Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2018 Fitting Room Try-Ons Part 3! Up in this post, the blazers! If you are looking for a review on the Veronica Beard Blazer, read this post here. It remains my #1 favorite from the sale, but there are some good contenders here in this post in nicer price points. Please also read the comments on the Veronica Beard post because reader opinions are mixed on it, which I find super helpful when reading reviews. I want to hear both sides, even if I still love an item.
I should mention, since we are talking sales, it’s Amazon Prime Day today. I’m not a prime member so not shopping this sale, but if you are looking for fitness gadgets or appliances, now is the time. If you have recommendations to share, post them in the comments.
J. Crew Dover Blazer
I really wanted to try on the Dover blazer in the bubble gum pink color, but the store I went to yesterday had just one size left and it was two sizes too big. Don’t worry about it being sold out though, it’s currently available online in most sizes if you are wanting it so you don’t have to hunt very hard to get it. The color is adorable and so fun, but when I tried on the Navy I thought I liked the navy a bit better for it’s versatility. The fit was spot on in my TTS and I would absolutely pick this blazer up at another time. I think if I had fallen in love with the pink over the navy I would have felt more of a ‘need to have it right now’ feeling, but navy is a color that will pop up again at some point. I think this is a great price for a fun blazer and it was my top pick from all the blazers I tried on. I do really love the pink and I can see it pairing with a lot of great combinations, but it’s such a statement color that for that reason I wouldn’t wear it as often as navy. I also don’t prefer a double-breasted button, and in the pink it’s obvious whereas the navy you don’t see the double-breasted closure.
Frame Plaid Double Breasted Wool Blazer
This Frame Blazer is incredible quality for the price point and if this style suits your body type I think it’s a great investment piece. The color is really versatile with a subtle pattern that gives it interest, and the material is wonderful. I think this is a generous TTS but not a size down. I love how it flares out at the hem when it’s left open, and creates an indent at the waistline. This is too boxy a cut for my body type though and again, I don’t love double breasted on me. It’s beautiful and I highly recommend it if you are
Olivia Moon Cotton Blend Knit Blazer
The most casual of all the blazers! I tried to find the other casual James Perse cotton blazer but the store didn’t have it. I really like the upturned lapel on this style and I have another blazer that has this exact cut. It’s flattering if you are hippy because it directs your eyes up. I didn’t love this one in this color on me, but I liked it overall. It’s TTS. I would have loved this one in the pink that’s online or the black. I find this grey is too casual and sweatshirt like while the other colors are slightly more elegant. I think I’m too much in a preppy blazer mood to have preferred this one, but at another time in my life I would have definitely gravitated to this one. It’s so cute and I love the print of the lining peeping out in the cuff. The price point is fantastic on this and if you are thinking of getting a hoodie, don’t! Get this instead of a hoodie! You will look so stylish but you will feel like you are wearing a hoodie. I might get this at the end of season sales in November or January.
Up next, coats and jackets. If you are tired of reading ‘I liked this’ or ‘I loved this!’, you will enjoy the next post. There were several busts in that one including an item that was previously on my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Wish List.

I am DYING for the black Olivia Moon to come back in my size–it’s the perfect cut for this curvy girl! Love the gray on you but agree it doesn’t look as sharp as black would. Thanks so much for these recs! I need blazers in my life–always wear long cardis but need more variety.
It’s so cute, isn’t it? I hope you catch it on re-stock. So many items are popping in and out of stock constantly, and they come in stock in lots of sizes, not just lone sizes. Blazers are a great alternative to cardis. Thanks for reading!
Thank you! Did you size down or TTS? I can wear Medium on top usually–so wasn’t sure!
TTS for the Olivia Moon. I couldn’t have sizes down in this one while some of the other brands I could.
OK!! Thanks! If a L comes i’d take it, though! 🙂
Also interesting tidbit I didn’t know: I was chatting with someone from Nordstrom (via their web chat) and she told me they can’t shop til Friday, when the public can shop! Also she suggested to check back Friday on the blazer, if it hasn’t popped up. I had asked about the sea salt and black striped shirt was on the model! Can’t find it and neither could she but I love the pairing!
I actually just read that they are expecting restocks on most items by the 20th, so that jives with what the web chat service rep told you.
Fab! I’ll keep my eyes open then 🙂 It’s too hot to wear now, anyway–but the price is right!
random comment: a few months ago i chatted with CS to find out what sunglasses were on the cover of one of their catalogues. after several minutes of looking, she told me that she could not find it and that they must have belonged to the model. i found it quite funny… they were on THE COVER. they should share model contact info if they are going to advertise the models’ personal wardrobes… i want those dang glasses! they are probably forever 21. LOL.
FYI Amazon Prime Day site has crashed, so I’m here enjoying your try on reports! Thanks for all your pictures.
Haha! I saw that! Sheesh! What a week of shopping anxiety. I know a lot of people that ordered the NSALE first thing on Thursday still have orders pending. I’ll have more posts up later tonight but I have to get my kids into a pool for the afternoon.
The J. Crew blazer is exactly what comes to mind when you discuss classic wardrobe staples. This is an excellent example. The navy one is way too small in the shoulders. They should not bunch up like that. The pink one looks much better in the shoulders but it’s too big in the body. Maybe the size in between is what you need.
The plaid one looks more businesslike, too formal for your stated goal of wearing a blazer with a nice t-shirt and jeans.
The knit one is very cute but I agree the gray color is too sweatshirt like. (Also, your hair is covering up the lapels you are talking about so I had to see the professionally modeled pics to see that feature.)
Of all these, plus the one in your previous post, I definitely think the J. Crew blazer in your correct size (neither which is pictured here) is the one to invest your money in.
I’m surprised you say the navy one is too small in the shoulders. The seam is right at the end of my shoulder bone and sticks out a bit. A size up would put that seam even further off my shoulder.
It is too tight around your upper arms and not wide enough for your shoulders. Look at how the shoulder pads don’t sit unobtrusively around your shoulders. There’s not enough room between them so they are pushed up. Look at both arms, including the one that is not holding your phone.
Contrast that with the shoulders of the pink one. Maybe it’s too big in that area — can’t tell from the photos–but the shoulder pads are definitely not pushed up in the air. Also look at the model photos and see how the jacket fits nicely around the shoulders, no pads up in the air.
I think you’d really rock the pink on in the correct size. But yeah, the navy is more versatile.
yah, I mean, you can nitpick fit to get a really exquisite fit if you work in a formal corporate environment but for the purpose of throwing on over a tee shirt to go to the movies, I think this is as ideal a size as I can get off the rack. My husband gets his suits made by a tailor so I know how hard it is to balance a suit correctly for fit plus have it look proportionally correct for your body. When you are petite curvy, it’s not as simple as sizing up to accommodate for narrowness in the arms. When you add too much material in the torso and it gets boxy, it swallows you up and makes you look shorter and wider. I get basic styling rules but it’s not straightforward for my body type and it doesn’t always easily apply, Don’t get me wrong, I do really appreciate the sizing guidance and what to look for on fit in a jacket but the pink one was very large on me. Ignoring the number on the tag, because I vary four different sizes from brand to brand, the jacket wrapped around to each side of me into my armpits, and made me look wide and short.
Agreed–navy is too small in shoulders. Size between is probably your best bet.
Thanks! I did not purchase the J Crew blazer but really liked it in both colors.
