How It’s Going Week 10 ~ Half Marathon Training

by Cristina April 17, 2011
written by Cristina

Last night I did my longest training run until my half marathon at the BMO Vancouver Marathon (13 days, 15 hours away). I decided to do a 12 miler even though I’ve been assured 10 miles is enough of a distance in training for a 13 mile race, but I really wanted to know how 12 miles felt (mile 11-12 was painful). Last weekend I ran to my parents house which was 10 miles on the dot and I was so proud when I got there only to be crushed by my dads cynicism in letting me know the race distance was 30% more then what I had just done. Thanks dad! 3 miles sounds doable, 30% more sounds like almost 50% more. He was honestly just trying to be helpful (I tell myself) but it made me wonder if those extra 3 miles would be a huge stretch. I’m reassured to know that although my upper thighs will be extremely tired and sore, I can still manage to keep myself moving until the end and maybe even be able to manage a last mile sprint. Also, all of my training runs have been very, very hilly throughout so I’m hoping that because my race has one hill i’ll actually be less tired and run at a faster pace. Do those of you that run races notice you run your races faster then your training runs?

I wore my Mind over Matter Crops, or MOM crops if you will, on last nights run and I think these are my favourite crops of all time. The fit is not as snug as my Dash crops which have the same higher rise so I had to tie the waist to keep them from sliding down. Not an issue at all once I tied them, they stayed perfectly in place and didn’t budge.  Mine are a size 8 but I think sizing down to a 6 may make them a bit sheer stretched over my bum. What I love the most in these crops is the short length and the amount of circle mesh on the lower leg. The area behind my knees and the backs of my upper calves seems to get very hot so the circle mesh was nice for keeping me cool.  The ruffles on the calf are placed perfectly to give you a very slimming effect. Seriously, my legs were looking gooooood in these crops yesterday. I’m no less a serious runner for appreciating the fashion forward details (of course fit and function are primary concerns) , it just helps when you need to wear your gear to and from your activity. I mentally motivated myself for my run yesterday by wearing my MOM crops around doing errands earlier in the day so it was nice to be wearing a cute pair of crops with feminine detailing instead of plain old frumpy run gear.

Last week I purchased the Run Energy SL (circa Spring 2010) off the Lululemon Exchange Page and if it arrives in time I will be wearing that to my Half. I really like the silverescent material (I had the I Just Wanna Run Tank in the same material) It’s super lightweight and feels like your not wearing anything at all. I missed out on this shirt last year since I wasn’t sure how I felt about the varsity writing for every day neighborhood runs.  Now that I’m running a race that will require as much motivation as I can find I think the slogan is perfect. The passion colored top will look great with my red medal around my neck 🙂 and will make it easier for my family to spot me coming across the finish line.

I’ll have a few more half marathon posts between now and May 1st so keep checking back. I have a product review coming soon for you and some updates on the training taper/fine tuning and race prep.

Define Jacket Tango Red

I don’t normally gravitate to the Define Jacket but something about it in red really appeals to me. It reminds me of a cute cropped red leather jacket that my sister has and I covet.

I was interested to see that there is a new lulu blog out in cyber world for men. It’s called  LululeMan and I’m so glad he’s started his blog because I have a few male readers and at times I forget to include the men’s gear unless something really catches my eye or there is a color in the men’s line that I covet for the women’s line. So now I can feel less bad about neglecting you dear lululeMAN readers and direct you to this mancentric lululemon blog.

Welcome to the blogosphere LululeMAN!!

Tango Red Cool Racerback Tank

Cool Racerback Tank

A reader from the US informed me today that she spotted this solid (non static) Tango Red Cool Racerback Tank in her product alert. I’m not a huge fan of the static Tango Red so I may pick up this CRB when it comes to my store. I’m not in need of more CRB tanks but a nice true red is a staple I think so if this doesn’t come in a Modern Racer Tank then I may snag this in the CRB. Although I do like the idea of wearing a red top for running so the technical tank may be the way to go. If you believe in color therapy then red is an energizing and powerful color. I wish this was out in time for my marathon but I’m already starting to narrow down my outfit. The red is a good choice for letting my family find me in the massive crowd for photo ops come race day. Oh well 🙁

Upload Friday!

by Cristina April 15, 2011
written by Cristina

The Lululemon website has now been uploaded with new black, white and grey items. I’m interested in these items but not in black, white or grey. The V neck Swiftly I would love in Tango Red, The Pure Focus I would love in Grapeseed (although the white is pretty too!) and the Sing, Floss, Travel Jacket I’m wanting in Surge Blue or Heathered Wren as mentioned in the product alerts.

**One thing I’ve noticed is if you do a search of old items you get directed back to the main page of the lululemon website. Boo!!! Dislike!!! We can no longer find the old images on the website only items that are in google images from other websites such as the blogs or resale sites.  As a resale buyer this really annoys me because we no longer have access to those product reviews and descriptions. UPSET!

What are you getting today?? Also, if you’ve checked out with a purchase, did it go smoothly for you??

I have this lululemon Bon Voyage Duffel Bag in Ivy from last year and I highly, highly recommend it if you are in need of a large gym/work/travel bag. I’ve used mine as a diaper bag on days were I’m out for the day on a road trip and need a lot of supplies or in the summer when we spend the day at the wading pool park. There are two pockets on either end for your water bottle (or juice) and a large laptop pocket. I’ve heard that this years version has some slight improvements but really, if they kept it exactly the same as last years it would still be perfect.

Description
  • A gym bag so awesome you can kiss other bags good-bye
  • Quilted puffy nylon fabric is lightweight
  • Hidden zip front pocket for sweaty clothes
  • Interior mesh shoe pockets
  • Removable, washable, waterproof wet/dry pouch
  • Separate back zippered pocket fits a 15 in/38 cm laptop
  • Adjustable, removable shoulder strap
  • Tested to hold 50 lbs/22kg
  • 20” x 8.5” x 13.5”

Travel Pooch

I passed on last years Travel Pooch despite it being in gorgeous colors mostly because of the strap. I didn’t like that last years version did not have an option to carry this as a purse. Other years there has been the option of carrying it as a purse or as a fanny pack and I really don’t see myself wearing this around my waist at all. I like the idea of a small purse to keep my cell phone, lipgloss, wallet and keys and keeping my diaper bag separate so I don’t have to dig around for my items amongst all of my supplies. If this years version has the option to extend the waist straps into shoulder strap length then I may take the plunge on the coal tinted

canvas print.

Vitasea is Back!

by Cristina April 13, 2011
written by Cristina

I was really interested to see that Lululemon hast started using their trademarked Vitasea (Seacell and Lycocell, a 100% wood pulp fibre mixed with seaweed) again in some of their products this spring. I noticed a difference in feel with both the Wren and Grapeseed Modern Racer tanks compared with my Snorkel and Iris ones but didn’t realize that they were Vitasea until a reader pointed it out to me today.

The Wren and Grapeseed which are made of Vitasea feel thicker and a bit heavier and have a bit better coverage then the other Modern Racers made of Pima Cotton. Vitasea was used last summer in some of the Lab items and I found that those items seemed to have a nicer drape due to the weight of the fabric and a silkier weave then some of the same items made of Pima Cotton (the Goddess Tank came in both Pima and Vitasea). I was glad to see Vitasea was used in the It’s a Cinch Dress this year because last years Modern Racer Dress which used Pima cotton was much less flattering and a little too sheer and clingy for a dress.  I’m also glad to see that the Pink Mist Modern Racer is also Vitasea because the Pima cotton would be too sheer in such a pale color. I have a white Modern from last year in Pima cotton and I wear it as a layer or to bed because on it’s own it’s a little too sheer for me.

I wonder if Vitasea is better at handling stains then Pima cotton is. I’ve noticed some of my Pimas from spring 2010 were disasters as far as retaining simple stains such as water and other clear liquids. I also wonder if we will be seeing more natural fibres again such as Beechlu (Lux scuba’s anyone? Maybe Dance Pulse Wraps??)

Vitasea®

lululemon’s Vitasea fabric is made with Seacell®, the yarn derived from seaweed! Blended with cotton and Lycra, the end result is an ultra soft, pre-shrunk fabric that retains its shape and stays soft after you wash it. This makes it the perfect choice for tank tops and t-shirts.
