Fit Review: Definitely Raining Jacket

by Cristina

I got to pop in to my store today and try on the new Definitely Raining Jacket (and the Scuba Hoodie III coming up in another post) and I am torn on wether I’m going to get one. The size 10, my TTS is perfect fit from the waist up but too snug across the hips. This is a problem they have each year on the Right As Rain Jacket. They seem to have gone away from the older rain jacket a-line fit and gone with a more narrow and straight fit. This years jacket is updated in that it is now water proof instead of water resistant. I assumed they would have made the design slightly more a-line but unfortunately it’s the same problematic fit for the curvy that the Right As Rain Jacket was. One thing I really liked on this jacket though is the material is softer and less stiff. With water proof vs water resistant you have to be aware that the jacket will also be much warmer and trap body heat.

I liked this Gator Green color and may end up getting it if I don’t love the Espresso as much in person. I don’t love the busy butterfly liner with color blocked alarming at the bottom. You really don’t see all that when the jacket is on though, only in the hood do you see a peak of the butterfly print.

If you are between sizes, go with your upper size. Especially if you want to layer a bulky sweater or hoodie underneath. If you are narrow hipped you are probably fine to go with your TTS.

Size up, size 12

The size 12 feels really big in the chest and arms, and the arms are quite long but I think if I go ahead and order this tomorrow in the Espresso color I will order the 12. I hate that my TTS is so snug across the hips.

Sizing up also means I have much more layering room. As you can see it’s pretty loose fitting in upper back and arms.

I think the size up looks nicer in profile though and it has a nicer shape.

Ugh! So snug across the hips. It just looks bad.

Fine in the back though across the bum.

Looks a little too narrow in profile.

Thanks for the fit review. I like the size 12 on you. I tend to like jackets a little bigger though to give me the option for layering a sweater underneath. Plus it is more comfy for me lol.

Thanks so much for the review! I like the 12 best on you, it looks very good! I bought the Right As Rain last year and although the size 4 fit, and it fit pretty good but snug with a Scuba Hoodie underneath in a 4, I chose to go with the size 6, which I thought looked better both without the thicker layers underneath and with the thick Scuba layered under. Like you, I prefer the look and fit of the A-line Right As Rain Jacket. I really like that Gator Green with the Butterfly lining though…. If I do decide to order one it will be in size up to a 6 like I did last year, especially if it's fitting snugger through the bum and hips this year! Thanks again Lulumum!

I agree the 12 looks better on you. I usually wear a 6 in tops/jackets, but now I want to try it in-store in case I need an 8. I need a rain jacket and I'm loving this color, but I'm hesitant on the price tag.

Wow, that is a good looking jacket on you in size 12! The gator green is really sharp too.

Wow I am loving that gator green. And I agree with everyone else – I think the 12 is the right choice because it gives you room to layer. I do wonder what that espresso looks like in person though – I always love browns in theory, but they can come off muddy and it seems tough to find the right shade.

I think the 12 also. It looks really nice on you! I'm in the same boat… a 4 fits me through the upper body and I like the length better but it's too tight on the hips so I will get a 6.

Definitely a 12 for me. It's unanimous. You guys are convincing me to get the gator though. Maybe I should 'reserve' the Gator and see what I think of the Espresso one.

I like the 12 on you and I think I may order the same. I'm really regretting not sizing up in my Fo Drizzle. I was between 8-10 and went with the 8. It's just too small. If it's released again next spring I'll buy a bigger one and sell mine. I'm wider at the bottom so I'll order a 12 to try. I think it would be ok with the waist cinched.

I'm in the minority, I don't like this jacket. As a curvy person, I would not get this jacket. I have gorgeous rain jackets that highlight my figure for 1/2 the cost. And I don't see how you can run in it. I don't run but isn't it too long to run in? The color is great, I actually like the inside but the sleeves are way way to long and I think its just an eh jacket for 200 bucks.

Just curious why is it that the Scuba hoodie lll, made mostly from the cheaper produced nylon, is more expensive than the Scuba ll that is mostly made of cotton?
