Vegan overnight oats - healthy high protein overnight oats for runners

This Bearfoot Bistro Vegan Overnight Oats recipe is a healthy high protein version created for runners. This is the healthy vegan overnight oats that non-vegans loved!  It was originally published here in 2017, with permission, to share that years Seawheeze Runners Brunch. See the original post here.

Bearfoot Bistro Vegan Overnight Oatmeal

I love this overnight vegan oatmeal recipes from Bearfoot Bistro I got after the Seawheeze half marathon.

I use this recipe vegan overnight oats healthy base, and customize it with a variety of different flavours, toppings and spices. The coconut yogurt really give these oats a dynamic flavour, and the fact that it’s dairy free and vegan is a bonus.

I make this Vegan Overnight Oatmeal recipe really often but I had completely forgotten that it originated from the Seawheeze Runners Brunch which was catered by Bearfoot Bistro until I saw it recently in my posts feed. I decided to republish this recipe for those of you who may have missed it, or if you are looking for healthy breakfast ideas for January.

Breakfast is always such a hassle. I hate eating breakfast and never know what to make if I’m planning it on the fly in the morning. I love that I can make this ahead of time. I’ll be making larger batches of this for the four of us, and I think I’ll make the kids responsible for their own flavours to add.

Let me know if you guys make this Vegan Overnight Oatmeal recipe, or if you remember trying it at the Seawheeze Runners Brunch in 2017!

Spinach Artichoke Dip Recipe

My Restaurant Quality Spinach Artichoke Dip Recipe

Merry Christmas!! Today I’m sharing my famous Christmas Eve Spinach Artichoke Dip with you guys!

I hope you are all having  a Merry Christmas these strange days regardless of COVID measures,  and enjoying the holidays as much as possible. Things are definitely different for us this year in how we are celebrating as a result of the local COVID measures. Currently we are in very strict lockdown for Christmas and New Years. Presently, family gatherings are not allowed until January 8th. I’m not going to lie. It really sucks and we are all bummed out about it.

How we usually celebrate

Hosting our big Christmas Eve party is something I’m really missing. Right now I would be cleaning the house like a madwoman and pre-preparing foods for tomorrow, having little explosive meltdowns. You know how that goes. After that I’d be staying up most of the night wrapping gifts.  Of course, I’m not missing the stress of the big festivities but I do miss the excitement. We always spend Christmas with the entire extended family, both sides. Enduring that awkward commingling, those two relatives that always clash, the overly ‘festive’ guests, all those gossipy highlights… all of that is magical and bonding.

This Spinach Artichoke Dip is a favourite at our Christmas Eve Parties which is why I wanted to share it with you guys. That way, if you do make it, it’s’ sort of like we are celebrating together.

This year will be quiet with just the four of us for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dinner. I’m still going to be doing appetizers for us on Christmas Eve, which we will enjoy while watching holiday movies and listening to Christmas music.  I wanted to share my family favourite recipe with you guys in case you needed some inspiration. This Spinach Artichoke Dip Recipe is really the best!

The Dip

My kids LOVE ordering Spinach Artichoke Dip at every restaurant we go to and they haven’t been able to enjoy that treat in over a year now, so they are really looking forward to this tomorrow. This recipe combines my favourite elements from a few different versions we’ve tried around town, and it’s really simple to make.  I serve it with tortilla chips, warmed pita bread, or sliced baguette, depending on what I have on hand. I also double the recipe for our Christmas Eve party, divide the two and add more hot sauce and chilly flakes for the adult version. You can probably also add Kale, chard or whatever other leafy greens you like.

Let me know if you try this recipe and what you think. I’d also love to know what you and your family are getting up to this Christmas and how you are celebrating.

Spinach Artichoke Dip

The best restaurant quality spinach artichoke dip you will ever try
Course: Appetizer
Keyword: artichoke, cheese, dip, party food, spinach
Servings: 4
Author: Cristina

Ingredients

  • 225 gram Spinach (1 frozen box, thawed and strained, chopped. Feel free to include other greens like Kale or Swiss Chard)
  • 1 Olive Oil (to fry the onions)
  • 115 gram Cream Cheese (room temp. makes mixing this easier)
  • 2 cup Mozzarella (grated)
  • 1 cup Parmesan (grated)
  • 1/4 cup Onion (finely diced)
  • 1 Shallot diced
  • 1/3 cup Mayonnaise
  • 1/3 cup Sour Cream
  • 1/3 cup Heavy Cream
  • 1 tsp Hot Sauce
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 3/4 tsp Minced garlic
  • 3/4 tsp Ground Pepper
  • 1 tsp Crushed Chili Flakes
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Onion powder
  • 1 tsp Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup Canned artichokes (finely diced and drained)

Instructions

  • Thaw the frozen spinach over a sieve placed over a bowl. When ready to assemble the dip, squeeze any remaining liquid out of the spinach and chop. You can also add in kale or swiss chard if you like, just make sure to steam it lightly and remove any excess liquid.
  • Open your can of artichokes and strain them really well, then chop into pieces.
  • Fry up the onions in oil until it is translucent. Don’t overcook or brown your onions. You can add a tbsp of water in the pan to get it translucent faster without browning and so that you don’t need to add more oil. When I chop my onion in a processor the pieces are so small that they brown a lot quicker, so I add in the water.
  • In a large bowl, add lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, minced garlic and all of the seasonings.
  • To the same bowl, add and mix together: cream cheese, mayonnaise, cream, sour cream, mozerella and parmesan. Add in the well strained and chopped artichokes, chopped, onions, and chopped spinach. Mix well so all ingredients are incorporated.
  • Place the mixture into an oven and microwave safe serving dishe or two and heat in the microwave for 1 minute. Remove and stir, then heat again another minute. As a last additional step I like to put the dish into oven to broil. This gets the cheese really bubbling and creates a golden top.
  • Serve with tortilla chips, pita bread or baguette slices.

An early lululemon product drop just in time for Christmas

by Cristina December 18, 2020
written by Cristina

Wow, a third upload! It’s an early lululemon product drop just in time for Christmas deliveries. This upload is better than Tuesday’s or Thursday’s in my opinion.

BTW, we Just finished watching Noelle on Disney plus with the kids and I think it’s the best Christmas movie to have come out since Elf. Have you watched it? Definitely recommend.

Did you read my last minute gift ideas post? I wore my favourite lululemon outfit from Fall/Winter 2020.

Hot sellers from this upload are the Stronger As One Bra (that will sell out); the new heathered sport grey Ready To Rulu Jogger Crop; new Blue BOREALIS Align Tank; the Scuba Oversized 1/2 Zip in Rosemary Green and Trench (I think Trench will be the first sell-out) and the Scuba High-Rise Jogger Fleece. So many goodies. I ordered the LA Puff Sleeve in both colors, and am debating the Ready To Rulus which I live in. The cost per wear on the joggers make it an entirely justifiable purchase. If I could I’d also get the Scuba Oversized and the Scuba Joggers. I’ll need to add those to my Christmas Wish list.

UM, Hello LA Puff Sleeve Crop Sweatshirt, come home with me! I ordered the navy and then decided to order the highlighter orange too. I love this shape.

awesome last minute gifts that will arrive in time for Christmas

written by Cristina

I am thrilled to be partnering up with lululemon to bring you this last minute gifts post. lululemon has kindly sponsored this post and gifted me with my outfit shown below. I am part of the sweat collective and earn a commission on purchases made using my links. All content is conceptualized, selected and created by me, and as always, all opinions are my own. A huge thank you to my readers who have made partnerships like this one possible for me.

Alert! This is your public service announcement. Not to freak you guys out or anything but….There are just 8 days left till Christmas!! Four days left to order online the perfect gift for delivery by Christmas. Are you guys ready? I think I got everything done today with these last few gifts. I also remembered to pick up my traditional fancy (aka slightly better than usual) gift wrapping wine. Now I can relax with a fun holiday movie, and just wrap and sip.

Don’t forget to take advantage of lululemon’s order online, pick-up in store, or curb side pick-up service. Avoid the malls if you can. Despite there being an unusual amount of free parking space,  there are lineups to enter most stores.

Days Till Christmas

  • Wunder Puff Jacket
  • Scuba Hoodie Plush
  • Unlimit High-Rise Tight 25"
  • Love Tee V

This outfit is my new favourite. I am so obsessed with this color combination. The soft and cozy textures are luxuriously comfortable for some hectic last minute Christmas gift shopping. French Press, Heathered Chambray, Heathered Plumful and Dark Navy = ❤️

There are a few sizes left of the Wunder Puff Jacket in Heathered Plumful right now so snatch it up if you are considering it as a gift. The Scuba Hoodie Plush in Chambray also just restocked today and is now dwindling in sizes. I also noticed the Unlimit High-Rise in French Press restocked. The upload may have been very tiny this week (so far) but we definitely are getting restocks of hot sellers. If you missed out on someones top wish-list item, make sure to keep checking for restocks.

The lululemon upload is here! Unfortunately this weeks upload (Tuesday and Thursday) where small on brand new items but big on restocks. If you missed out on a wish-list item, now would be a good time to check and see if it’s back in stock.

I’m really liking this LA Contour Slim Fit Long Sleeve. I wish it wasn’t cropped but I think I’m going to give it a chance and see how it fits. I love the corset like detailing with that under bust seam. If it fits well, with the seam hitting in the right place, I would love this in a short sleeve and a tank as well.

Last week the Retreat Yourself Pullover uploaded sneakily in the French Press. I ordered it and it arrived yesterday. It’s really cute! This is my first sweater from this retreat lineup of textured cottons. I regretted not getting the oatmeal coloured pullover from earlier in the year.

I’m also really liking the New Ambition Super High-Rise Tight. As soon as they upload in black they will be mine.

That’s it for now! If new items are uploaded later today I will add it in here and alert you guys. I also have a large post coming up later today/tomorrow so stay tuned!

My bougie AF Silk face mask

by Cristina December 14, 2020
written by Cristina

My teacher gifts this year will 100% be silk face masks.

I recently picked up this beautiful silk face mask that I’d been waffling about ordering. It’s on the pricey side and felt like such a splurge considering there are very good masks for $10. When you think of it though, this is something you wear every day, everywhere you go, and sometimes for hours at a time. If you are experiencing maskne, I definitely recommend splurging on a high quality silk face mask .

Slip Silk Face Mask: My Review

I recently picked up this beautiful silk face mask that I’d been waffling about ordering. It’s on the pricey side and felt like such a splurge considering there are very good masks for $10. When you think of it though, on a cost per wear basis its not too bad. Masks are something you wear every day, everywhere you go, and sometimes for hours at a time. If you are experiencing maskne, I definitely recommend splurging on a high quality silk face mask .

I have rosacea which for the most part had been fully under control, until this new mask life began. The trapped heat inside face masks aggravates my rosacea like nothing else. Luckily, the masking also helps cover the unsightly outbreaks so nobody has to see it. I know it’s there though, and it usually makes my skin hurt. Especially when fabrics rub against my already inflamed skin.

The lululemon face mask has been my preferred mask since it came out a few weeks ago. It’s a tie for me now between these two masks. I think this mask is really elegant. It’s perfect for your dressier outfits or when going for a sleeker more glammed up look. My lululemon mask is great for everyday wear, and being more active.

This silk mask is a triple layered mask. It has a double-sided layer of long fibre mulberry silk and an inner cotton lining. It also has a really sturdy nose wire piece, and a second replacement nose wire. I also like that it comes in a reusable plastic pouch that I can keep in my purse. Storing the mask with a cover will keep the purse lint/crumb/tic-tacs off of it.

It’s so soft and cushy against my face and although it’s too hard to tell right now if its actually going to help reduce maskne or rosacea, it is definitely not irritating on my skin. There is still some trapped heat on the inside just like my other mask, but more in line with the lululemon mask which I find cooler and more breathable. This may still be enough heat to trigger my rosacea, but the mask is so comfortable and soft that I don’t think the friction of fabric will further aggravate my skin the way some masks do.

Gift Guide 2020: Awesome Gift Ideas For Everyone On Your List

Gift Guide 2020

Here it is, finally! The Sweat Edit’s editors Holiday Gift Guide 2020 list. These are the awesome gift ideas I’ve dug up for everyone on my list that I always struggle to shop for.

You can check out my other gift guide here.

I’ve put so much thought into these items and I really wanted to provide you with a list of things I am actually buying as gifts this year. This is not just another fantasy gift guide.

There are several niche categories here, so if you have friends with calligraphy hobbies, are creative, or really into the woo-woo and you have no idea where to start with that…these are the items you are going to want to check out for them. There is no better gift than the really personalized, thoughtfully considered gift.

This list was inspired by the poor guy I heard asking for help at the local pen shop where I was buying some fountain pens as gifts. His girlfriend had asked for calligraphy items and he came in to get calligraphy pens and a notebook thinking it was a straightforward, simple enough purchase. Of course, it was anything but straight forward. The shop owner asked him ‘what kind of calligraphy does she do? There are thousands of different types.’ He no idea what to do and looked so defeated.

The Stationary Lover

fountain pens, calligraphy sets, cursive writing tools

Gift Guide 2020: Awesome Gift Ideas For Everyone On Your List
  • Pocket Fountain Pen
  • Notebooks
  • Pretty Inks
  • Practice Books
  • Fountain Pen For Your Desk

Hand-lettering and copperplate calligraphy are HUGE this year. Everything from creating hand-lettering on Procreate on the iPad, to disciplined and precise Spencerian and Copperplate calligraphy using nibs and dip pens with ink. Fountain pens are also always popular with collectors. They are a slightly more practical way to incorporate handwriting into everyday life.

One thing I’ve realized is that after a year of digital living and online learning, a lot of kids are really struggling with cursive writing skills (which were already lacking for most I’m sure). This is especially apparent in grades that require note taking by hand. Fountain pens are a way easier way to write quickly as you don’t have to use much pressure to lay ink down. Because of the nibs reservoirs, the ink just flows through with natural pressure. The pen nibs glide across the page really easily.

The Creatives

pretty paint palettes, sketchbooks, pencils

Gift Guide 2020: Awesome Gift Ideas For Everyone On Your List
  • Pretty paint set
  • Sketchbooks
  • Paint Brushes
  • Pastels

My daughter and I can both spend hours upon hours browsing the local art supply stores. We just love it. This is such a highly underrated place to Christmas shop and it’s such a treasure trove of ideas.

If you have someone on your list who is creative, you need to shop here. Wether they are into hand lettering; cartooning; journaling; water-colour painting; or just stationary,  this is the place to shop.

I think this pretty pearl metallic paint set is just perfect as a gift. The presentation is beautiful and it works equally well for a water color artist, a hand-letterer, or a scrapbooker.

These beautifully curated art supply stores have really struggled as a result of the pandemic and I would be crushed to see them go out of business. Sure, you can pick these items up off amazon or big box stores, but shop at these boutiques because the variety of product they cary and the expertise they provide is unmatched.

The Family Bubble

card games, board games, old classic games

gift guide 2020
  • Mah-Jong Set
  • Rainbow Playing Cards
  • Card Games
  • Strategy Games

There are many great games out now and they are such a great way to spend time with you family unplugged. I’m particularly fond of card type games like unstable unicorn where the game is different every time, and there is strategy and story telling built in. If you are bored of the usual monopoly or your kids don’t like those games, try something new!

These games will come in very handy this holiday for us since we are now on full lockdown again. Family gatherings are now banned and all festive events cancelled until January 8th. We are extremely sad that we can’t spend Christmas with family or do the holiday things we always do, but we are making the best of it and creating new traditions.

The Hibernator

cozy throw blanket, a book series, home fragrance sets

Gift Guide 2020: Awesome Gift Ideas For Everyone On Your List
  • Cozy Throw
  • Smart Diffuser
  • Juicy Book Series
  • Bougie Candles
Gift Guide 2020: Awesome Gift Ideas For Everyone On Your List

This one is me this year! Hello making my home the coziest little sanctuary. Nothing better than a snuggly blanket and a good book. I picked up this Philippa Gregory series the other day for myself, and am gifting another set for someone else I know who also loves her writing. We both read her books back during the Tudor series and haven’t read her in years. I’m excited about these two books.

The Intuitive

astrological planner, oracle cards, beautiful crystals

*side note. The little illustrated oracle cards on the bottom left here are drawn by a local artist who works as a graphic designer for lululemon. We’ve seen her art on many leggings and accessories, as well as store murals.

Tarot cards and oracle decks

I love tarot and oracle cards and have a few I’ve purchased over the years because I’ve loved the artist who created them. Check out the deck above created by a lululemon graphic designer! Tarot and Oracles are hugely popular right now and many graphic artists create decks as portfolio projects of their illustration. It’s really a great way to showcase an artists style. The traditional imagery is very evocative and inspiring and artists use the archetypal images as creative prompts which is why there is so much great art hiding in these decks. I display my favourites on my desk or my cork board.

Astrology planner and moon phase journals

Last year I picked up this really beautiful planner I saw in a local shop just because it caught my eye. It is PACKED full of astrology information. Most of which (99.9% of it) is right over my head. I can tell you I’m an Aries, but don’t ask me what a sun-sign is or moon rising… or whatever the jargon is. The Astrology section in magazines is a must read for me though. I have only a surface level of knowledge about astrological signs and I read it for entertainment purposes.

I didn’t use this planner to it’s fullest, I used it as just a planner, and occasionally made note of the full moons of course, when ‘the vibe’ got weird. This year I grabbed two for a couple of friends that are astrology nerds because I know they will fully appreciate the level of detail available in these planners. Maybe they will give me a proper heads up when the world turns upside down again.

Crystals

Crystals are really great objects for decorating your home. You really can’t beat nature’s beauty. I have several around my home on bookshelves and on my coffee table because they are interesting and unique and don’t have to be very expensive. My kids love going into rock-hound shops when we go on vacation anywhere and they always pick something small up as a keepsake. I’ve gotten into the habit of also looking for un tumbled raw crystals for displaying. I’m partial to raw clear quartz clusters, and smokey quartz. I hate those man made geodes dyed crazy colors.

Lululemon Holiday Uploads

by Cristina December 8, 2020
written by Cristina

The lululemon holiday uploads are here! Some pretty new items uploaded today. I ordered another pair of the Ready To Rulu Jogger Crops because I’ve been living in them. My favourite pair so far are the Graphite Grey which uploaded last week. Fully embracing that #greysweatpantlife.

These new embossed Wunder Under High Rise Tights in Cranberry Pink Foil are really beautiful. I will definitely consider them if they come in crop length. I love the brighter fun tights for cycling on my Peloton at home. Helps me get right into it when it’s super dark and dreary out at 4pm which is when I like to ride. Remember that Peloton wife commercial last year during the holidays? LOLZ. Who knew.

How ARE you guys this week? Everyone hanging in alright? How’s the holiday shopping going for you? I’d love to know what you guys are doing for gifting this year for your extended families if you are in a location not allowing extended family gatherings.

What new holiday celebrations are you incorporating this year to make it festive? I’ve been making a lot of cookies with the kids which typically I don’t like doing. I don’t love baking but I also don’t like having a lot of baked goods around to tempt me. This year though, that’s what’s keeping my kids happy and in the holiday spirit. Also, card games. I got a set of Unstable Unicorns and Exploding Kittens, and we’ll be doing a lot of game nights with the kids during the holidays. I’m tempted to get a cheap chess set and see if we can learn that too.

Hope you guys are all doing well. Don’t forget to join the Facebook group if you need a little virtual social hangout.

Just a little mini holiday upload today. Typically lululemon does two uploads per week during the month of December, with one of the uploads being a little sprinkling of new products. Sometimes we do get two full uploads, but usually it’s a small second upload. We got new prints in today, including these pretty Voltage Graphite Grey Black Wunder Train and Invigorate Tights.
