All about sugaring hair removal and sugar waxing

by Cristina

This is everything you need to know about brazilian sugar waxing

Bikini season is upon us, and many women are seeking hair removal alternatives that are less painful and less expensive than traditional waxing or shaving. You’ve probably heard people mention sugaring, or sugar waxing,  but you may not know what it is or how it works – and that’s where this guide comes in!

Sugaring hair removal involves the use of a sugar paste, which hardens quickly when applied to skin and can be easily removed with warm water.

Are you looking for an alternative to waxing? I was. My skin is extremely sensitive and doesn’t react well to traditional waxing. By all means you should definitely give sugaring a chance!

What is sugaring hair removal wax (also called sugar paste)

The wax is actually a caramelizad sugar ball (or paste) that uses caramelized sugar, water  and lemon as the main ingredients. It’s cooked to a specific temperature creating a soft moldable paste that you can form into a ball. Considered to be the most natural and organic method of hair removal,  it uses all-natural ingredients. This is great for people who want to remove hair from certain areas of their bodies but don’t want to use products made of potentially toxic synthetic chemicals. It’s also great for those of us with very sensitive skin.

What kind of results can I expect?

This hair removal is a gentle hair removal process that doesn’t use wax, so it’s kinder on your skin than the traditional waxing method. This paste removes hair from the follicle at its root to prevent regrowth, unlike shaving or other depilatory methods that only remove hair from the surface of the skin. Sugaring also helps exfoliate your skin gently, helping prevent ingrown hairs. It’s important to realize the reduction in waste from sugaring. If you shave or use a depilatory cream, obviously you may see short regrowth in day or two. With sugaring, most people experience smooth skin for three to six weeks after their treatment.

Regrowth timing depends on what body part has been treated. Bikini wax or brazilian, you can expect 5-6 weeks. Armpits take about 2 weeks to regrow. Surprisingly, regrowth will grow back softer and finer as well making each subsequent treatment easier and easier. In the long run, you are better off sugaring than shaving more frequently.

Who is a good candidate for sugaring hair removal?

So who is a good candidate for sugaring? Everyone! It’s safe on all skin types and colors because no heat is involved—which also means it’s great for sensitive areas like faces or bikinis lines. It’s especially great for those of us with sensitive skin who can’t use other methods.

Just remember, you can’t sugar wax, likewise any type of skin removal waxing if you have used retin-a products recently. To clarify, you should be two weeks from your last retin-a treatment.

What is the aftercare for sugar waxing?

1. The day of your sugaring appointment – Do nothing! make sure you’ve not exfoliated for a few days prior to your appointment.

2. Two days after your appointment – Exfoliate with a dry bod brush and follow up with moisturizing body oil.

3. Repeat every other day until your next appointment.
