Fit Review: Athleta Striped Relay Capri 2.0

by Cristina May 25, 2017
written by Cristina

Ooh I’m so excited! My Athleta order arrived a few days earlier than I expected it to. I’m now under ‘cook me dinner’ pressure from my kids so I will review the much hyped relay capris first, and my other crops I ordered will be posted tomorrow.

Athleta Striped Relay Capri 2.0

I ordered the Athleta Striped Relay Capri 2.0 in a size L and they are the correct size for me. They are compressive going on, but fit really comfortably and don’t pinch my waist at all. I’m so impressed that these are fully opaque, and despite being polyester based (recycled polyester), they are matte and very soft and lovely. These are exceptional quality for the USD price, and really, if you think of who they are competing with in the market of athletic apparel, converting this to CAD and paying shipping isn’t all that exorbitant on a multi order shipment.

I was initially hesitant to order these because I don’t love contrasted mesh panels, and I worried that the multi panel striped print would be busy, but instead I find them incredibly flattering. The white striped panels at the hip really help visually narrow your hips from the front, which is nice detail on a horizontal stripe. I am really glad that the stripes line up, which I believe is uniform across all sizes for these. I haven’t heard reports at all of having to cherry pick ‘good stripe placement’ on these, and they have been reviewed a ton in all of the facebook groups. Another design detail I really like is the ankle/calf seams. I don’t find the hems too narrow or constricting at all but that seam detail really gives these pants some sleek athletic detail. These crops have all the run crop bells and whistles with the soft breathable sweat wicking fabric, wide soft waistband, zippered pocket and mesh inserts.

I really wish Athleta where more accessible to Canadian shoppers and that they didn’t charge such exorbitant shipping fees to ship to Canada, in addition to calculating in the duties and taxes at checkout. We Canadians know that that early fee calculation is a huge rip off for us. If they figured out a way to do more equitable business in Canada I am certain they would have a lot of consumer support. Luckily I live very close to the US border so despite the fact that it’s an inconvenience to pick my orders up in the US, I at least save on shipping and pay the true duties.

My Nike Order Arrived

by Cristina May 24, 2017
written by Cristina

I just wanted to give you guys a quick update on my order since my new Nike Power Legendary Tights just arrived. First of all, the shipping was a lot quicker than I thought. I was actually complaining yesterday about how long Nike shipping takes, and when I went to look at when I ordered these it only took 7 days. So shut up, Cristina!

I ordered all three colors of these Nike Splatter Print tights but the blue colorway was sold out except for M and XL so I took a chance and ordered them in the M. Sadly the blue ones don’t fit me at all, and those are the ones I most liked of the three. I do love the other colors though so I’m absolutely keeping them, I just really wanted the blue ones too. Oh well! These fit snugger than the run tights I tried on in store but only because they have slightly less stretch. Once on they fit and feel great!

The real reason for this post is to show how cute these pants look with my Nike Metcons.

I didn’t realize the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale was already live! The Lululemon Upload

The Lululemon Upload

by Cristina May 23, 2017
written by Cristina

The lululemon upload is up! Very light upload today, and especially light for Canadian shoppers. For some reason Canada didn’t get the It’s a Tie Tank or the Deep Forest Tight Stuff Tights. I think I may have liked the Mash Up White Black print in a pair of hi rise wunder under crops, but it’s way too hot out now to wear full length luxtreme leggings. I was excited to see a minty color but I was hoping it was Bali Breeze or Menthol, or maybe something new. Toothpaste was too pale of a mint green for me when it came out last and it looks more like an aqua blue in person. Final Lap crops are interesting since they are nulux and have finished hems which the fast and free do not. I’d like to try them on.

While We Wait For The Upload…

by Cristina May 23, 2017
written by Cristina

While we wait for the Lululemon Upload, I’m window shopping today.., maybe a little bit more than window shopping.

I’ve been dying to order this Nike Dry Knit Tee because I’m in love with the multi color heathering. It’s pricey though and shipping isn’t super quick so I was hoping I’d see it in store this week, but sadly none in my area have it. I think I may bite the bullet and get it this week at some point. It’s the same material as the tanks I got last week and I’m really loving those. So lightweight and soft.

Adidas Ultraboost Parley

I ordered these yesterday  and I cannot wait for them to arrive. I have been really wanting to try the Ultraboosts but I haven’t swooned over a colorway yet until this one. And then I read about the Parley collaboration on them and I had to order them. I’ll post more about these once they arrive but I wanted to include them in this post. These are going to officially kick me in the butt when I really want to cherry pick my WOD workouts so I don’t do any running. Now I’m just going to have to do my run wods.

Alo Yoga has some really gorgeous new designs up on Carbon38. I had been looking at some leggings over the weekend in a print called Canyon, but sadly it seems to be sold out today. On a positive note, they have an entire page of new product drop for all the  Alo items so I’m sure I’ll find something else to add to my wish list.

Alo Yoga Wanderer Long Sleeve

I’ve never ordered from Active In Style before but their prices seem not bad for US shoppers. These Camrose leggings stood out to me because of the gold detailing. Don’t you just want to wear these when you go watch Wonder Woman? I’m so looking forward to watching that movie with my daughters.

Actually, I found the Alo Canyon print on Zappos, Isn’t it gorgeous? Reminds me of the Wanderlust items from a few years ago…but better.

And I also found them on Carbon38 again.

Scuba Hoodie III Heathered Darkest Magenta

If you are a Scuba Hoodie III fan, this one just now arrived on my doorstep and it is a keeper! It’s incredibly soft and snuggly and fits very well. The sleeves and torso are nice and long, the color is saturated and it feels so soft and stretchy on.

Some lululemon store photos for you this morning. Cute new tank called the Tie Tank. I’ve seen a few try ons of this tank and it looks like she’s tied it looser here. It also comes in Deep Forest. These new Final Lap Crops are made of nulux and they have finished hems (unlike Fast & Free Tights/Crops).

Lorna Jane Excel Tank

OOTD

by Cristina May 22, 2017
written by Cristina

How many of you have that mild feeling of dread creeping on knowing that your day to day routine is about to get disrupted by summer vacation? Me! Actually, I really love summer vacation with my kids, as long as our day has somewhat of a routine going on, and I can get my workouts in and work done. Because I’m home (work from home/SAHM) we don’t do summer day camps for the kids as it’s extremely pricey, but I do spend the summer with them getting them out of the house swimming, bike riding and generally moving as much as possible. If I can bring them with me to the gym 50% of the time that is a win but most of the time they have other plans for me, so that leaves me with getting a workout in at the playground while they play. This weekend was the Victoria Day long weekend and we had 4 days off of ‘stuff’ so this was a reminder of what are days are going to be like in a few short weeks. By the way, this stage in parenting where the kids can both ride bikes confidently, and I can ride along with them in my bike is kind of the best. This will be the first summer we can do that!

This Lorna Jane top was perfect for our bike ride because it was pretty hot out and the open print created nice air flow. I got this tank sometime last year so it’s currently sold out, but there are very similar versions on the Lorna Jane site right now which I linked to below. I wore my Align Pant II‘s but it was so hot that I wish I’d worn shorts. My festival bag is a summer staple for me. I’m a handbag snob, but in the summer there is no way I’m taking a nice handbag to the pool or on a bike ride, and backpacks are too hot on my back, so this bag is perfect. I can cram it in to a pool locker, or throw it over my shoulder when riding my bike and I never have to worry about scuffing it or getting it wet with pool water.

Olympic Weightlifting + Nike Power Lux Tight & Breathe Cool Short Sleeve Test Run

by Cristina May 20, 2017
written by Cristina

I was really looking forward to testing out my new Nike Breathe Cool Short Sleeve Top, and tights  today at oly lifting because we have moved into a warm weather streak in Vancouver and this top seems to be made for this weather. I actually purchased it in mind for an up coming Las Vegas trip. I also wanted to test how warm these tights where going to be. The top is very  light and gauzy, and it’s made of a recycled polyester material. It’s incredibly lightweight  and feels as light as a thin grocery bag. It actually reminds me a lot of silk, but without being high maintenance.  I don’t think I’ve ever felt a tee or tank as light as this. It’s really nice because it’s got an irregular loose and open weave so the air breezes right through it, but I don’t feel exposed at all. I am slightly worried that it’s so delicate that it will snag, but I’ve put it through the test a bit with some rough surfaces at crossfit, stretched the material, dragged my nails across it and it’s not snagged so far. I think velcro would probably be the thing to snag it. Time will tell. I was told I could exchange it if it did snag but I’d rather it last because I really love this shirt.  I was extremely impressed by these tights also. Typically, even with my favourite run crops and high waisted tights I’m constantly pulling them up and readjusting during workouts but these stayed firmly in place the entire workout. I don’t know if it’s because the hip and upper thigh area is tighter, or maybe it’s a combination of tighter hip/waste area and looser quad area…. I don’t know but they stayed in place perfectly. As for warmth, I’d say these are as cool as my pace rivals but slightly warmer than my fast and frees.

We did more jerk drills today with the bar behind the neck. This is a light weight for me for clean and jerks but actually pretty heavy for the behind the neck portion of the drill. I went up 15lbs each side from this same drill on Tuesday.

Fit Review

Fit Review: Nike Power Epic Lux

by Cristina May 19, 2017
written by Cristina

I’m seriously impressed with the Nike items I stumbled upon this week and have so many reviews I’m working on. This post is specific to the run tights I tried on which is the Nike Power Epic Lux Run Tight. I first grabbed the printed Nike Power Epic Lux Run Tight at the top of this post thinking I would just try them on. The print isn’t really one I would gravitate to but I wanted something neutral I could try with all the different tops. This print is the one I ended up bringing home though because I found it very slimming and flattering. Something about the movement of the triangles around the leg, and the lighter colors strategically  placed. When you look closely at the print it’s actually muted ink blue, brownish grey, charcoal, white and varying tones of ice blue. In all of the three colors I tried on I found the lower leg seam detailing and contrasting especially flattering, as well as the upper but double seam and butt arch. These are all size L and they fit equivalent to other brands size 10, yet these are slightly more compressive and flattering. The material somehow disappears all my lumpy bits, even in the harsh lighting of this fitting room which would normally highlight every lump and bump.  I love the nice mid rise, wide waistband as well.

These tights come with all the bells and whistles run tights should come with; a sweat proof zippered gel pocket in the back with two open gel pockets around the top of the waist, flat seams, mesh ventilation, and a waist cinch. They are opaque, soft and silky and very cool feeling. The material is a nylon spandex blend which I’ve always found cooler than polyester blends. I’m going to be keeping an eye on the Nike Power Epic Lux Run Tights and I’ll be getting more colors and prints as they catch my eye. For now I purchased these printed ones but I also really love the Dark Raisin ones. The only reason I didn’t bite the bullet on the raisin ones is that I’ve purchased a few Black Grape tights already. The purples at Nike now, including the coordinating shoes, are incredible.
