White Dance Studio Crops

Dance Studio Crops White

I was unsure that I would like the White Dance Studio Crops but just this weekend I found myself  regretting not getting the Coal ones that were out last month and are now long gone so I decided to try these ones on today and was surprised at how much I liked white pants paired. I tried it on with my Iris Aura Jacket and later when I got home tried it on with my Wren and Snorkel Modern Racer Tanks and the combination looks really nice with both. I think I’ve decided to stick with them in a size 10. My other Dance Studio Crops and Pants are size 8 and in darker colors I prefer the 8 but I think since these are lined and a bit sheer I’m better off with a bit of room.

More Surge Blue

by Cristina April 11, 2011
written by Cristina

Surge Blue that I posted about yesterday is now in Canadian stores in CRB’s. I didn’t see this Cool Racerback Tank at Coquitlam today but it may have not been unpacked just yet. I’m kind of funny picky about teal blues. I hated Lagoon and passed on Teal (later regretted passing on Teal) but I love this Surge Blue. It seems to have much more blue then green unlike the other teals. Surge reminds me of Stitch and if this comes in Heathered Surge I will be purdy happy.

Here it is on different materials

Store Report ~ White Dance Studio Crops and More

Dance Studio Crops White/Lined

I got these today but I had to bring home both the 8 and 10 to decide. I’m really torn between the two sizes. The size 8 give me slight muffin top but is tighter in the rear and less see thru in the butt. The size 10 is looser in the waist so no muffin top but there’s a bit of excess fabric below the waist. The Butt is looser but then slightly see thru. Once I decide which one will be most comfortable i’ll tear the tags off since they’re perfect for the weather we’re having right now.  really loved how the white looked with my Iris Aura Jacket and think it will look really pretty with other colors such as Wren or Snorkel or the new color called Surge Blue. The crops are lined with what I think is coolmaxx, a thin tshirt jersey like material. It keeps it from being totally sheer but it’s still a bit see thru in certain areas like the front pockets and that didn’t change when I went up in size and the fit was looser.

In A Cinch Dress Black Seabed

I tried this dress on today in a size 8 and really, really loved it a lot.  The length was above the knee for me and the vitasea cotton material is really ideal for this type of dress to keep it from showing too much imperfections and from being too clingy. It offers a bit more weight then the Pima cotton does and a nicer drape. I think I would get this dress in a size 10 for me only because I have a pear shape and I want the bottom half to flow more away from my hips then the size 8 did but I think this dress is TTS in most cases. If your between sizes and heavy on the bottom try the size up.  There is some mesh detailing around the neck line and the vitasea is super soft and cool. I also saw a Lively Tee in the black Seabed print made out of Vitasea. Today I passed on this dress because I don’t have an immediate need for it but it is wishlisted for a later date. I also saw the scoopneck dress but didn’t bother to try it on. I know that dress is too short for me and not very flattering on fuller bottomed figures.

Mind Over Matter Crops Black Seabead Print/Black/Grapeseed

I adore these crops. They are amazing!! The luxtreme is slightly softer then my other luxtreme bottoms but not sheer, and they offer more compression then my Dash Crops. The length is a bit longer on my short legs but there still a nice crop length for me. The vast amount of Circle Mesh on the lower leg makes these really a great option for those of us that don’t like to wear shorts running. These are TTS but if your between two sizes in the luxtreme bottoms you can go down one size. I went with these in a size 8. I also saw a Swiftly Tech SS in Tango Red but I passed on it for now. I don’t love a crewneck on short sleeved tops for me.

Sing Floss Travel Crops Heathered Blurred Grey, Heathered Wren and Black

These crops I didn’t try on but they’re cotton french terry and the same length as the Dance Studio Crops. They have nice front pockets and seam detailing above the knee that almost makes it look like an articulated knee detail but it’s not quite that. on the outside of the upper thigh where the seam detail ends there is a silverish button detail, right where the models hands are. These are also slightly less casual then the Lulu Crops.

New Print! Manifesto Message In A Bottle

by Cristina April 10, 2011
written by Cristina

I’ve heard from several educators that we will be seeing a new long sleeve manifesto print. I have a feeling it’s this Manifesto Message In a Bottle print that just came in a product alert. I like this manifesto so much more then the Snellen Eye Test print we saw in early 2010 in the Manifesto V Neck. I thought I really hated Manifesto Prints in general but it turns out I like it in the more whimsical text. Also, the blue shown below (darker) is called Surge and the light text is toothpaste. I’ve been told by a birdie we will be seeing more items in those colors as well. Can’t wait! I’m really liking that darker blue.

or ‘snellen eye test’ print as I liked to call it.

I hated this print and hated the burnout that ripped in every single top before it left the store.

Fit Review ~ Energy Bra

by Cristina April 10, 2011

Energy Bra

Energy BraEnergy BraAlternate View

I broke down and purchased the Energy Bra in Black on Friday because on my last long run my Deep V Bra caused some rib pain. I think it was because my Deep V Bra has a thick band at the bottom and somehow it was riding between two ribs for most of my run which I didn’t notice until I got home when I realized my ribs were in a lot of pain, especially on inhalation. I tried out my Energy Bra yesterday on my 10 mile run and I’m quite happy with it. What I like most is that it’s luxtreme which I think is the nicest fabric of all for a sports bra, and I really like the back straps. The inner liner of the bra is coolmax which is a wicking jersey like material (same inner liner as the Hustle Jacket). I liked the coolmax but I think I was hoping it would be the same circle mesh liner that’s in the Free to Be bra. In the end I’ve decided I like the Coolmax liner just as much as the circle mesh since they both feel nice against my skin. The support is pretty good, I’m a 36C and don’t require heavy duty support but I found this bra quite compressive in a size 8. My Deep V bra I’m almost certain is a size 10 and is harder to take off when sweaty.

My negatives with this bra is that it does cause a little bit of back fat on the sides as the back of the band is quite narrow and sits low. I also had a little bit of armpit fat but because I’m using this for running only that is not a deal breaker for me, it just means that I wont be wearing this bra with something that would leave those areas exposed. Overall it’s a good bra with pretty straps for under a Cool Racerback Tank or for layering with other tanks that don’t offer a lot of support. I’ll be using this one for sure at the BMO Vancouver Marathon.

How It’s Going Week 8 & 9 ~ Half Marathon Training

by Cristina April 10, 2011
written by Cristina

These past two weeks of training have been a bit of a slack off hence my lack of updates. I’ve been doing my long runs and I’m finding I can knock off my 10 miles quite easily now but going out for my midweek 4 and 5 mile runs are a bit of a drag and I’ve neglected them. Last night I had a really excellent long run and branched out on my rout and decided to run to my parents house which is about 10 miles away and have my dad drive me back home. It was nice to get a change of scenery but also really fun to run the 10 miles out instead of running out 5 miles and then looping back for the remaining 5 miles. These next few weeks though I’m going to get back on track with my plan and do my mid week runs as well as my long runs and then do a short tapper at the end before my half.

My runners are now in dire need of replacement so I’ve picked out my birthday runners (New Balance 1080) but I don’t get to start using them until my birthday which is right before the race. Poor planning. Oh well, at least I’m getting the same pair I already have so I don’t need to get used to a different shoe and I don’t need to break them in. My long run two weeks ago was one of my worst runs in a long time. It took me 5 miles to warm up from shin splints which was the first time I’ve had them in all of my training. the next day I took my runners into the Running Den to be assessed and to try on a few different models and the salesperson told me my shoes were very worn in the centre and the soles were spreading out. I tried on the New Balance Minimus trail shoe and I absolutely love them but I wont be getting those until after my race. She suggested using the Minimus as a walking, everyday shoe at first and then if I have no problems with my feet I can slowly introduce them in my shorter runs. I really liked the look of the trail shoe but the salesperson recommended against those for non trail use as they rubber soles have carbon mixed into them to make them sticker and grippier which would cause them to wear out faster on non trail surfaces. I wish the road shoe wasn’t so ugly.

Last week I picked up a bunch of different energy chews to try out as well and I liked them all a lot better then I liked my Shot Blocks that I’d been using and a lot more then gels which make me gag. I really liked the flavour of the GU Chomps in Blueberry Pomegranate and found I got a pretty big jolt out of them. I used about 3 Chomps in my 10 mile run last night but last week I was requiring a chew per mile. I don’t feel so bad about that because Lance Armstrong did that in his New York Marathon and he’s an endurance athlete, so there.  The Honey Stinger brand is my top favourite, the chews are all natural  and are flavoured with honey and are much smaller and softer then any other chews I’ve tried so easier to  consume during my run and that is the winning factor. I really liked the cherry flavoured ones and I have a bag of orange blossom to try next. The jolt I got from them was only slightly less then the GU Chomps but I like that if the kids get into these they’re safe for them to consume and I’m not sure that the other energy chews I’ve tried are safe for children. The Honey Stinger waffle is an awesome pre-run snack. I plan on taking one with me to eat before my BMO Vancouver Half Marathon in 20 days, 21 hours and 13 minutes.   since I’m not used to early morning runs and a little bit worried about eating breakfast or not eating breakfast before my run but my plan is to have the waffle along with maybe a banana and a coffee on the drive over. The roads will close at 3am the night before so I think I’m going to get dropped off on the south end of the Cambie St. Bridge (where the Lulu Lab is!) and walk across. This is my first ever race so the logistics on how to get there and what happens before the race are a bit of a mystery to me.
