Running Gear: Double Jogging Stroller

by Cristina June 27, 2011
written by Cristina

Well after a few months of a lulu shopping hiatus I was able to splurge on a Chariot Cougar jogging/cycling stroller. I think this is a really great investment since it can be used year round and is totally enclosed, can be adapted to a bicycle, jogging or hiking and it has a high resale value. I’m sort of wondering why I didn’t do this earlier after spending an entire 14 months of depending on others to get out for my runs. I did “need” and enjoy my me time away from the kids on my runs but at least now I can use this for my weekday training runs and get my alone runs in on the weekends.

I’ve been really lazy this past month with my running but I think I was feeling a little burnt out at struggling to fit in training runs in for my half marathon last month. It wasn’t so much the amount of running I was doing but it was such a chore to find ways to squeeze my runs in based on everyone else’s schedules. It was certainly doable, it was just a big chore and there were times when I felt really burdened by my training. I’m really looking forward to the new challenge of learning to run while pushing a heavy stroller and getting some upper body work in as well. This should be just the spark I need to re ignite my running.  I think this is as good a challenge as training for a half marathon and may possibly make me a faster runner.

Do any of you have running tips and techniques for me running with a double jogging stroller?

Surge Wee Stripe CRB

by Cristina June 25, 2011
written by Cristina

I’m so excited about this new Surge Wee Stripe Cool Racerback Tank (now in some US stores) since my top favourite CRB’s are my Power Purple Wee Stripe and my Coal Strata Stripe. Most of the striped CRB’s seem to have a soft cottony feel due to the lack of polyester and possibly the heathering effect. I really hope this tank is the same softness as the other ones I have because I love the color. This one is also reversible so that the other side has the logo and the contrast stitching. I’m glad there hasn’t been a price increase for the extra logo placement because I wear most of my CRB’s with contrast stitching inside out and right side in and am not bothered by the lack of a logo on the reverse side.

Have you seen this Cool Racerback Tank in your store yet?

Where are the Push Ur Limits Tanks?

by Cristina June 25, 2011
written by Cristina

Feeling a little uninspired lately with the Lulu tank offerings (and wondering where all the Push Ur Limit Tanks are) I went to the Ivivva Athletica album to see what the little ones are getting these days. Low and behold they have a lovely new tank design that seems to be a mash-up between the Push Ur Limit Tank and the Inner Strength Tank. I believe the Ivivva sizes work for women size 4-6 and under but I suspect these tanks don’t have the built in support that the women’s designs have. I’d love to see this come to the Lululemon side

Energize Tank (Ivivva Athletica) $35 (love the price!)

Upload Thursday

by Cristina June 23, 2011
written by Cristina

Not a very big upload today but there were still some good items like the Run Take Flight Bike Short which I’d love to try on and the Long Sleeve Swiftly Tech Tee in Dewberry and Surge. The US got the Run Take Flight Vests which I haven’t tried on yet but I did see it in store and it’s quite lovely compared to some of the past run vests.

Things that weren’t uploaded today (bummer for a lot of you) are the Sing, Floss, Travel Jacket in Wren (some stores marked down to $79) and Heathered Navy. Also, the Manifesto LS in both colors.

Did you buy anything today??

SE ‘Snowy Owl’ Scuba Hoodie Details

by Cristina June 23, 2011
written by Cristina

Yesterday I had mentioned I would try to get some details on this lovely Special Edition Scuba since the prices seem to be a bit of a mystery. I confirmed with my store that this one is priced at $128 due to the fact that it’s one of the ‘pillow scubas’. I also speculated that the inner pouch looked like it may be a velour faux fur lining but actually it’s a black on grey pattern that looks sort of like black seabed print. I think I was dreaming of a faux fur lined hoodie for winter since last winter Lulu only made one that was fur lined within the hood. It was the Scuba Vest if I remember correctly. I’d love to see a plain scuba with this soft fuzzy inner liner throughout. This Black Snowy Owl Ghost (superb copy writing on the name!) scuba is quite gorgeous in person and striking in it’s contrast over warm white. I wouldn’t normally be drawn to a white hoodie but this one has a lot of interest in it with the contrast stitching and inner liner.

You can tell from this printer what the print is like inside the hood.

This scuba hoodie is gorgeous, especially with the inner velour fur lined pocket/hood. I’m not buying a scuba hoodie this year but I wonder if the entire inside of the hoodie is lined in this material? I’ve heard rumours that this SE Hoodie is priced at the old SE price of $128. Let me know if you see this in your store and what the price tags say.

Monday Product Drop – Canada

by Cristina June 20, 2011
written by Cristina

Lucky for me there is not really anything tempting me today in this weeks product drop so my lulu hiatus will last another week. The Plum $cuba Hoodie is quite lovely and I felt like I missed out on the one that came out back in December. This one is slightly different with a contrasted metal zipper while the December one was a lovely plum plastic zipper. I may have been tempted if the Scuba Hoodie price increase was not totally insultingly outrageous.

The Lulumum blog now has a mobile version for your convenient on the fly lulu updates. There is no need to enter a special URL, just bookmark the lulumum blog (http://lulumum.blogspot.com/) on your phone and your phone will automatically load the mobile site for you.

The only hangup with the new mobile version is that it doesn’t allow you to leave comments and is read only. The links should still work fine as well as all the other functions of the blog so it’s not a huge inconvenience but you’ll have to leave me your comments from your computer as your comments are always appreciated.

Rumour (now verified): Scuba Hoodies Increase in Price

by Cristina June 18, 2011
written by Cristina

Several readers have mentioned seeing price increases in their stores on the Scuba Hoodies jumping from $98 to $128. This is despite Christine Day addressing the issue of price increases in the last two earnings calls (most recent one being June 10th) where she said they would only be increasing prices on more specialty items with extra detailing and a focus towards more special edition items and that regular items will not be marked up to justify increasing production costs. She had also mentioned that commodities have gone down substantially which is why they weren’t feeling pressure to increase prices. I will verify this for you later today when I get a chance to get to a store and check the price tags for you.

One reader has asked her store about the price increase and was told that the Micro Stripe Scuba’s (previously released in December/January at $98) are now priced higher then the solids because of a more ‘expensive process’ to create the pattern and that the rising cost of cotton is behind the $30 increase. Solid Scuba’s are now priced at $108.  I wonder what true ‘Special Edition’ scuba’s will be marked up to when something as basic as a micro stripe pattern gets a $30 increase. I find it totally outrageous that previously produced hoodies are getting re stickered at the higher prices. What would something like the Pillow Scuba or the Vest Scuba be priced at with all of the extra seam detailing on it?

How do you feel about the $30 increase? Will you be buying Scuba Hoodies at these prices?

New! Run: Take Flight Vest

by Cristina June 18, 2011
written by Cristina

The new Run: Take flight vest with 360* of reflectivity. made with wind blocking Glyde and DWR treated. And this time the two front zippered pockets were not forgotten (like it was in the last run vest currently on markdown, The Run Record Breaker) so this vest is totally perfect as far as utility for running. I’d really like to try this one on when it comes out although I’m not in need of a new running vest since I got my ebay one for $35 (NWT!!) but I do like to check them out since they are just so handy for long runs. As soon as I find out the price and colors available for this I’ll make sure to post.
