How To Wear Combat Boots

Black Combat Boots Women’s - Dresses - Jeans - Blazers

How to wear combat boots is top of mind for me since I went ahead and ordered the All Saints boots. I really wanted to know how to style my new combat boots so I could determine if they are keepers or not. My NSALE purchases HAVE to have absolute closet versatility, and they have to be worn consistently.

My NSALE Purchases – Black Leather Combat Boots, Black Leather Chelsea Boots

I’m sharing my NSALE purchases at the bottom of this post by the way. Actually, I purchased two boots. A second pair of boots is on the way as an alternative. Just in case these ones don’t work for me. I’ll only be keeping one pair, and I suspect it’s going to be the black combat boots.

To justify this splurge, I’m using the boots as motivation to get back to wearing proper ‘outfits’. Have we all fallen way off track lately with stylish outfits, or just me?  I’m sure most of us who work from home have gotten into the same rut. Well, no more I say! It’s time to look cute when I pick up my morning coffee.

Are you needing some combat boot outfit inspo? I put together these looks from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, for you and me.

7 Ways to style these boots using #NSALE Best Sellers as inspiration

#1

Combat boot and dress combos are totally 90’s. Breakfast Club inspired, it’s an absolutely adorable look.

Equally cute, you could do a more modern bodycon dress. Maybe a Kardashian/Marilyn inspired look? Needless to say, there are several different ways you can pull off this trend so that it’s fresh. .

What kinds of dresses can you wear with combat boots?

In the same way, it works equally well styling combat boots with dress that is a different style.

Try a bodycon dress, or even a midi length fit and flare dress. That can work just as well as with this mini dress.

The idea is a juxtaposition between rugged combat boots and feminine outfits.  Actually, that’s the idea with many of these outfits. Evidently, they all follow this same method. Glam + Rugged, Sophisticated + Rugged, and Feminine + Rugged.

#2

Pairing jeans with combat boots and adding on a chunky knit sweater gives this a sporty, sophisticated vibe. Similarly, you could add this same chunky knit with the leggings look further down. Of course, the cowel neck detail of this sweater also adds to the sophistication element. .

I want to recreate this look immediately

I’d like to add this entire look to my shopping cart, especially that sweater. The sweater is on my wish list in hopes that the Canadian Nordstrom Anniversary Sale will have it in stock. Of course, my budget is no longer accommodating my growing wish list.

#3

Classic wool coats with military inspired buttons are a natural pairing. At the same time, it can look a bit too ‘on the nose’. Especially with a jacket that has these military design inspirations.

The asethcis of this look really appears to me though so in spite of the risk of being too ‘on the nose’, I’d rather just change something else up in the outfit to make it work.

Why this works

In my opinion, this works because I changed up the color of the shoes. I swapped out the classic black combat boots for a tan shearling style. .

#4

The goal was to get out of my jogger rut. But, in this case, I couldn’t stray from my ol’ friend Joggers. Not for too long at least. Despite the casual pant, we can at least elevate them with a pretty feminine top and accessories the outfit with jewelry. Not only can this outfit work with the tan boots shown, it works with the black boots as well. In addition to a pretty top, I paired it with a layered gold necklace.

#5

Long duster cardigans are almost as  comforting to me as joggers. Clearly I gravitate to comfort. Despite my creature comforts, we can definitely elevate this. ‘But Make it Fashion!’

Alternatively you can pair a long cardigan with leggings, or a slim streamlined jogger.

#6

You want a Black faux leather leggings, or a really nice pair of lululemon leggings for this look. While the combat boots are rugged, you want a bit of glam so definitely go for a legging with sheen and structure.

Your top options:

Wear it with a simple neutral top, or alternately you can pare it with an oversized chunky knit sweater. Or, again, reverting to our old ways: opt for an oversized hoodie. For a model off duty at the airport at 5am look.

#7

Boyfriend fit blazers with a feminine girly top and rugged combat boots. Be still my heart. Certainly you can wear slim legged jeans with this look. However, I really like the boyfriend style here. Indeed the boyfriend style is a challenge to style with a boxy blazer but there are tricks:

Styling with baggy jeans tips

The fit and styling of the jeans is critical here. Defintely cuff the bottoms if they are too long, otherwise they will go over the boot. The entire shaft of the shoe should be uncovered, and a few inches of your leg.

My Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Haul (So Far)

Ultimately I broke down and placed an order off the US side, to be picked from my P.O. box. Because I wasn’t sure if the item I really wanted would be available in Canada, I opted to go for it. I think my calculations are correct and the pricing isn’t much different. Additionally, the shipping is free.  On the whole, I’m glad I pulled the trigger. Of course, looking at the Canadian Anniversary Sale Preview,  my items will not be available in Canada when the sale goes live.

Thank you for this post about combat boots with ideas on how to wear them. This will probably make me sound dumb, but I realized while I was reading through the outfit inspirations that I bought a pair of combat boots last year. They are a chestnut brown suede and I guess I always think of combat boots as black, so it never dawned on me that the combat boot is more of a style and not an exact match for black Doc Martens. I bought the brown ones because I saw them on someone else and thought they were adorable.

I have some great ideas of how to wear them when the weather gets cold again. 🙂

I’m so happy you liked the post! Great choice getting chestnut brown. Such a versatile color choice. Tan and Chestnut are both really great neutrals.
