Coming Soon! Athleta Striped Relay Capri, Mantra Capri

by Cristina May 18, 2017
written by Cristina

I succumbed to the hype that is growing within the community over the new Athleta Striped Relay Capri before they sell out, but I also really wanted to try the Powervita fabric so I ordered the Mantra Capri as well. Hopefully I’ll have reviews up for you early next week!
*Looks like I’ll be receiving them on Friday May 26, so the review will hopefully be up over that weekend.

Fit Review: Nike Dry Knit Tank, Nike Breathe Cool Tee, Nike Breathe Tank

by Cristina May 18, 2017
written by Cristina

This is part two to yesterday’s fit review post. I actually need to go back to the store to exchange some items so I may get a chance to try on more items.  I’ll have a few more tops, and run tights in a part three post.

Nike Dry Knit Tank

I really love this Nike Dry Knit Tank. It’s kind of a merge between a racerback tank and a looser fitting singlet, and a polyester knit fabric – but the material is really soft and silky and cool, but not delicate. I can’t see this snagging easily. This tank totally replaces the ‘racerback tanks’ in my collection and  in my top 5 list for workout tops.  I love the colors it comes in and that the heathering is contrasted with wisps of other colors. I’m not an orange person but I love that the Sunset Glow orange has purple heathering in it, so I think this one was actually my favourite. I love that it’s loose but not oversized or saggy in the armholes. The photos below are of the tank in a size L (I’m a 10 in other brand tops) and I actually ended up purchasing the XL without trying it on. The L fit really well and I am considering going back to exchange the XL for the L, but I also like that the XL is much looser in the middle. The negative about this tank is that it’s quite a lot pricier than my racerback tanks, but, it is on sale in the US for the same price as a similar brand and style.

This color is so pretty! It’s not as flattering on my skin tone but I gravitated to it because it’s so similar to Barkberry.

I forgot to get a picture of the back design but I like that it’s strappy, without being low cut in the back.

Nike Breath Cool Tee

This tee has such an interesting material. It is incredibly thin and almost looks like tissue crepe, but it’s not delicate at all. I loved how this tee flowed and moved and how light and airy it was. Because I got the tanks above, I didn’t pick this one up, but actually I think I want to return one of the ones above and get this one instead since it’s a much lower price. This is an L on me and it was plenty loose and flowy. It is slightly sheer within the texture of the material, but not enough that I feel like I need to wear a tank underneath or that I feel exposed. I think the lighter colors are sheerer vs. this bright color, or the black.

Nike Breathe Tank

I actually didn’t care for this tank very much but that was because I don’t love the style of the high neck and carved in armholes, and then halter style straps in the back. The material is nice and light and this would be a great top for a sweaty workout, it just wasn’t for me. It’s also slightly sheer as you can see.

Fit Review: Nike Power Legendary

by Cristina May 18, 2017
written by Cristina

Oh wow you guys!! I did some  major damage at the Nike store today and I’m going to have to separate my fit review into several posts over the next few days. Spoiler alert though, I spent bank today. In my quest to try some new fitness apparel brands I never imagined Nike would make it to the top of my list. I’ve forgotten about Nike over the years with the exception of their shoes, and I’m not quite sure what inspired me to even look through the clothing on their website but I’m really glad I did.

I dragged my poor kids to the mall after school to see if they had the Nike Power Legendary Tights that I ordered online yesterday and they had two of the three colorways I liked. Definitely the medium in the blue colorway is going to have to be returned because large is the right size for me, and I’m going to try and chase down a large or stalk the website for them to pop back up.

Nike Power Legendary Prism Pink Black

There was just so much color in store, and so many color options for each style of tank, tee, long sleeve and tights. Warm colors, cool colors, neutrals, jewel tones, crazy prints – and somehow they all integrated very well with each other. I had to try these on first since these where the ones that caught my eye like a magnet on the website. The material is 80% Nylon/20% Spandex, pretty much like luon. They don’t have a ton of stretch to them like WU’s do, but they are compressive and comfortable and soft. These passed the opacity test for me in store but I need to wait for my order to arrive so I can double check the opacity in natural light. These are a size L on me and I typically take a size 10 in Lululemon – these felt more like a size 9, which actually works best for me. They are snug going on but once on they stay in place. If you are on the upper side of a size 10, go with an XL. They are a mid rise which I love, and a great length for me. Pants, but not so long that they fully cover my feet and need to be hemmed. I also really loved the waist detail in the back with the ‘v’ shaped hip seam. I can’t recommend these tights enough. If the color and print entices you as much as it did me, you should definitely give them a try.

Look for my follow up fit review for the other pieces I tried on today. I’ll try and post it tonight or tomorrow morning.

Olympic Lifting Jerk Drills

by Cristina May 17, 2017
written by Cristina

I was inspired to pull out my Varley tights for today’s workout because I really needed that extra leopard print energy to power me through a crazy hectic day.  Don’t you find these bold prints and colors really energize you and push you out the door when maybe you aren’t quite feeling a workout? The more streamlined neutral stuff is great for when you are just going through the motions of getting to your workout, but when I really need that boost and kick out the door I need a crazy print. I had to race my kids to dance class this afternoon right after school (and after a day of upload blogging) –  they have started taking Irish dancing, and unfortunately the class timing means I have to stay in the area. It was so tempting to bail out on my workout since the day already had such a frenetic pace. I desperately did not want to go, but I’m so glad I did. There is a park right behind the dance school with lots of stairs so I was able to get some cardio warm up in right before having to dash the kids back home, and then racing back to my olympic weightlifting class. I’m looking forward to doing another park routine next dance class.

I did a fit review of my Varley tights here, and my Lorna Jane excel short sleeve here. Today I was inspired to branch out a bit and remember some of my favourite fitness apparel items. I love the feel of my Varley tights, the material is really luxuriously silky yet compressive and opaque. The material is ‘Italian microfibre compression fabric’. All I know is I want more items in this material because it is lux, and it stays up! The Lorna Jane excel SS my top favourite top to wear to Olympic lifting, which you’ve probably noticed in most of my other Olympic Lifting posts. Both of these items are sold out, but I’ve posted a few options below from Varley which are the same material, and a Lorna Jane top in the same excel material. I am eyeing up a full length Varley tight which is almost sold out, but I’m going to the US next month and I think I can find it there.

We did some great drills today with a focus on the jerk part of the clean and jerk. The first drill was doing the jerk with a starting position of holding the bar on top of our heads, then going up on our toes, then exploding into the jerk while keeping the bar straight and steady. We had to hold the final position for eternity + a year while the coach walked around and tried to knock the bars about. The bars had to stay steady. Today my arms are so sore from all those little tiny stabilizing muscles holding that bar in position.

Nike Power Legendary

Ooh guys, so I think I just fell in love hard with a new colorful print. In my last post I shared that I was window shopping and wanting to place an order on some new activewear brands that I haven’t yet tried. I filled my shopping cart with a few options but then I had to get my kids to dance class, and then myself to Olympic lifting after that. I actually dug out my Varley crops for my workout to remind myself that I’m wanting to try some new designs. Now that I’m home I happened to check the Nike.com website just before checking out with my other selections, and I fell in lust and love with this Nike print. So much so that I ordered all three colors, and had to order the blue version in a size down because my size wasn’t available. Um, I love that I was able to order this in CAD off a Canadian website and get free shipping on my order. I was feeling a bit harumph at all the fit reviews of other brands that I don’t have access to happening on the facebook groups. I’m so looking forward to giving these a try, and I really hope that I can make the blue pair work despite being a size down. I’ll post a fit review and a workout review the minute they arrive.

Have any of you tried these ones on before?

Window Shopping: Outdoor Voices, PE Nation

by Cristina May 16, 2017
written by Cristina

Since the current color selection and tone has been rather lackluster, a couple of items have really caught my eye elsewhere over the past few weeks and I’m about ready to pull the trigger. Outdoor voices is speaking my color language with these rose quartz and jade green colors, and PE nation has some awesome colorful striped pieces that I’ve been seeing on my instagram. I’ve also been drooling over many of the Athleta tights I’ve been seeing in the facebook groups but I’m having a little trouble ordering online from them so that’s going to be put on hold for now. Have any of you ordered directly from Outdoor voices before? Any Canadians? I’m thinking of ordering tonight and doing some reviews next week. IF I’m feeling spicey I may order the PE Nation leggings too.

Essential Tank
The Lululemon Upload

The Lululemon Upload

by Cristina May 16, 2017
written by Cristina

The Lululemon upload is up! I’m extremely excited that the Essential Tank is back, and back in pretty colors! I snagged both the blue and green earlier today but I may also get the black later tonight if I’m feeling spendy. I’m also really liking both of the new Fast & Free Crops. I have the Fast & Free Crop in black and it’s become my new favourite crop for Crossfit/Oly lifting. It’s so comfortable to wear and it stays up so well for me. This new one in Soundwave Alpine Black is interesting to me, despite the fact that I’m bored of the static black white prints. This one seems to be mostly black, and a calmer static print. I tried on the Pace Perfect Crop earlier today and I really liked it, but of the two I lean more towards the Fast & Free Crop.

Fit Review

Fit Review: Uncovered Muscle Tank, Essential Tank, Pace Perfect Crops

by Cristina May 16, 2017
written by Cristina

Here is the Tuesday morning, pre-upload Lululemon Fit Review! I love doing my Lululemon fit reviews but much prefer it when the stores get products on Monday so we have a days heads up to the upload items.

Uncovered Muscle Tank

I was very surprised that I liked this new tank on. It’s nicely loose fitting without being boxy or shapeless and it’s long enough that I can wear this casually with jeans, jean shorts or wunder unders. I was worried that the burnout portions would be very delicate but it’s not the same as the Lean In pieces from last week. This is a cotton/polyester blend so it’s a bit more sturdy in the burnout portions vs. the very light luon burnout of the Lean In pieces. I’m not a huge fan of polyester blended cotton because I find it much hotter for summer than a regular cotton tank, but I definitely think this tank is pretty cute. It comes in white or black.

Essential Tank, Pace Perfect Crop

The Essential Tank is one of my top favourite go-to lululemon tank style along with original cool racerback and 105F Singlet. I’m so happy to see these back. I had a mild heart attack over them on the weekend when the Robson St. store got these two colors in, but they where sold out in every size but 2 and 4. I found the green in a size 6 and I took it home. Surprisingly, two sizes down (the 6), still fits loose around the middle and doesn’t cling to hips. I would have been happy keeping the 6 if it was all that was available. Since my store had my size today (size 10) I opted to exchange the size 6 for it because I really love the length and drape of the TTS and I love how the pleats in the back look. I highly, highly recommend this tank. It’s really cool and lightweight for workouts, and when I do handstands or burpees I just tuck it in to my pants in the front and back. It’s maybe not a sexy top since it has so much coverage, but it’s very feminine. The green is Viridian Green but I’m not sure what the blue is. The color code for the blue is HAIR.

The Pace Perfect Crops are very snug going on in my TTS 10, particularly in the waist. I’m not sure what it is about the waist but I think it’s a folded over extra wide, and it seems to have little stretch. Once on though they felt really nice on and secure and compressive. The print is backed in white, but I found them opaque and the print doesn’t seem to fade to white around the knees or upper thighs.

Love Tank Royal

The Love Tank and Love Crewneck Tee is out in Royal and I was so tempted. I opted not to get it because I decided to get both colors of the Essential Tank. This is my TTS 10 and it’s loose enough to wear with jeans, but not oversized.
