My 2011 Running Intention

by Cristina January 9, 2011

**I wrote this 5 7 days ago and it’s taken me this long to post!

I will run the BMO Half Marathon in May 2011

I’ve been really procrastinating about putting this in writing on my blog and potentially being held accountable but I’m sharing anyways because this goal has me pretty excited, and I think being excited about it means I have to do it.

I’ve decided to start a training plan in February for a half marathon. The BMO Half Marathon on May 1st to be exact. I’m so nervous about it because although I consider myself a runner, I am not a racer. Currently I can easily do 7-8km  (4-5mi) so I think that means I can stretch myself with training into 13.1 miles without injuring myself or quitting half way. My goal is simply to do the training consistently and methodically just how I did the learn to run training program that got me to 8km and then to run the BMO half marathon. 8km seemed daunting to me back in April when I started seriously running after the birth of my daughter and yet here I am. I think I’m not just afraid of the distance but also because it’s my first race and it’s something completely unknown to me. Also, I don’t always have control over when I get to go out for runs so I’m a bit worried about getting 4 runs in a week and keeping up with the training plan.

The past year I’ve been very consistent with my running with the exception of December when I took the month off to have surgery. Really I chose December as the time to have minor surgery because I was already starting to feel unmotivated (check out this Runners World article) so I took advantage of my lack of motivation to regroup, rest and plan where I wanted to go with my running. It’s so hard to stay motivated when you’re not building anymore and stretching your abilities and it’s dark and gloomy out. There are only so many months you can go with doing the same distances, speed and hills without getting bored. Since Christmas I’ve been running again and trying to regain my base which quickly deteriorated over the holidays and I’m feeling so invigorated (and sore). I’ve also started taking vitamin D which I really should have been doing all along to combat stress and to deal with the dark Wetcoast weather that made me feel like a zombie.

I’ll keep you all posted with my training and how it’s going. I’m currently looking at 3 different training plans (Running Room, Hal Higdon, Runners World) which I’ll start sometime between next week and February 1st, depending on which one I choose. Really, I’m just looking to complete the distance and not be the last person across the finish line since this is my first race so I think I’ll go with the most conservative plan. If you racers out there have any words of wisdom to share with me about training or racing I’d love to hear it. In the meantime, I’ve picked up this book ‘Run Like A Mother‘ to give me inspiration along the way so I don’t cop out and take the path of least resistance of just staying home when I feel overwhelmed with ma-thatic excuses.

Ikat Cool Racerback Tank and Resolution Jacket

Ikat Print Cool Racer Tank. LOVE IT! I’m so excited about this one I think I want this Black with purple accent one and also the colorfull one on the inside of the Aruba Retro Groove Gym Bag. I hope they make a tank in that version of the print.

Resolution Jacket
$148The Resolution Jacket. Lulu Addict has a picture of this jacket in Black. I think I prefer it in white but this jacket is too nondescript to really interest me. I don’t love the tortoise shell silhouette

Spotted: Ikat Define

by Cristina January 7, 2011

Today I’m feeling mysteriously enchanted by the Pique Define Jacket but I’m being strong as this seems to be an irrational interest probably caused by Lulu ADD. A reader has mentioned that she spotted in the Kelowna store this morning a Black Define Jacket with Itak print (Blk/Purp/Whi). I’m having trouble picturing it but I’m sure it must look loverly.

Eeeek! In Love With Ikat Print

by Cristina January 6, 2011

I am officially in love with Itak Print. This may be Black over Concord Grape Itak Print. It almost looks like a leopard print but not so dated and a bit more tribal looking.  Very nice indeed! I’m excited about seeing the various colored Itak prints in tanks.

Quilted Grooves with Itak Print and new Purple Colors + Pique.  Heathered Purple Crush and Heathered Concord Grape perhaps? I like that the quilting is not symmetrical squares but diagonal lines and quilting.

Some Sneaky Uploads

by Cristina January 6, 2011

I just came back from my run to find these gorgeous Groove Pants *Organic Multi State Of Mind Print/Static Grey. Gorgeous but I need to mull over whether or not I really, really need these considering I have a Candlelight Tank Multi State of Mind Print. Dear Lulu, please reserve these in a size 8 for me while I decide.

Upload Thursday

I’m surprised we didn’t see the newest Hustle Jackets uploaded today or the new bags. I’m a little bit disappointed that I didn’t see anything I liked such as the Itak Print Tanks but it’s for the best because I really didn’t want to buy anything today anyways. Reader Vicki speculated that we may see some new Dance Studio Pants hopefully in new colors such as Raw Blue because she got a product notification listing Black Dance Studio Pants Unlined which means there part of the Spring line. I may have pulled the trigger today on Pique Still Pants or Relaxed Fit Pants, I’m sad that we haven’t seen that yet and I’m losing hope on the dream.

What did you buy today?

Modern Racer Tank. I love the Modern Racer Tank, I have White, Black and Chirp which I used when I was pregnant and they’ve held up superbly. I still get use of the larger sizes but I think if I were to get one now I’d go down one size to a 6 or possibly stick with the 8 for a loose in the tummy fit. I think in the picture below she stayed TTS. I’m passing on these for another color run and hopefully we see ones with print.

Still Pant Black/Sailor Stripe Print. These are quite cute, I like the vertical sailor stripe at the waist. But since all my tops cover the waist and I have lots of black luon pants already I can pass on these. I think if your going with the Sailor Stripe waist you should complete the look with the Stills over the Relaxed Fit Pants since the Stills have the more flared leg, true to sailor style.

Groove Pant *Organic I almost want these except for the fact that my shirt would always cover the print which is what I love most. I’d like some Organic Grooves in my future but since I have them in Pique I can pass.

Scuba Hoodie Casis Micro Stripe. I like this one but not the white zipper on it.

New Tank! Sort of.

Run: Speed Up Tank

RUN: Speed Up TankRUN: Speed Up TankAlternate View

Description
  • Let speed reign in this medium support, performance tank
  • 4-way stretch luxtreme™ has inherent wicking & high LYCRA® content for maximum support
  • Body mapped mesh panels keep you cool while you heat up
  • Anti-sitnk circle mesh liner with pockets for removable cups
  • Chafe-resistant – flat seams

This tank is identical to my Light Up Tank (which seems to have been renamed Light Up Cycling Tank) that I got in the summer. I’ve listed mine for sale because the size 12 got too big on me but I otherwise really liked the tank for running. There were a few minor details that bothered me about the tank such as the contrasting vertical lines down both busts and the really thick ribbon of reflective strip on the straps. The tank is nice and loose fitting around the tummy which I really liked, especially after just having had a c-section. I’m liking the Speed Up Tank because it’s taken care of both those issues and it’s in a color that I love. I’m not sure that I’ll be getting this one though because I seem to go for just two tanks when I run in the Spring/Summer. Either my Cool Racerbacks or my I Just Wanna Run Tank and I don’t gravitate towards my luxtreme tops.

Lululemon on Modern Family

by Cristina January 6, 2011
written by Cristina

I don’t usually spot Lululemon on TV since I think I’m a bit desensitized to spotting lululemon living in Vancouver but I’ve seen it on Being Erica, Cougar Town and tonight I caught it on one of my favourite shows Modern Family probably because she was wearing my favourite color. Sofia Vergara who plays Gloria Pritchett was wearing the Define Jacket (beautifully!) in Wish Blue and Black Wunder Under Crops. It seems like every show that features Lululemon always uses the Define Jacket and Wunder Under Crops with a Scoop Neck Tank. I guess that’s what Lululemon marketing picks out to distribute for publicity since it’s easily recognizable and pretty streamlined.

Upload Thursday Eve

by Cristina January 6, 2011

I’m thinking the newest Hustle Jackets will be uploaded tomorrow along with the Modern Racer Tanks (Dip Dye) and the Retro Groove Gym Bag. What I’m hoping for would be the Itak Print tanks that we haven’t seen yet, preferably in a Cool Racerback Tank. The more I see the print the more I’m liking it, especially the Aruba/Purple Crush/Concord Grape (I think those are the correct colors) version and I think I can make them work with my wardrobe, especially in something as low commitment as a tank. If those pop up tomorrow I’ll be happy because they would fit within my prints only restriction and it’s really fun and energetic.  What I’m hoping to see of Christmas return pop backs is the Heathered Pig Pink Scuba that I decided I wanted just when they sold out.

I also just got a product notice with these hot shorts in a new print. Although I don’t like Lagoon, I’m intrigued by this print and hope to see it in something like a Live Simply Tee or a Modern Racerback. I have enough basic colors that I love and am happy to just move on to prints.

What are you planning on getting tomorrow or at least hoping to see?
