Guide

Guys! Father’s Day is this weekend! For some reason I thought it was next week, but it’s June 18th! I like to keep a year round gift guide idea for my husband because he is so hard to shop for and come birthdays or Christmas I’m stumped, so this gift guide I’m sharing with you is sort of specific to him and his likes and tastes. This is not the typical ‘themed’ gift guides like ‘the sporty dad’ or ‘the fashion dad’ or ‘BBQ essentials’. I hope it helps inspire you in case you are like me and have left this till the very last minute because you thought you had an entire extra week to prepare. Most of these ideas translate well to my dad, my brother, and brother in law as well, so feel free to use this for any special guy in your life that you want to honour on Father’s Day.

Also you may note that a lot of the gift ideas are on the rather pricey side for Father’s Day (I do have several under $100, and under $50 though). This is because my husband NEVER ever goes shopping for himself, and I never buy him stuff unless it’s an occasion. Basically, he has 3 pairs of holy sport socks, the same pair of shorts he’s worn the past three years, the same sun glasses he’s had for over 6 years….you get the idea. For this reason I like to splurge a little bit more on his gifts than I would normally. Aren’t all guys like this? I know my brother hasn’t purchased anything for himself in years, and my brother in law is like that. My dad is a little different though. He’s got a closet full of Tommy Bahama shirts NWT hanging in his closet.

The Lululemon Upload

The Lululemon Upload is up!!

I’m so annoyed that Canada didn’t get the Shell Pink Energy Bra.That would have been a must have purchase for me. I’m loving the mix of mid and light tone pinks like Velvet Dust, Shell Pink, Figue, Cherry Blossom and Powedered Rose – It’s just too bad that we are only seeing tiny little hints of those colors instead of a full color story. I would love an Essential Tank and Swiftly Tech LS’s in Figue, Velvet or Shell Pink. Oh well. I ordered the Mesh On Mesh Jacket to try on. I’m liking the look of it a lot, I’m just not sure on what occasion I would work a fully mesh jacket into my outfit. It’s really cute though and maybe with a brightly colored tank underneath it, like faded zap, or shell pink, it would make for a really cute outfit.

Mesh On Mesh Pop Over, On The Fly Short

I wanted to try on the shape short but the store hadn’t gotten them in yet. I tried the on the fly short because I’ve never tried them on before. I liked that they were a non-sporty, casual short. The fabric and cut was nice. But as always, pockets pull across my thighs weird. I didn’t have the energy to try them on in a size up. So, while the shorts were TTS, I think I would have preferred a size up. I liked the shape from the back and found it to be flattering. The length was also nice. I may consider trying them on in the size up; that is, if I don’t like the shaped short better.

The Mesh on Mesh Pop Over was a size up for me. My TTS fit but it was harder to get on and off because the mesh wasn’t as giving. The mesh was soft and not scratchy. I like the idea of a mesh pullover but I think I would prefer it in a bomber jacket style. The opaque part of the pull over was high enough to make me feel comfortable and not feel like I was exposing too much abs. Although I don’t think I would wear this pullover with only a bra; most likely I would wear it with a full tank. I’m undecided on this pullover. I’d like to try it in white. I may reconsider it if it goes on WMTM.

Too bad hubby wasn’t with me so that you could see the full effect of the pullover. I took so many photos trying to show more of a front view without my hand and phone covering most of it. I wasn’t successful.

Twist & Train Crop, Power Pose Tank The power pose tank was TTS. I actually liked the power pose tank better than the power y tank. I was told that the main difference was the power pose tank was cut slightly higher. I also like that it was light luon rather than luon. The fabric felt softer and more forgiving. I find that the power y tank is a bit low cut; especially when I bend over. Because it is a lighter coverage, the band of the built in bra was looser and didn’t cut in as much. The straps also seemed a bit longer too so it didn’t pull down on my traps as much as the power y tank. I ended up buying the tank because I really loved the softness of the pink.

The twist and train crop was TTS and a 9.5/10 in sheerness. If you did a really deep knee bend you can slightly see through the fabric. The bend test was opaque enough for me. (As you know, I’m really sensitive about sheerness. I don’t want people looking at me and wonder why I didn’t buy a larger size). I love the jaded color. Unfortunately, my photos don’t do the color justice. I wasn’t sure if I’d like the lace-like mesh but it was a nice feminine touch. The lace felt sturdy and smooth. Not itchy at all. As you can see, the mesh is not too sheer; it had more coverage than I expected. The band on these crops was really comfortable. It was easy to get over my hips, stayed flat without digging in and not too tight. I generally dress sporty when I workout so I wasn’t sure if I’d like them. But surprisingly, I really liked the crops and ended up purchasing them! I’m liking the newer, more feminine items.

I realized when I got home that I should have taken photos from the back mirror so you could get a better full length picture. Next time!

Pace Perfect Crop

I ordered these online and am waiting for them to arrive. Since I was in the store, I decided to try them on. These crops were TTS and not sheer where it was double paneled. Between the band and double panel, there is a small patch of fabric that is a bit sheer. It didn’t bother we because the “important” parts were opaque. The band is bonded but fit flatter and smoother than the mind over miles crop bonded band. I think it is because the bonded portion of the band was wider. I thought I would have a harder time getting them over my hips but it wasn’t as difficult as other tights. Once on, it fit nicely. I’m uncertain whether I will keep them because of the price and I felt that the print made my thighs look wider. Who wants that? It’s a nice compromise to an all white tight for me.

Summer Haze Multi Wunder Under Pant Hi Rise Summer Multi Haze WUP

These tights were TTS and a 9/10 on the sheerness scale. The print is printed on a white background and I didn’t think the pattern dissipated much on the knee and bend test. The ed didn’t think it was sheer at all — just a bit of white coming through. I would have to try it on in brighter lighting to determine if it is actually sheer or not. I was surprised that I liked the print on a full length tight. The picture is a bit more muted than the actual color in person. You could definitely see the pinks but I think my bright pink tank took away from the pink in the tights. I was too lazy to find a matching tank so I just tried it on with the tank and jacket I wore to the store. I didn’t end up buying them because I’m going to wait and see if the print comes out in a crop or short.

This past week my husband and I went on a little getaway to Las Vegas to celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary. We thought it was fitting to celebrate lucky number 13 at a casino. I highly recommend doing a weekend away for the special anniversaries. We spent our 10th in New York and went for a more straightforward vacation for our 13th. While there, I got to do a little shopping – one of the things I picked up was the Tory Burch Miller Sandal in Vintage Vachetta.

I’ve wanted the miller sandals for a long time but resisted getting them because they are such pricey sandals. They hit the right style note, though, by being as elegant as they are casual so that you can wear them with a pretty summer dress, skirt, jeans, or cutoff shorts.

I search in vain for the Tory Burch Sandal deals

I hoped to find them at the Premium Outlets, but the outlet store had many other sandal options but no millers. I did like a few of the styles at the outlet, but the kinds they had were outlet-only styles, and the leather was not as nice as the leather used in non-outlet designs. I made the mistake of buying outlet Tory Burch shoes several years ago at the same outlet. The leather feels more like faux leather, and I never wear them – they make my feet too sweaty. So I opted to return to Nordstrom and purchase the sandals I initially had been eying for the regular price.

Finding the perfect color in the best Tory Burch Sandals

I tried on several pairs of neutral colors. I narrowed it down to the color makeup closest to my skin tone and a great neutral, gold, white, and vintage vachetta. The Vintage Vachetta was the winner for me because it paired the best with black, denim, navy, white, and pretty much all the colors I usually wear. I think the vachetta is the most neutral of all the colors.

How do the miller sandals fit?

I purchased it in my regular size 9. Still, when I returned to our hotel room, I read reviews (there are 1.4K reviews on the Nordstrom website), and most of them suggested sizing up 1/2 to a full size. I tried my shoes on again, and even though they felt right, my foot covered most of the sandal bottom. So we went back, and I tried the 1/2 size up; indeed, it looked better. I could have even gone a full size up, too, but I hate when the front of the sandals is so long that it catches on stairs. Suppose you have an average-sized foot (not wide, not exceptionally high arches). I recommend sizing up 1/2 a size. If you have wide feet or high arches, or long toes – go a full-size up!
