Fit Review Dark Forest Define Jacket, Train Time Crops

by Cristina May 2, 2017
written by Cristina

I do not need a new Define Jacket and was all set to pass on this dark forest one since I purchased quicksand last week, and thought I favoured that color. When I tried it on though, the color was too gorgeous to pass up on. I love both colors but I think dark forest is slightly more contrasted on me and makes my features stand out more, where as quicksand was a bit more subdued. What do you guys think?

I tried on these Train Time Crops in my TTS 10 and they where slightly snug coming on. I think the material is just more compressive but there may also be a double layer of fabric in the rear – sorry, I should have looked more closely at that. I have featherlight tights which I got on markdown and those have the double layer of fabric in the rear. I don’t mind it on those since I got them on markdown but I find it a bit too hot and I don’t want to have that double layer in my crops.  I passed on these for now but I do really like crops in dark forest so I may consider getting a different pair of crops in this color.

Fit Review Enlite Bra

by Cristina May 2, 2017
written by Cristina

Behold! Mom-bod. Losing all ego here and posting these photos to give you a proper fit review of the new Enlite Bra. My credentials as a bra reviewer are not as a large busted female. I am a 34D/DD and have never had problems finding a supportive enough bra like many of you have. I do need support and coverage, but not heavy duty support, and I’m not in outlier sizes. Keep that in mind, but also know that I love bras and am a little bit of a bra-fit nerd. I know my stuff! I’m going to be absolutely brutal in this review but the caveat is that I actually really like this bra and have ordered my correct size online to try out for a workout. There are major flaws in the design though and I do hope there is a second version with improvements in it.

As I mentioned above, I’ve been properly sized as a 34D/DD in standard bra brands so I was very curious to see what size I was fit in for this lululemon sports bra. My measurement was taken in between my breast for depth (bra on, base of sternum to outer edge of bra cup) which is the centre gore, and around my ribcage. This is different to how I’ve been bra measured in the past. On the lululemon chart this put me at 32E, and its alternative size was 34D. My store did not have 32 E in stock in any of the colors so I was not able to try that size on for accuracy, but they did have both 34D and 34DD. 34DD fit me best. I’ve ordered the 32E but I expect that I will prefer the 34DD as the band was quite tight and hard to get on in that size.

This bra is a PAIN in the ass to put on and I’m really shocked that this wasn’t a major issue for them in the production stages, or with their pool of 80 testers. I am extremely flexible and strong in the shoulders (naturally, and thanks to olympic lifting) and so I never have a problem clasping a bra from behind. This is how I’ve always clasped my bras my entire life while at least half of women clasp their bras in the front and then spin them to the back and pull their arms through the straps. The design of this bra prevents you from strapping it on in this way at all because you have to pull it on overhead. That actually creates two excluding mobility issues – the pulling it on overhead movement, and the reaching to the back and clasping a very tight band. If you have any mobility issues in your shoulders (which many athletes do), you will not be able to get this bra on on your own. As I said, I am extremely flexible and I could not clasp this bra together because there was just so much tension in the band. The tension is great because the majority of the support in this bra comes from the band, and actually once it’s on it doesn’t feel super tight, it just feel supportive. I actually had to have an educator come in and clasp it for me, as did the other women trying this bra on at the same time as me. When the bra was secured, it didn’t feel tight anywhere and there was no pulling. The bra gave a nice shape and silhouette to the bust and nice lift, even under a tee shirt. I was worried about this because the bra cups are ‘formed cups’ and I have shallow breast tissue so I don’t always fill this style of bra up even though I’m a 34D.

Enlite Bra

I was impressed that there is some really nice lift from the bottom of the breast. The straps on my shoulders didn’t feel tight at all and there was no pulling at the neck.

You definitely get two encapsulated and lifted breasts.

Besides the horrible time getting this bra actually on, the second issue with this bra is its seamless design. The hook and eye closure in the back is under way too much tension with such a tight band to not have a tightly stitched hook and eye closure. While pulling the straps together there is so much strain on the little hook and eye closures and they don’t seem to be firmly stitched in.  This is the biggest flaw of this bra and one they will potentially have problems with in terms of ‘defective’ returns. In order for them to claim ‘seamless design’ which is an unnecessary and overrated feature in my opinion, they’ve sacrificed a major component of this bra so that it will function properly. While trying on the 34D and attempting to hook the two ends together, the ‘eye’ popped out of the bra!!! A good bra gets a large portion of it’s support and structure from it’s seams! I don’t think the Ta Ta Tamer was ever avoided or negatively reviewed because of it’s seams.  I think they could have had some areas of the bra as seamless, and created beautifully tailored seams at the gore and at the clasp area. To be honestly though I’m not crazy about the laser cut edges either. Those unfinished laser cut edges all seem to look a bit frayed. If they married the wonderful seam detailing and finishing of the Ta Ta Tamer with this Enlite Bra, you would have the most amazing sports bra ever. As far as supportiveness I definitely felt very supported with little movement, but total comfort. I’d love to see this bra with a lower cut front, and regular bra straps in the back. The width and spread of the back straps really pushed out my underarm fat and I didn’t feel like I was getting all that much support from the extra straps. Despite cutting in to the lats area and causing bulging out, I didn’t actually feel the straps cutting in.

This bra, being that it is a ‘heavy duty supportive sports bra’ needed to come in in a wider size range. I can see how that would be very challenging to create for it’s risky first run, but hopefully in future versions of this bra there will be a wider range of sizes.

**Update, the recommended size 32E just arrived and it is way too small. The two straps are not even close to being close enough to join together. For me, the correct sizing is same band I normally take in a bra, but one cup size larger. **

Nothing for me today (yet!) but I am interested in the Dark Forest Swiftly LS and Define Jacket, and I really love Aero Blue. I wish Canada had gotten the Aero Blue Cool Racerback. I’m going to the store very  shortly and hope to get a fit report in for the new Enlite Bra. I have high expectations for this bra and I’m really excited to try it on.

Aerial Drift is such a pretty print and I’m loving it amongst dark forest and aero blue. I don’t think I want a pair of crops or tights in these, although I would consider it more strongly if the Fast & Free Crops come in this print. Even better for me would be a UV short sleeve or tank in this print.

Fit Review Well Being Sweater

by Cristina April 30, 2017
written by Cristina

I’ve been so curious about this new Well Being Sweater, because I love the way the heathered vapour color coordinates with the beautiful purples that are out now, and love that the back has is an open waffle weave. I found it fit really wide in the chest and underarms area though so I would consider sizing down in this, but the oversized look doesn’t look bad, it just looks really casual and laid back.  I think I would more strongly consider purchasing this sweater if it comes in quicksand, or deep forest. This is size 10 on me and I take a 10 in jackets, tanks and sweaters at Lululemon.

Olympic Lifting OOTD

by Cristina April 29, 2017
written by Cristina

Sorry I didn’t get a good video for today’s post from Olympic lifting. Today is mosty just going to be an OOTD of my new Black Grape Pace Rivals in action. Our focus today was on a lot of mobility work, hyper extensions, holding positions in the lift for unbearably long periods of time to develop stamina and then we did front squats. Really great class, just not an opportunity to capture some big lifts. I really needed this workout today to take my mind off things. Last night there was a really terrible and tragic accident that happened very local to me and it was one of those news headlines that really stay in your head, and you just can’t shake the feeling away. I’ve been avoiding reading about it but it’s been impossible, and it’s been giving me real anxiety – so, loud music, busy chores and a workout that requires concentration is exactly what I needed this morning.

These top two photos where of some ankle and calf stretching. In olympic lifting you need really, really good ankle flexibility. Everyone focuses on the shoulders (it IS important) but the ankles and calves are what keep your knees tracking correctly. I had been having knee pain last year but it’s been several months since I’ve had any knee issues at all, and my flexibility has increased quite a bit.

Brand Obsession Alpha Industries Jackets

by Cristina April 28, 2017
written by Cristina

I’ve recently fallen in love with Alpha Industries jackets and what first tipped off the obsession was the  Lululemon Non Stop Bomber Jacket. I really loved the idea of the Non Stop Bomber Jacket but it was doing nothing for me. I actually purchased that jacket, returned it, purchased it again and returned it again. I decided I liked the bomber style, but I wanted a more authentic version and so I did some research and learned that ‘the’ brand for bomber jackets is Alpha Industries which was the original maker of bomber jackets for the US military. This brand is sold at a variety of retailers such as Asos, Revolve, Nordstrom, Urban Outfitters. As soon as I saw it I immediately remembered my absolute obsession with the original M-1 Bomber Jacket with it’s iconic orange liner and gold zipper from back in the 90’s . I was in high school then and really into Doc Martins and Nirvana. I so desperately wanted that jacket but it wasn’t easily found in Vancouver unless you went to military supply stores.

I tried on the M-1 Bomber and fell in absolute love with it. It was everything I loved about other fashiony bomber jackets I tried on,  but more substantial, more edgy, warmer and more of a true jacket. I’ve been wearing that jacket for months and I get tons of compliments on it from both guys and girls. It’s such a warm jacket that I think it’s now officially put away for Fall/Winter, but I really love wearing it.

More recently I found the L2 B Scout Bomber Jacket on sale, and so I picked that one up because I loved the pink color, and love that I can wear it in warmer weather. It’s a slimmer and more narrow fit than the M-1 Jacket, but it’s still roomy. I take an M in all of the Alpha Industries Jacket I’ve tried on so far.

Today I fell in love with a new Alpha Jacket, and I’ve been thinking about it ever since I left the store this morning. The woodland camo M-65 trooper jacket. On the hangar I thought for sure I wouldn’t like it. These trooper jackets always call to me but when I try them on they swallow me up and look hideous. For some reason, the cut of this jacket works really well for me. I think it’s because while it’s boxy, it hits at the right length and is more structured and tailored. The proportions of the pockets, the collar, the detailing in the cuff – the proportions on all these features are just perfect. There are so many details on this jacket and really nice features such as hidden pockets, adjustable cuffs, and a stowaway hood. I’m actually glad I left this behind in store today because I’ve found it online for cheaper, which is the push I need to order it.

The First Look At Seawheeze 2017 Registration Shorts

by Cristina April 28, 2017
written by Cristina

The Seawheeze 2017 registration shorts are finally being delivered this week and lovely reader Ms. M has sent us these great photos of her shorts. This years theme is 1960’s counter culture and as you can tell they went with psychedelic art with fractals, hippy inspired flowers and icons from that era.

What do you guys think of the theme, and the shorts?

A sneaky upload on the Lululemon Canada and US website of two new Rulu  Vinyasa Scarves, Heathered Black Grape and Tonka Striped Heathered Slate. Hasn’t it been ages since Lululemon released a pretty rulu vinyasa? I bet you both of these are especially soft Rulu.

Enlite Bra

by Cristina April 27, 2017
written by Cristina

Lululemon is launching a brand new high impact sports bra specifically engineered for large-ish cup sizes up to 36E/38DD requiring strong support. The bra launches on May 2, but a few have already gotten the opportunity to try this bra on ahead of the launch, including being fitted for their size. What intrigues me about this bra is that it has individual shaped cups that promises to give you a more natural shape with separate encapsulated breasts. Encapsulated breasts is a big selling feature for me as I have very easily flattened breasts in sports bras. I hate sports bras that smash me down! Apparently this bra comes with bra fitting sessions which educators have been trained on, to help you select your ideal size. I’m curious to see if I size the same as my standard bra sizing of 34D.

The bra is made of Ultralu and it has bonded seams and hook closure. Initial reports are that it’s priced at $98, and that the bra fitting suggestions are not necessarily correct – so trial and error with the fitting. I’m not at all bothered by the price tag on this if this is in fact a really great sports bra. I spend a lot on really good bras and a great Wacoal or Chantelle sports bra will run you this price.

Have you tried this bra on yet? What are your thoughts?

I’m not crazy about the strap action in the back. Especially since the straps appear to be bonded seams and I find those really sharp on tight fitting bras. I have an open mind for this though and I’m eager to try it out.
