Fit Review ~ Energy Bra

Energy Bra

Energy BraEnergy BraAlternate View

I broke down and purchased the Energy Bra in Black on Friday because on my last long run my Deep V Bra caused some rib pain. I think it was because my Deep V Bra has a thick band at the bottom and somehow it was riding between two ribs for most of my run which I didn’t notice until I got home when I realized my ribs were in a lot of pain, especially on inhalation. I tried out my Energy Bra yesterday on my 10 mile run and I’m quite happy with it. What I like most is that it’s luxtreme which I think is the nicest fabric of all for a sports bra, and I really like the back straps. The inner liner of the bra is coolmax which is a wicking jersey like material (same inner liner as the Hustle Jacket). I liked the coolmax but I think I was hoping it would be the same circle mesh liner that’s in the Free to Be bra. In the end I’ve decided I like the Coolmax liner just as much as the circle mesh since they both feel nice against my skin. The support is pretty good, I’m a 36C and don’t require heavy duty support but I found this bra quite compressive in a size 8. My Deep V bra I’m almost certain is a size 10 and is harder to take off when sweaty.

My negatives with this bra is that it does cause a little bit of back fat on the sides as the back of the band is quite narrow and sits low. I also had a little bit of armpit fat but because I’m using this for running only that is not a deal breaker for me, it just means that I wont be wearing this bra with something that would leave those areas exposed. Overall it’s a good bra with pretty straps for under a Cool Racerback Tank or for layering with other tanks that don’t offer a lot of support. I’ll be using this one for sure at the BMO Vancouver Marathon.

How It’s Going Week 8 & 9 ~ Half Marathon Training

by Cristina April 10, 2011
written by Cristina

These past two weeks of training have been a bit of a slack off hence my lack of updates. I’ve been doing my long runs and I’m finding I can knock off my 10 miles quite easily now but going out for my midweek 4 and 5 mile runs are a bit of a drag and I’ve neglected them. Last night I had a really excellent long run and branched out on my rout and decided to run to my parents house which is about 10 miles away and have my dad drive me back home. It was nice to get a change of scenery but also really fun to run the 10 miles out instead of running out 5 miles and then looping back for the remaining 5 miles. These next few weeks though I’m going to get back on track with my plan and do my mid week runs as well as my long runs and then do a short tapper at the end before my half.

My runners are now in dire need of replacement so I’ve picked out my birthday runners (New Balance 1080) but I don’t get to start using them until my birthday which is right before the race. Poor planning. Oh well, at least I’m getting the same pair I already have so I don’t need to get used to a different shoe and I don’t need to break them in. My long run two weeks ago was one of my worst runs in a long time. It took me 5 miles to warm up from shin splints which was the first time I’ve had them in all of my training. the next day I took my runners into the Running Den to be assessed and to try on a few different models and the salesperson told me my shoes were very worn in the centre and the soles were spreading out. I tried on the New Balance Minimus trail shoe and I absolutely love them but I wont be getting those until after my race. She suggested using the Minimus as a walking, everyday shoe at first and then if I have no problems with my feet I can slowly introduce them in my shorter runs. I really liked the look of the trail shoe but the salesperson recommended against those for non trail use as they rubber soles have carbon mixed into them to make them sticker and grippier which would cause them to wear out faster on non trail surfaces. I wish the road shoe wasn’t so ugly.

Last week I picked up a bunch of different energy chews to try out as well and I liked them all a lot better then I liked my Shot Blocks that I’d been using and a lot more then gels which make me gag. I really liked the flavour of the GU Chomps in Blueberry Pomegranate and found I got a pretty big jolt out of them. I used about 3 Chomps in my 10 mile run last night but last week I was requiring a chew per mile. I don’t feel so bad about that because Lance Armstrong did that in his New York Marathon and he’s an endurance athlete, so there.  The Honey Stinger brand is my top favourite, the chews are all natural  and are flavoured with honey and are much smaller and softer then any other chews I’ve tried so easier to  consume during my run and that is the winning factor. I really liked the cherry flavoured ones and I have a bag of orange blossom to try next. The jolt I got from them was only slightly less then the GU Chomps but I like that if the kids get into these they’re safe for them to consume and I’m not sure that the other energy chews I’ve tried are safe for children. The Honey Stinger waffle is an awesome pre-run snack. I plan on taking one with me to eat before my BMO Vancouver Half Marathon in 20 days, 21 hours and 13 minutes.   since I’m not used to early morning runs and a little bit worried about eating breakfast or not eating breakfast before my run but my plan is to have the waffle along with maybe a banana and a coffee on the drive over. The roads will close at 3am the night before so I think I’m going to get dropped off on the south end of the Cambie St. Bridge (where the Lulu Lab is!) and walk across. This is my first ever race so the logistics on how to get there and what happens before the race are a bit of a mystery to me.

Store Report ~ Modern Racer Tank, Cool Racerbacks

by Cristina April 8, 2011
written by Cristina

I was able to quickly make it out to the store to grab myself the Wren Modern Racer Tank and found a few details to share on the latest tanks. Nothing else was new in store today other then these items.

Cool Racerback Tank, Black Citron Tinted Canvas

I passed on this CRB today despite liking the print. The fabric content is 94% polyester and I really didn’t like the feel of it or the sheen. I briefly considered just getting it but I reconsidered because I just know I will never gravitate to this tank in my closet based on the feel of it.

Cool Racerback Tank, Pink Mist

Cool Racerback

Pink Mist CRB is a new Luon Light version (thinner then the other CRB’s). I really liked the color in person and the luon is Nylony which I like. It also had some slightly more obvious weave lines in it then you would see in some of the other CRB tanks. In the end I passed on it for now because the thinnes in such a pale color makes it quite sheer. I need to try this one on in a brighter fitting room to see exactly what it is I’m showing the world. Slight sheerness is ok when layering but I may consider sizing up in this one. I’m really hoping we see this color in the Moder Racer Tanks because I’d love to layer it with the Wren MRT but I probably wouldn’t layer a CRB with the Modern Tank.

Modern Racer Tank, Wren

Gorgeous in person. The Wren and Grapeseed colors feel thicker then the Iris one.

Pink Mist!

Cool Racerback Tank Pink Mist

Lulu Addict  just posted that the pink in this new Cool Racerback Tank is the same as in the new print Black Citron Tinted canvas. It’s called Pink Mist and it’s much lighter then Pig Pink. I’m a real sucker for soft pinks and really loved Pig Pink but this softer pink is even prettier. I love pairing pinks with colors like brown or navy so I have visions of wearing this with my Wren and Raw Blue Studio pants. I would die and go to heaven if we saw this in Silverescent.

New! In A Cinch Dress

by Cristina April 7, 2011

Super Cute! I’d love this in black or even in a subtle print. And it’s Vitasea which is super soft and drapes a bit better then the Pima Cotton. I didn’t like last years Modern Racer Dress because it clung to everything but I hold out hope that because this is Vitasea it will have a better fit.

This Weeks Product Images – Mind Over Matter Pullover and Crops

by Cristina April 6, 2011
written by Cristina

In this image you can see that the White Mind Over Matter Pullover is Ribbed Luxtreme, unlike the other colors available in the pullover (purple grape or black shown below). This makes me gravitate to the white one most of all since it has the added texture on it.

I’m really impressed by these crops. I like the amount of circle mesh they were able to add into the lower leg and the reflective striping in the ruffles is an added technical feature bonus. The only thing more they could have added to these crops was an extra deep thigh pocket. Higher rise luxtreme running crops ensure they wont slip down on you on your runs. Overall though I think Lululemon really hit it out of the ballpark with these ones and I can’t wait to get mine from Cali Lulu Buyers (from California if you hadn’t guessed) who want to make sure I get these before my upcoming BMO Vancouver Marathon happening in exactly 24 days, 16 hrs and 02 minutes and 17 seconds.
