Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Dressing Room Try-Ons Part 7 Jeans! I wasn’t sure I’d be able to get to the Nordstrom Vancouver store but for some reason, my kids were very keen to go. I think they were in the mood to try on Stella McCartney Metalic Platform Wedges again so they can pretend to be rockstars. Crazy kids! MOTHER The Looker Frayed Ankle Skinny Jean

These awesome jeans where a recommendation from a reader the day before the sale went live. I didn’t order them and hoped I’d get to see them in store on Sunday when I went to the Seattle store, but they weren’t in stock.  The Vancouver Nordstrom had them in today but they had a super limited size run. My size down was there so I grabbed it in hopes I could get an idea of how the jeans fit. I LOVE THEM! These are not classic jeans and they are not ‘dressy’ jeans but they are amazing every day, casual wear denim. The denim is this thick, incredibly soft cottony feeling denim, with a little bit of stretch. Canada is sold out of my size nationwide, and I think I may have preferred my usual size, however, on the site, the size I chose corresponds with my size in the size guide. I also did a poll online with people that have tried it on and it seems most people size down in Mother. I just love them and I love the soft pink jersey stripes on the sides. The top two photos here are true color representations but for some reason, that last photo is very washed out. Have you tried Mother Jeans before? How do you size in them?

AG The Farrah Ankle Skinny Jean (7 Years Astro Azure)

My usual AG Jeans are The Legging Ankle Skinny Jeans and I hadn’t had a chance to try on the Farrah yet. I didn’t think my favorites could be improved upon but man, these Farrah Skinny Jeans are even better. They are what I love about the Legging Ankle, but with a higher rise and a beautiful gradually darker blue that is very leg lengthening. I love that these have no distressing on them whatsoever, and the hems are finished off nicely. They are a bit long but not long enough that I feel the need to hem them right away. I usually like to do a few washes before I hem jeans anyways. I highly recommend the AG Farrah Ankles, especially if you are looking for a dark wash non-distressed pair of jeans. The whiskering on these may make them inappropriate for casual Fridays in a formal work environment, but they are dressy enough for going out in.  These are TTS.

AG Legging Ripped Ankle Skinny Jeans

This is another AG style that I hadn’t tried before. I was looking for non-distressed jeans to try on today and didn’t realize these were a distressed pair. I tried them on anyways. These are pretty much the same fit as my usual AG The Legging Ankle, but they have some design details at the ankle with the raw edge and notched cut on the outside of the ankle. The distressing on this pair isn’t too much since it’s not gaping open and doesn’t seem like it will run the risk of expanding into a large hole. I really love the wash of these and the fit. They are TTS.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2018 Dressing Room Try-Ons Part 6, Free People, Barefoot Dreams, Frame Denim. This one is a mixed bag, but I’d consider all of these casual wear so that’s the theme we are going with. Sorry this post is up so late. Right at the end of the upload post this afternoon my youngest daughter fell off a trampoline she’d been told she wasn’t allowed to be on. She broke her arm but it was a very small buckle fracture so thank goodness she doesn’t need a cast. That would have put an immediate end to swimming. Anways, three hours in the emergency room and lots of cuddles later, here we are. I think I have a few more sweater try-ons to share tomorrow.

Free People Found My Friend Sweater

The Found My Friend Sweater is this years Instagram and blogger favorite and you’ve probably seen it a zillion times in orchid pink, and slightly fewer times in sky blue already. I love Free People Sweaters and especially love their great vibrant pinks and odd Avante Garde shaped sweaters. I had a few rewards dollars kicking around form the 10 x point gift (a sorry for website issues on the first day of the sale) so buying this was a no-brainer. I feel like I need to give you a disclaimer on this one though because, despite the fact that I love it and it’s fun, this is a really odd fit, and a potentially problematic fit for most.  It photographs incredibly well and is a statement piece which is why you are seeing it everywhere (plus it’s the price point sweet spot), but in real life the shape isn’t that flattering. It’s wide, and short. Free People is often oversized and this shirt is definitely oversized but I would not size down in this unless you have a short torso, or don’t mind showing your belly button. I stayed TTS which is what you see here. It looks good because my arms are flattening the sides down. I’m definitely going to wear this and I love it but I think not everyone is going to be happy with the fit.  Fun sweater, great to grab on sale, especially if you have points to use.

Free People January Tee

Another type of Free People shirt I really like are these oversized ribbed scoop necks. The January Tee is the newest iteration of this theme. I tried a thermal version of the oversized tunic back in March but didn’t buy it, and regretted it a little. I prefer this top with a skinny jean, or better yet, tights.  For size reference, the lighter blue one ‘lilac’ is my TTS large, and the dark Navy blue is a size down. I would have grabbed the size down for sure because not only did it look like the right size, I think this ribbed material may relax and loosen with wear. I passed on it this time but I hope I can eventually find it on clearance.

Frame Denim 

I’m sorry but I’m not 100% sure on the style name of these Frame Jeans. When I went to check the info online they weren’t in stock. There is a grey pair and a dark blue pair but this is a dark washed-out grey that seems different from the colors online, but I think the style is the same so I link to the closest match. They are very stretchy, and very comfortable TTS. If you are a person that is used to wearing tights instead of jeans, these are the pair for you. They are so slimming! I really liked them on but they are not a contender for me because the color is not what I’m after this year (either a dark blue, a basic blue jean or a very dark black). I’m definitely going to consider these at next years NSALE.

Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Lite Circle Cardigan

I LOVE my Barefoot Dreams Circle Cardi that I got last year. I wear it all the time for travel, road trips, around the house with the air con on, to school drop off in the morning, the grocery store, the freezing cold movie theater. It’s a staple! It’s not fashionable, but sometimes you need a cozy sweater you can just grab and throw on. The material is an incredibly soft bamboo microfiber chenille. You just have to feel it to know how soft it is. It’s washed very well and held up hundreds of washes. Last year I really hoped for a black or grey color and this year there are two shades of grey that I’m loving. I size down to a medium in this and sadly, the medium was sold out in the store I went to so this picture is of the only size that was left, a large. I had ordered the large (which is still pending), but I realize it’s definitely too big and it’s going to need to go back. Hopefully, I can exchange it at the Vancouver Nordstrom for a medium in either the dark or light grey. This is a bit of a splurge for such a casual loungewear item but if you are considering getting a hoodie or a robe, get something like this instead.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2018 Fitting Room Try-Ons Part 4 – Coats and Jackets! The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Canada starts tomorrow for early access! If you have a Canadian Nordstrom Rewards Credit Card you can access the in-store sale. If you are far from a store, I believe you can still do phone orders for purchases as long as you have the card.  I’ve got more reviews coming tomorrow for activewear, and casual wear as well as jeans (and the Lululemon upload of course!). For the rest of you that have been waiting for public access in the US, I’ve heard a few times now from stores and customer service that they will, in fact, restock most items that sold out by the 20th. I’ve already seen many items replenished in sizes online, not just random 1 size pop-backs.

Badgley Mischka Double Face Wool Blend Wrap Coat

This was the coat I originally had on my wish list. The color is stunning and I was drawn to it but I was going to purchase it in camel. Both the camel and grey sold out pretty quickly. It will probably be restocked. At the Seattle store I saw this coat all by itself so I grabbed it to try on despite the fact that it was a size too small. I later saw full size runs in different departments so it’s not in danger of being sold out. This style of coat isn’t flattering to my curvy petite shape. It needs a bit more of a flare at the bottom and a slightly shorter length for it to work for me. This jacket comes in petite and extended sizes so it may have worked for me in a petite large but after trying it on I didn’t’ love the quality. The wool blend doesn’t have a nice weight to it and it’s pretty scratchy since it’s unlined.  You will definitely not want to wear this with a short sleeve underneath. A lining also helps your shirt sleeve slide in without dragging so it will be annoying having to deal with that issue. I could have forgiven the lack of lining if the wool was really great quality and high density but this was not love for me.

Darn! Sold out in all sizes in this color.

Ted Baker London Lizia Biker Jacket

This is such a showstopper of a leather jacket. The color is really a bright bubblegum pink with a hint of peach to it. It has stunning rose gold hardware with a pretty blue contrasting print lining. If I didn’t already have a leather jacket that I loved I would have been tempted to get this one. The sizing of Ted Baker London items is 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. 4 corresponds to size 12 and I would say that is accurate, but it’s short. This is a TTS jacket, but pretty cropped in length and I didn’t love how short it was so ultimately I would have opted for a different pink moto jacket with a longer cut, like maybe the All Saints Balfern. I would never wear a biker jacket like this zipped up but you definitely want to have the option to if you want to, and it’s also how I wear a leather jacket in when I first get it. Good leather will relax in high movement areas and the best way to get that process going is to zip it all the way up, and wear it around the house for a few hours. I am a 34DD bust size and I was able to comfortably zip all the way up, but if you are larger busted, or have a less shallow cup than I do then you will need to size up in this. Isn’t it cute though?

Mackage Double Face Wool Leather Belted Plaid Coat

If you are tall, you are so darn lucky. This jacket is just amazing but it’s way too long and overwhelming on me. I loved the print though and it was much more subtle and neutral in person than I expected it to be. I loved it online but I also thought the print was a bit wild for day to day use. Don’t be afraid of this print being too loud. It’s so pretty! It’s the Meghan Markle plaid coat (almost)! Mackage coats usually fit me one size too small but I guess because this coat is longer and flares out a bit it was more forgiving so this is TTS. I had a medium weight merino wool sweater underneath and it felt comfortable. You get two belt options with this, the matching plaid belt, or the wider leather belt. I’d wear the leather belt with it but I’d also break it in. It’s really stiff so the tie doesn’t sit right. It should soften up with a bit of work.

Mackage Water Repellent Down Jacket Plaid

I saw this jacket online in black briefly but didn’t notice it also comes in this matte plaid print as well. I LOVED the look of this jacket in store and it totally caught my eye. The store only had this one size which was small, and I’m a large. I had to grab it though for pictures to show you. This is heavy duty and way too warm for Vancouver. Even if it had been in my size, I’d struggle to justify this jacket. As I said above, Mackage coats and jackets fit small and are designed with a narrow hip in mind, so I always size up to an XL in Mackage, especially their down jackets.  That only seems to be possible at Nordstrom which carries a greater size range than anywhere else. Strangely though Mackage leather jackets fit me TTS but their wool coats, parkas and down puffers are very snug in an L for me. If you live somewhere cold, consider this awesome jacket.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2018 Fitting Room Try-Ons Part 3! Up in this post, the blazers! If you are looking for a review on the Veronica Beard Blazer, read this post here. It remains my #1 favorite from the sale, but there are some good contenders here in this post in nicer price points. Please also read the comments on the Veronica Beard post because reader opinions are mixed on it, which I find super helpful when reading reviews. I want to hear both sides, even if I still love an item.

I should mention, since we are talking sales, it’s Amazon Prime Day today. I’m not a prime member so not shopping this sale, but if you are looking for fitness gadgets or appliances, now is the time. If you have recommendations to share, post them in the comments.

J. Crew Dover Blazer

I really wanted to try on the Dover blazer in the bubble gum pink color, but the store I went to yesterday had just one size left and it was two sizes too big. Don’t worry about it being sold out though, it’s currently available online in most sizes if you are wanting it so you don’t have to hunt very hard to get it. The color is adorable and so fun, but when I tried on the Navy I thought I liked the navy a bit better for it’s versatility. The fit was spot on in my TTS and I would absolutely pick this blazer up at another time. I think if I had fallen in love with the pink over the navy I would have felt more of a ‘need to have it right now’ feeling, but navy is a color that will pop up again at some point. I think this is a great price for a fun blazer and it was my top pick from all the blazers I tried on. I do really love the pink and I can see it pairing with a lot of great combinations, but it’s such a statement color that for that reason I wouldn’t wear it as often as navy. I also don’t prefer a double-breasted button, and in the pink it’s obvious whereas the navy you don’t see the double-breasted closure.
