Quite by accident I discovered two new loves that I thought I’d share with my fellow quarantine champions. This week I had some Fun With Natural Indigo Shibori Tie Dying During Shelter In Place!
First discovery, This Lululemon tee. It is THE BEST Lululemon Basic White Tee. This item was totally off my radar, but I was in search of a white lululemon tee to bravely hand-dye.
I had already dyed several old items in my closet (things with stains and holes that I didn’t mind sacrificing) thanks to the current tie-dye trend and my tweens wanting to try it for TikTok. I fell in love with the results even though I did have a few fails. I was ready to go big with a brand new white Lululemon tee. For some reason I didn’t want the standard Love Tee. I wanted something that would match the style of the project. This oversized boxy shape really called to me and I’m so glad I took a chance on it because I am in love with it, even without the dye job. It’s perfection.
Discovery #2. In tie-dying with my kids I went down a rabbit hole and learned about the natural indigo dying process (and a little bit about cochineal). There is a small local business that specializes in natural dyes so I got a little kit from them and was blown away by the results. This is what home schooling should actually be because there is a lot of chemistry to be learned with natural dying. It’s a very finicky and time consuming process but the dye has so much depth and varying tones that you can see the difference right away between chemical dye and natural dye. It’s just beautiful! I used a shibori process for the bottom tee, and I did a gradient ombre effect for this top tee. I think the top tee was dipped about 30 times.
Tie-dye may not be your thing but I really treasure these two tees and am so excited about the results.

Shop The Tee Here
The tee is a very generous oversized boxy fit and the sizing is S, M, L so it’s definitely confusing. I ordered the Medium for the top photo which I would consider my TTS. I take a 10 in most Lululemon items. The bottom photo is a Small. I like how both fit and ended up keeping both. If I was to order it again I would go for a small but wouldn’t sweat it if only a medium was available. The tee also looks really great with jeans with the front hem tucked in, and the back hem left out.

Goal Smasher Jacket – Carnation Red
Shop This Jacket Here
I’ve already reviewed this jacket here in my TTS so I’ll just share that this one is a size up. I wanted to share a true color picture of this jacket and describe the color to you. It is a bright, neon tomato coral red. If you hate tomato reds you may not like this. I used to not like tomato reds but discovered that it’s actually the most flattering red tone for me. I have another shirt in this shade and I always get compliments on the color. I really gravitate to it now. This is a high intensity color so if you like to blend in, you will be out of your comfort zone.
I love the satin finish of this jacket and the overall look so much that this is a jacket I would love in black as much as I love it in the pink and red. That’s when I know a design is great!

Hi Cristina! What fun thing to do during quarantine! I thought I would recommend another blog to you that has a lot of DIY that I think you would enjoy. The blogger recently dyed a silk slip dress with tissue paper and it turned out beautifully in my opinion. The blog is called HonestlyWTF. 🙂 Have a great day!
Thanks so much for the recommendation. I actually had already found her blog when looking for instructions for tie-dye and loved her posts.
