Fitting Room Try-Ons at Anthropologie: The Embroidered Peasant Blouse Trend

by Cristina

I LOVE The Embroidered Peasant Blouse Trend. It just suits my casual vibe so well. I love a pretty, feminine, eye-catching embroidered detailing and I love a cool and airy top that’s perfect for summer. I’ve always loved embroidery detailing so this is a trend I’m fully on board with and will wear the hell out of it for this spring/summer season, and wear it year after year whether or not it’s on trend.

Fun fact about me. I also used to really love Anthropologie. I loved it so much that I started a blog for it alongside my lulumum blog. It was so hard tending to two separate blogs though (one for fitness apparel and one for Anthropologie items) and then if I loved another brand where did I share that info on? I’m really glad that I’ve evolved this blog over the past few years into something that is much more me and encompasses all of my fashion interests, athletic or otherwise. I’ve really been enjoying sharing different content alongside the fitness stuff. And I love that we now have Mrs. O contributing her fashion interests as well!

This fitting room try-on at Anthropologie was done on two separate trips. I managed to stop in yesterday after my mother’s day brunch because the store was right across from the restaurant, and they had a sale going on. And my husband and kids were feeling indulgent.

This top caught my eye, and I grabbed it, put it down, grabbed it, decided I wasn’t going to get it, decided I would, the lineup was too long so I put it back. I put it back because the one I tried on was a slightly too small for me (it was a 10, I typically go between a 10 and 12 at anthro). The reviews online say this top fits small and very snug in the arms and I would say that’s true based on the size too small I tried on. It wasn’t uncomfortably snug in the arms but I felt like for summer I’d probably want a bit of extra movement and looseness. It was definitely a tad shorter than I prefer though so the 12 would have been the right size. Unfortunately, the store was sold out of 12’s, and when I got home to check online it was sold out of all sizes. I was able to locate a 14 after patient online stocking (bookmark any of these tops if they are sold out, but you want them. They keep popping in and out of sizes, even after a month). I’m worried that the size up will be too big and boxy so it may be a return once it arrives, but the 12 hasn’t popped up online yet. This top is cotton which is lovely for summer, and the colors are so vibrant and beautiful. I often get fixated on design details and lately it’s been the combination of green and pink (Remember this dress?). I’ve also been fixated on paint splatter prints and polka dots, and black and white embroidery. This blouse was my top pick from yesterdays try-ons.

** update! The size 14 just arrived and it fits perfectly. I’m actually really surprised it’s a 14 because it’s not much different from the 10. Slightly longer and the sleeves are perfect. I’d be curious to see how the 12 fits in comparison since the shift between 10 and 14 is so slight. I definitely recommend sizing up in this since it doesn’t look oversized or boxy like I worried it would.

Anthropologie Adelina Embroidered Blouse

This top was my TTS 12 and I although I didn’t absolutely fall in love with it on the hangar, it had that black/white contrast embroidery I like so much so I grabbed it. The fit was very flattering on. That deep v and flutter sleeve really brings the eye up to the bust line and away from a pear shape. I’m not sure why this top didn’t make the final cut for me at checkout other than I really gravitated to the green one. This is something I’ve bookmarked for markdown watch though. By the way, I use Shoptagr for sale alerts.

This top is GORGEOUS! I tried it on in Dallas and it’s still available online. I’d say this one was a top pick, except for the price. The price point is slightly higher than all the other tops I’ve tried on so I definitely need this one to go on sale – but I love it.  This was a size 10 and it fit just fine.

This is another top I tried on in Dallas. I fell in love with it but didn’t want to pay USD prices on it while on vacation (and spending on other things like meals and transportation). I figured I’d check to see if the Canadian stores had it, but when I did, I saw that it was sold out everywhere. It’s since popped back online though so I want to snatch it up. The reason I love this top so much is that it’s identical to a short sleeve blouse I got from anthro two years ago (I wear it a ton). The embroidery and background is all the same (natural white with contrasted black embroidery), the only difference is this is the cami version and it has cute little pom poms at the bottom. The size 10 fit fine, as did the 12. I was pretty torn on sizing. I think I’d go with a 10 (12 shown here) because the straps were just right.

Madewell Embroidered Fable Top

This top was one I got from my last Pretty Flowey Tops For Summer post, although I tried it on in another colorway.  Again, I didn’t purchase it in store but then later regretted it. When I saw that it was on sale online I went ahead and ordered it. I ended up finding out I had a credit at Nordstrom (over paid my Nordstrom card at some point) so that made it an easy decision. This is a size L, and it fits a bit oversized. I like the size though because it makes it a super cool and breezy shirt. I love that I can dress it up with jeans and these pretty wedges (purchased here), or denim shorts and flip-flops. I wore it both ways this weekend and felt really casual yet put together.

So that’s it! Lots of peasant top options to wear to all those summer BBQ’s and while out on vacation, or while imagining you are on vacation somewhere.

Lots of cute options and I also loved the embroidery on summer tops. My favorite
is the Adelina (that didn’t make the cut), but the ones you chose looked great too.

Lots of choices for you for sure! R u going to continue to do fit reviews on lulu clothing items? How did the dress you ordered from lulu work out?

Absolutely! I’m always trying on Lululemon items and follow the uploads and Lulu news like a hawk. The dress was terrible on me so I didn’t want to post, plus I ordered black and couldn’t get a good detail picture of the problem areas. I think it will be nice for specific body types but for me, even sizing up I definitely still needed spanx. It was a combination of loose-fitting, yet clingy so I could see underwear lines and my belly button to the point I just wasn’t comfortable wearing it without spanx.

Those tops look really cute on you. I agree about dress…it is good for very thin slender barbie figures…i have a tiny mummy tummy so a no go for me. I also think the dress is so plain and so many stores offer same style for a fraction of cost. I wont buy casual clothes just because it has a lulu symbol on it. But to each their own. Love your blog…always look forward to reviews of lulu and other brands.

Such a good point about the dress being plain. Not that that’s a bad thing, but it does make me really hesitant to purchase it when I can find something more flattering for my body type elsewhere that doesn’t require additional layering. I really love my assonance dress from artizia and I find that very flattering on me. It’s slightly more affordable and hits the same casual summer look. The lighter colors are a no go for me but black, navy and dark grey are perfect.

Thanks for the love!

I love Anthropologie and look forward to seeing more posts from this store. I have to say I love everything you tried on. My favs for what I thought looked best on you were the Adelina and Bissbee, simply gorgeous and unique. What I love about Anthropologie is the uniqueness of their clothing that you don’t see anywhere else. I bought a blouse there about a month ago that I can’t wait to wear this summer. It’s a long sleeve flowy blouse with little butterflies all over it, white background with green, pink and yellow, very summery! I really enjoyed this fit review, thanks Cristina.

Thanks so much for enjoying the fit review! I’m glad it was a topic you liked.
I know I can’t stop thinking about that bisbee top. I’m trying to hold strong and wait for a markdown. Unfortunately, it was sold out online when they had the 20% off on Sunday, but it popped back up the next day of course.

So you must buy from the US website? Lucky you having a US address. I wish they had a Canadian online site. Too bad it’s not your birthday month so you could use the b’day discount. Mine is July so I always check to what’s in store then. If I find something I like it’s hard not to buy it then because my size sells out fast. Good Luck!

I do have a US address I use sometimes but only if I save a lot in shipping. these days I’m enjoying it a lot because I fill up on gas (.96/litre or less across the border vs. our 1.63/litre). Sometimes it’s worth it just to pay the shipping to Canada and I weigh saving myself an extra $10 vs. the cost of driving out to pick up mail. Anthro does ship to Canada and I’ve opted for the Canada shipping before instead of US, same with Nordstrom. BUT, for my Canadian shoppers, I highly recommend calling the Canadian store locations to see if they have a particular item in store, because the stores will ship to you for free. I’ve done this at Nordstrom and Anthro.

Those tops you picked are beautiful! The green and white with yellow one is very summery. I love the second to the last one (Victoria cami) as it seems it’ll match with so many things!

I love Anthropologie and lulu too. Sigh at the spendings.

I love the embroidery top trend too but I have never seen an option I like on me. The Victorian tank (white with black design) is my fave on here. Will see if my Anthro has it

I know exactly what you mean. You definitely have to try on a variety of cuts. I think Madewell has been my most favorite because it blends the boho/embroidery look into really wearable styles with nice clean lines.

I’m with you Sahdowy_Lady. I can never seem to find an embroidered top that looks right on me. I’ll have to revisit Anthropologie and check out Madewell.

I love, love the Perennial Blouse, Bisbee Embroidered Top and Embroidered Fable Top. Definitely go with the 10 in the Victoria Embroidered Cami. I think the size up adds to your waist when I know you don’t have a big waist. Here’s hoping the Bisbee gets marked down ASAP so you can get it!
