Rumours: The Next Color

by Cristina September 13, 2010
written by Cristina

There is rumour of a new color making a reappearance which we last saw in 2009. It’s a very popular color for this season in many other stores as I’ve seen purples and greys and combinations of the two everywhere. ‘Daze’ is a grey color that appears in certain light to be a mauvy purple. I love this type of grey and can’t wait to see it. The last row of neutral colors in the 2009 pallet is gorgeous. I Wonder what other fall colors are coming up and what items will appear in Daze.

With the Track ‘N Field jackets recently marked down online ($109) and in many local stores ($99-$109) it’s the perfect time to help you decide which light jacket will round out your early fall collection. I picked up the Run: Track ‘N Field jacket initially from my local store when for the first time ever, my husband came in the store and picked something out for me. I’ve got the alarming/ombre stripe one and while it’s a little bit bright, I quite love it and the reflective features since I hope to use it for evening walks/hikes and maybe even the occasional run. Hubby likes it for casual wear, and if for once he’s encouraging my shopping addiction – how could I not buy it and wear it?!

I have to size up in the Run: Track ‘N Field jacket for a comfortable fit. I am usually a size 8 in Lulu jackets, but my regular size only just zipped up over my chest (which is one the larger side) and without any stretch in it, this kind of jacket really isn’t designed to be skin-tight in my opinion. You can see it’s quite loose in my regular size, but with the length of it, it looks pretty good. I’ve noticed that some people are concerned about the “poof” in the back where one of the mesh vents are, but I actually find it helps even out my shape since I have broader shoulders and a wider upper back and a pretty narrow lower back. So far, I’ve worn it a few times for dog walks as it’s started to get cool, and it did quite well when I got caught in a downpour. I will try running in it, since really, that was the intended purpose. I was a little bit confused about what it was designed for when local stores started marketing it as a To/From jacket on Facebook, but when I asked GEC, they said it was designed with running as the primary purpose.

The other jacket that I picked up recently is the Community Jacket. I ordered it online during an upload Thursday and took a shot in the dark with the size. Having seen some of the Facebook photos, I really wasn’t sure that I would like it when it arrived since it’s pretty short and billowy and didn’t seem like it would flatter everyone. Looking at the fit and the shortness of it, I also ordered a size up and got a 10, like my Track ‘N Field jacket. It turned out to be the perfect fit, and I was surprised to find I might like it even more than my Track ‘N Field jacket (though I LOVE both!!). It is a bit loose through the body and arms, but just enough to be flattering. With a larger chest I’m always worried about getting a “pregnancy look” as things that aren’t fitted tend to hang off my chest and make me look larger. I don’t think I have that problem with this one. I think this jacket looks great layered with a longer CRB and I’ve even worn it with a Stride under it. I think this is one jacket you really need to try to see if it will work for you. The Track ‘N Field should work for anyone with the longer length and slightly baggier look; but the shortness of this one may not be everyone’s cup of tea. I’m 5’9, about 140-145 lbs but do have a shorter torso so I think that’s why the length isn’t too bothersome to me.

Overall, I think either jacket is a good choice and now that they’re about the same price, you might not feel like you need to pass on the Community because of the pricetag !

New Colors Uploaded

Some new colors where uploaded in the Power Y’s yesterday and I really hope these are signs of new fall colors coming up because Fox is a top favourite of mine. I’m not a Power Y user so I didn’t bite but I was oh so tempted. Wouldn’t Fox and Groovy Mellon be lovely Cool Racerbacks to layer?

Run Inspire Pullover Inaugural Run Review

by Cristina September 12, 2010
written by Cristina

8km run in 17*c weather with a heavy drizzle.
Run Inspire Crops in Lolo purple size 8 & Run: Inspire Pullover size 8 Static Black

I finally got to wear my Run: Inspire Pullover today for a run and I have to say there are things I LOVE about this top and I don’t regret buying it at all, and things that really bother me with the design and that I wish were different.  According to Lululemon, this is a layering peace that you would wear over a tank and not a base layer. The cut of this top would indicate otherwise as it is form fitting but not snug when you stay true to size. I could wear a tank under this but my preference is not to have to because running luon is so soft and lovely on it’s own against your skin, and because I like this as a shirt top not a jacket.

My first issue was the contouring seams along the front/sides of the top and on the back are a stiff ribbon like fabric that although I like the look of, the tension between the luon and the ribbon detail causes it to bunch up a bit in waves. Also, the underside of this is a bit annoying against your skin. the seaming underneath is flat locked but still  slightly stiff. Not enough to cause me chafing but  just a minor annoyance that should not be there in a running top. The top stayed pulled down and didn’t ride up at all but the areas that have the contrasting bunched if that makes sense. The zipper that was previously discussed here was also a nuisance and I don’t understand why it was not sewn in like other running tops that Lululemon has made before. All of the other pullovers can be worn as a base layer or a mid layer so why was this consideration to the zipper not made for this top My biggest issue with the top however was the contrast area on the upper arms (again, I liked the look of it) felt like a very loose bra strap that keeps falling down over your shoulders. I was constantly adjusting it.

Things I love about this top are that the static heathered running luon feels amazingly silky and cottony. The ribbed luon at both hips makes the top a great fit and moves really comfortably with you as your run. I love the design of the high collar and how nicely it contours the neck and keeps the wind and rain out. I love the reflection on the zippers and the hugeness and placement of the back pocket are great. Cuffins are super useful too. The Inspire looks like a really great, very athletic top. I loved the way my outfit looked for running and it was totally perfect for the heavy rain. I didn’t need to wear a jacket over this at all as running luon (and luxtreme) behaves beautifully in the rain. When I got home I did not feel at all soaked from rain or sweat even though I’m a heavy sweater.

My grade for this top is a B+. I will keep using this because I loved the look and the fabric but I’ll have to wear my Swiftly Tank underneath it to have a fidgety free run.

Personal Best Tank

by Cristina September 12, 2010

Is the bust detailing really that bad? I quite like this tank in Lolo. The only thing I’m not that crazy about is the twisted back detail but other than that the more I see this tank the more I like it. I like that it’s form fitting but still loose around the middle.

And The Verdict Is…

by Cristina September 11, 2010
written by Cristina

Yesterday I ordered two Inspire Pullovers, one in Lolo and one in Black, with the intention of keeping just one of them. I also ordered a Senorita Pink Ear Warmer. In the meantime I had gone in to my local store and tried on the only Inspire Pullover they had which was the Static Wave Stripe. Of all the colors I’ve tried on since receiving my order I liked black one the best on me. I love lolo purple in everything else, it’s flattering to my complexion and coloring (brown hair, green eyes), but in the Inspire pullover it looked (as reported by others 🙁 boo! ) too busy and it washed me out. The good thing is that the Black will look really nice with whatever accessories I want to wear with it (Senorita Pink Ear Warmers) and whatever top I put on under it will pop nicely. As far as the fit goes the 8 was the right size for me. Although the Static Wave Stripe was not too flattering on me in an 8 with all of the clingyness and stripes but the black hid everything nicely and actually felt a little roomier around the middle for some reason. I can wear the black one with jeans but I would not have worn the static wave stripe one with jeans. I checked out the seam issues that My Superficial Endeavors reported on this morning (the pocket is not sewn in on both the top and bottom as in prior running pullover designs) and both pullovers that I ordered have the same issue, though I did not find it itchy or scratchy on my back when I tried them on. So now I have to decide if this will become an issue for me when I use it for running. I do really like it a lot so I’m very hesitant to take it back. The Senorita Ear Warmers I love, love love!

On a positive note, all of this talk of other running pullovers on facebook yesterday got me really curious about the Spirit Pullover (Tech Fleece) and the Hills Pullover (Running Luon) which I never got to see in stores when it was released (probably because I was pregnant) and low and behold a pretty blue used only one time Spirit Pullover was listed on ebay today in just my size. I was able to snatch that baby up and I look forward to trying it out. It has a hood on it which I’m always dubious about for running. I hate hoods that flop around when I run and they disturb my peripheral vision when I use them, but a reader yesterday mentioned that it’s such a snug fitting hood that this is not at all an issue. She was adamant that this is the best running pullover ever made. I promise if I’m even the slightest bit unhappy with this top I will resell it to you as I know there are eager little hands out there that would be “on this like a dirty shirt” ;p.

ps…my gramar is horrible in this post. I will edit this shortly but right now I’m rocking, swaying and shushing a teething cranky baby.

Personal Best Singlet

Here is a picture of how the back looks. I decided yesterday after seeing this tank in store that I really like the way it looks but I have reservations about the twisted back detail. Definitely want to try it on though and see where the bust seaming hits on me. I think it’s a detail that can work for some and not others. Unfortunately probably not for larger busted women yet again.

And a Run: Inspire Picture in Static Wave Stripe.

Lululemon Second Quarter Press Release

by Cristina September 10, 2010
written by Cristina

Looks like Lulu is doing quite well judging by this Press Release. I guess all of those summer markdowns didn’t have much effect on the bottom line. My guess is that it will continue to do well over this next quarter as I think that Lulu does way better in there Fall/Winter product offerings than they do in Spring/Summer. Scuba’s anybody? What are your armchair investor speculations?

and an article from The Vancouver Sun.

Heathered Coal/Black Felt Pen Stripe Print

by Cristina September 10, 2010
written by Cristina

My long sleeve Manifesto V neck which I decided I love.

I don’t like it in the Heathered Ash version at all, it’s way too busy in the lighter color. It’s too bad they didn’t come out with a short sleeve version of the Coal/Black print because it’s a really nice neutral and for those of you that don’t like the contrast seam in the back, it’s still there but quite hidden in the pattern.
