Fit Review: Nike Power Epic Lux

by Cristina

I’m seriously impressed with the Nike items I stumbled upon this week and have so many reviews I’m working on. This post is specific to the run tights I tried on which is the Nike Power Epic Lux Run Tight. I first grabbed the printed Nike Power Epic Lux Run Tight at the top of this post thinking I would just try them on. The print isn’t really one I would gravitate to but I wanted something neutral I could try with all the different tops. This print is the one I ended up bringing home though because I found it very slimming and flattering. Something about the movement of the triangles around the leg, and the lighter colors strategically  placed. When you look closely at the print it’s actually muted ink blue, brownish grey, charcoal, white and varying tones of ice blue. In all of the three colors I tried on I found the lower leg seam detailing and contrasting especially flattering, as well as the upper but double seam and butt arch. These are all size L and they fit equivalent to other brands size 10, yet these are slightly more compressive and flattering. The material somehow disappears all my lumpy bits, even in the harsh lighting of this fitting room which would normally highlight every lump and bump.  I love the nice mid rise, wide waistband as well.

These tights come with all the bells and whistles run tights should come with; a sweat proof zippered gel pocket in the back with two open gel pockets around the top of the waist, flat seams, mesh ventilation, and a waist cinch. They are opaque, soft and silky and very cool feeling. The material is a nylon spandex blend which I’ve always found cooler than polyester blends. I’m going to be keeping an eye on the Nike Power Epic Lux Run Tights and I’ll be getting more colors and prints as they catch my eye. For now I purchased these printed ones but I also really love the Dark Raisin ones. The only reason I didn’t bite the bullet on the raisin ones is that I’ve purchased a few Black Grape tights already. The purples at Nike now, including the coordinating shoes, are incredible.

I really like the patterned ones. I can’t believe I’m saying I like something by Nike. I associate them with cheap-o shelf bras and fat guys. Maybe it was Holman holding them back the whole time! Ok, that wasn’t nice, but Lulu is really suffering when Nike makes more feminine, functional clothes. I may have to bite the bullet, shelve my stereotypes, and buy …. Nike?!

?
Definitely you should try stuff on. I am picky and a Lulu snob and I really loved the pieces I tried on. The details on these run tights really struck me. One thing I haven’t mentioned is that I also looked at Nike stuff at Sport Check (like a Dick’s Sporting Goods) and I think there is another tier of Nike items for those stores vs. the run specific Nike stuff at Nike Town stores.

I’m sure that’s a big factor. There are an awful lot of $15 t-shirts out there that say Nike. They may be knockoffs or they may be discounted, but if you’re selling poor quality merchandise at bargain basement prices, your brand is going to suffer. (Don’t they study Gucci in retail MBA school?)

The other thing is that I still feel like they don’t take women seriously as athletes. They have, I see, finally branched into making something other than their classic squash-the-boobies style shelf bras, but it took them some real competition to do so. They could have made better bras on their own. After all, they were one of the first athletic clothing makers. Why didn’t they *create* non-smash-sytle support? Because they don’t know women’s bodies and they just couldn’t care less about women.

But perhaps that’s ancient history now. It’s been more than a decade since I’ve even considered Nike. Maybe they’ve changed. I know some people who comment here say they make some really nice higher end running tights. Maybe I should be more open minded.

The triangle print looks great on you. And anything that’s slimming is a definite plus. I used to buy a lot of Nike gear, then for awhile I lost interest in the designs and offerings, found Lululemon, became a LLL snob, tried to buy some Addidas stuff that’s good; but I never went back to Nike. I suppose I have to now. Nike has definitely upped their game. There is definitely a lower tier of Nike items at the big chain sporting stores.

Thanks for confirming that. I asked the SA at the store today when I was buying the tee (from the first post) and he said that it could be just that the other stores have reduced inventory while the Nike store has run specific items, but I could have sworn all the run tights at Sport Check weren’t as nice as the ones at the Nike store. The material is just nicer and it’s finished off with more details.
I have some Adidas items I’ve been wanting to try – they seem to have upped their game as well, in their new stuff and their originals street wear items. Tree foil is making a huge comeback.

I think the sales associates are told not to mention higher/lower tiered items. There is also a lower tier in the US at Nike Outlet stores. It’s the reason I don’t shop at the outlet stores for any of the brands because they make items for the outlets only. I only shop outlets if I know for a fact that they are overstock of in store items, like LLL. I’ve purchased a couple of run crops from Addidas that are great. The best thing about Nike and Addidas, when things go on sale it’s very affordable, and they have good return policies. I just wish Addidas shoe return policy was like Nike and Brooks. Nike (60 day trial period) and Brooks (90 day trial period) allow you to wear and work out in the shoes. If you don’t like the fit, you can still return it. I think that’s a good policy. I doubt there are many people who return after wearing shoes for a couple of workouts. Usually, if I use them and they didn’t create a problem the first time, I keep them.

BTW, Addidas has a new run bra very similar to the Enlight bra but made with a clasp and no crisscross straps. I didn’t have time to try it on but it seemed really nice and pricing was better.

If you join Road Runner Sports VIP ($1.99 online for the first year, $24.99 (I think) auto renewal after that) then you get 90 days to run in a shoe and you can return if they don’t work. Any shoe. Any brand. It automatically gives you 10% off every item and free shipping. Several times a year you get 25% off (except certain shoe brands who won’t participate – Nike, Brooks, Asics and a few others). If you go through a lot of shoes then you easily recoup your $24.99 membership fee within a few months with the 10% off (like I do). Something to look into. This would be for the U.S.

I haven’t liked Nike’s cheaper leggings, but I bought a pair of Power Epic Lux capris last fall, and I love them. I find them to be comparable to LLL luxtreme, and I haven’t had any issues with pilling or seams coming undone. I only wish Nike would make their Epic Lux leggings with thigh pockets, because I like to run with my phone. (I also love Athleta’s powervita material, and I can’t wait for them to come out with more prints.) Thanks for the fit reviews and expanding your blog posts, LLM!

Decided to give the Nike capris a try. I wore them a lot prior to 2010 but haven’t bought much since then.

I think Nike has various lines and some are really nice and some are less so.

I ran in my Nike epic lux capris and love them! I wish they had the thigh pockets-I jammed my phone into the back zipper pocket.

Yay! So glad you love them!! I wonder if they have other styles that do have thigh pockets.

Can you tell us which tanks you are wearing in the pictures? Thanks!

Absolutely. That was posted in my first Nike review post but here is the link. The tank is currently on sale on the Nike US website – http://rstyle.me/n/cnn8x6bhjk7 this is the short sleeve one http://rstyle.me/n/cnn8y9bhjk7. I love both!

Here is the link to the first post which featured the tanks. https://thesweatedit.com/

I really like Nike. I started buying Nike in the couple of years after my Lulu love started to wane. I feel like their clothes are cut for athletes, so I can find sports bras and tops that aren’t too tight on my lats/traps/arms. I know I’m in the minority being a pretty muscular woman, but I’m often bugged that athletic companies don’t design for muscles! I feel like some of the Nike gear is a great fit for that reason.

I actually found that athletic fit detail to be true with this tank. I really love that it comes up a bit higher in the back where the straps are, over my lats, and it’s not tight fitting in the armpit/lat area. I’m finding I’m having more and more issues with tanks being too low and tight in that area. This tank is still very pretty and feminine without being low cut in the chest, or the back.
